Lets see if we can keep this thread a little more civil.

I found this interview very interesting.  A lot of soft balls thrown at Trump, he explained his back pedalling on his more extreme issues as a lot of his claims as opening bids for negotiation purposes.  Which .. whatever .. I still think that those are insincere claims he used to get elected.

He does now come across way more presidential then he did prior to the election.  A lot of his noise, yelling, and rhetoric has been scaled back.

Apparently there is new evidence being unearthed almost every day, so the Grand Jury has been paused until the new evidence can be assessed and presented. The prosecutors want to make sure that the evidence is overwhelming, not just to the jurors, but also to the public.

Because we know Trump will say things that will further implicate him in the crimes that he's being accused of? The crazies, aka the GOP, are already riled up.

They are free from control by Congress. They are responsible to the voters of their district.

He's safer in Texas. The governor would slow and delay any extradition. Would Desantis? Probably, just to appear like he's owning libs but I doubt he would take it to the end.

DeSantis does an about face on Ukraine, I guess someone straightened him out. He has more important problems as his poll numbers are tanking and he is just an unlikeable person. Hood winking the people of Florida wont work across the United States, even Disney is screwing with him.

Whoever listens to DeSantis, for about 5 minutes......would know that he has the personality of a sleeping gator.  He is actually pretty mush mouth......unless he is pumping endless cultural wars with "woke" people - - those folks who actually believe in freedom of education, critical thinking, dignity, respect, and rule of law.

 

 

WI Supreme Court hopeful spoke at event with pastor who says killing abortion doctors is 'justifiable homicide'

In Wisconsin, far-right social conservative Dan Kelly is competing with liberal Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Janet Protasiewicz for a seat on the state's supreme court. Kelly is vehemently anti-abortion, and Protasiewicz has been slamming him as a supporter of an anti-abortion law in Wisconsin that goes back to 1849.

Now, Protasiewicz is calling Kelly out for making a virtual appearance at a Tuesday, March 21 event with the Rev. Matthew Trewhella, an anti-abortion extremist and far-right Christian nationalist who has described the murder of abortion providers as "justifiable homicide." In 1990, Trewhella founded a Milwaukee-based group called Missionaries to the Unborn, and he has a long history of promoting violence.

Back in 1994, Trewhella said, "I don't condemn people who use force to try to protect babies, because they are human beings. And if someone uses force to try to protect those babies, it would be as if someone used force against Dr. Mengele, from Adolf Hitler's era. If someone used force against him, would I condemn the person for stopping Mengele from all the atrocities he did? No, I wouldn't condemn that person."

“We demand rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty!” exclaims a disgruntled philosopher in Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

The philosophers had banded together to protest the advancement of computer science, which they believed was imposing entirely too much clarity on the existential mysteries that gave them job security.
The Idaho GOP and a coalition of antichoice groups in the state are taking a similar tack regarding the state’s murky and punitive abortion law.

This session, two Republican state legislators introduced a bill that would clarify key concepts in the state’s felony abortion ban. These include defining when an abortion is necessary to save the life of the pregnant person, and confirming once and for all that it’s not a felony to treat ectopic and nonviable pregnancies and to remove fetuses that have died.

It would also stop doctors who perform life-saving abortions from automatically being dragged before a judge to plead medical necessity as an affirmative defense.

Whatever happens with the felony abortion ban, Idaho doctors risk devastating lawsuits for treating one of the most common and dangerous gynecological emergencies: ectopic pregnancy.

Ectopic pregnancies are fertilized eggs that implant outside the uterus. These rogue ova will never become babies and they can kill the patient if they’re allowed to swell like a tumor on a speedrun.

It’s all about the uncertainty. A doctor doesn’t know if she’s going to get sued by a vengeful ex for treating an ectopic pregnancy, but it could happen. Uncertainty can be even more paralyzing than a clear-cut but draconian rule.

If I were in Congress I would bring an “Eliminating Abortions” bill that would aim to protect the unborn from abortion. To do this I would mandate that all males at the age of twelve must undergo a mandatory vasectomy to avoid accidental pregnancies. Of course since these procedures are reversible, any male could choose to reverse it if they wanted to start a family with their partner, married or common-law. Any male who reversed it was then bound to raise the child for a minimum of two years before putting the child up for adoption, and pay all costs associated with the adoption process. They could also be liable civilly and criminally if they were involved in an ”unwanted” pregnancy because they reversed their vasectomy under fraudulent circumstances, or never got one. As for the 0.2% whose procedures fail through no fault of their own, well that is one tenth the rate of ectopic pregnancies or one fifth the rate of total pregnancies that come as a result of rape, and no one seems too worried about those exceptions, so like a Republican senator once said about a rape victim “if you can’t stop it, you might as well sit back and enjoy it”. Let’s see how fast the religious right change their tune on abortion once the onus is on men to be responsible for the child.
