Alliance of American Football

Restrictions on defensive formations:

(1) no more than five players may rush on passing plays;

(2) any player who aligns on the line of scrimmage either prior to or at the snap is designated as one of the five players regardless of whether he rushes;

(3) no defensive player may rush from a position more than two yards outside the widest offensive lineman and more than five yards from the line of scrimmage (they’ll call it the “defensive pressure box”);

(4) a player is deemed eligible to rush if he has both feet inside the box at the snap; (5) no more than four players may rush from the same side of the ball;

(6) adjacent linebackers may not rush from the same side of the ball; and

(7) two or more linebackers aligned between the offensive guards may not rush.

So, basically, up to five players can rush the passer and each of those five players must be aligned within two yards of the widest offensive lineman and five yards of the line of scrimmage. This means that there will be no corner blitzes. There will be no delayed blitzes from linebackers and safeties. There will be no double-A gap blitzes.

👁‍🗨 These restrictions are supposed to save QBs..the lifeline of any team, but holy geez, talk about borderline confusion for the refs.

    Missed week 1 payroll...that’s all-time bad.  Didn’t even start the season with operating capital for one week.

    It's really saying something when Arizona Coyotes fans are saying "Can you believe what they are doing to give away these tickets?"

Nelson, former Bomber, throws a pick. Big Nelson blows it. :(

Good to see Mike Riley on the sidelines. One of the nice guys in a cutthroat sport. The older he gets the more he looks like his father Bud.

He survived Lincoln, Nebraska. Lucky it wasn't following their heydays but he still had a rough go.

That pass was too flat. He has to put it up & let his receiver adjust to it. He may have thrown a second too early.

Mike has some success after the CFL but nothing like with the Bombers.

I consider his time at Oregon State a huge success. He dragged that program to relevance. He competed against the Oregon Nike Ducks.

If they really, really, tried, I don't think they could make those ref uniforms worse. It doesn't matter but, good lord, those are a horrible mess.

Yes, true. I may have understated that

What kind of attendance was there? Pr did they announce it?

Thought the refs were wearing flak jackets

Does anyone know what happened to Mark Chapman?  I don't see him on the Stallions roster.

He is busy with the Winnipeg Jets.

I'd think 18,000. The Alamodome holds 65,000.

Probably their high water mark for year

They said, post game, 30,000. I guess most were at the rum hut.

The quarterbacking is terrible  As long as they play weak qbs this league will never work.

Truly terrible.  They might want to force teams to blitz now since their QBs can’t hit any windows in coverage.  In the highlights all the passing plays they showed were tremendous catches by the receivers.

So I guess we can stop worrying about the AAFL stealing all our talent...?

The minimum salary they have will hurt us trying to sign young players.

I think it will be balanced by all the players 'not' going to the NFL from the AAF...

Birmingham. San Antonio. Memphis.  hmmm.

👁‍🗨It looks like the NFL network isn’t panning the crowd for some reason. Either it’s a fixed camera and it’s out of their scope or..they don’t want you to see the crowd.

👁‍🗨I’m not saying there’s not many fans at the Salt Lake - Arizona Alliance game, but the announcer mentions them by their names.

👁‍🗨Those announcers are pretty dull. Time to leave this game.

It will hurt a bit but aside from this season (when they literally had to fill the entire league with new players) the number of players entering the AAF and sticking there will be relatively low compared with how many players NFL teams cut in training camp each year.   When you think of it how many QB's does the CFL take off the available market each season?   Maybe 5 qb's who come up here and stick on the roster?  CFL teams either pass on entirely or cut kinds of talent and the AAF will be no different.  The cfl famously passed on Kurt Warner for example. Except for a select few players who actually make one of these pro leagues there won't be much of a decrease in the available talent. For example, if you're you've identified a player who you'd like to sign in November he might want to give the AAF a try.  But if he fails to make the roster that same player will most certainly be interested in the CFL come February or March. There are certain qualities that separate a talented player from a guy who actually makes it in the CFL and I don't think those same qualities will necessarily translate to them having an impact in the AAF.  To me it's really a crap shoot.  You bring a bunch of talent to CFL camp and its difficult to predict which players will stick and which will not.  I don't expect that the level of training camp talent brought in will be largely affected by the AAF.
