US Politics

Lets see if we can keep this thread a little more civil.

I found this interview very interesting.  A lot of soft balls thrown at Trump, he explained his back pedalling on his more extreme issues as a lot of his claims as opening bids for negotiation purposes.  Which .. whatever .. I still think that those are insincere claims he used to get elected.

He does now come across way more presidential then he did prior to the election.  A lot of his noise, yelling, and rhetoric has been scaled back.

Do respect this one though:

Lesley Stahl: Are you gonna take the salary, the president’s salary?

Donald Trump: Well, I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is no. I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. But it’s a -- I don’t even know what it is.

Donald Trump: Do you know what the salary is?

Lesley Stahl: $400,000 you’re giving up.

Donald Trump: No, I’m not gonna take the salary. I’m not taking it.

If anyone thinks Katie Porter is weak, they haven't been paying attention

What power does Katie have in the Democratic party?

she isn't weak, but her boss Nancy Pelosi is. According to Nancy, Americans can't have single payer health care, it's just too hard, far too expensive. But increasing the Pentagon budget, for Nancy, is neither of those.

I think the Dems are distancing themselves from universal health care so as to limit its use as a weapon of Trump in 2020.  Too easy for him to call them all socialists or say they're the Bernie party.  But I think should they win, you'll see them move pretty quickly to a much better health care system.  Maybe not like Canada, but a lot better than they have.

You might be right, it's beyond me, but I know that a majority of Americans want it, and a large majority of Democrats want it.

But they are fed a pile of lies about universal health care.

Pretty funny that  Zontar doesn't understand your point.... lol.

I prefer "ole dumb-ass".

Trump's issues are tax cuts for billionaires, undoing anything Obama managed to do, removing any environmental laws he can, putting up tariffs, withdrawing from international treaties, buddying up to Saudi, building some kind of wall, and getting extreme right wing judges appointed. That's it.

Oh yeah, cashing in on his position any way he can. "Job one"

along with soaking up adulation from morons whom he shafts every chance he gets, and being covered on TV twenty four hours a day.

also, sideline leisure pursuit..... grabbing women by the *****. I have no doubt he's boinking hookers since he became President.

Without a doubt, he's the stupidest  president in history. Nobody else is in his league.

.................and speaking of breaking the law, how about Steve Mnuchin who is blocking the Dems from getting Trumps tax returns, supposedly only some one from the DOJ can arrest him and that has no chance of happening with Trumps new found pet as AG.

Good article about Assange /Trump....

Trump Jr. did not respond to these messages either, but WikiLeaks was undeterred. “Hi Don. Hope you’re doing well!” WikiLeaks wrote on December 16 to Trump Jr., who was by then the son of the president-elect. “In relation to Mr. Assange: Obama/Clinton placed pressure on Sweden, UK and Australia (his home country) to illicitly go after Mr. Assange. It would be real easy and helpful for your dad to suggest that Australia appoint Assange ambassador to [Washington,] DC.”

WikiLeaks even imagined how Trump might put it: “‘That’s a real smart tough guy and the most famous australian [sic] you have!’ or something similar,” WikiLeaks wrote. “They won’t do it but it will send the right signals to Australia, UK + Sweden to start following the law and stop bending it to ingratiate themselves with the Clintons.” (

Such a heroic guy, Assange. /snark.

You think Don Jr. is featured in the Mueller report, probably will be redacted as AG Barr third party redaction snow job

A national poll released Monday showed Bernie Sanders leading the 2020 Democratic presidential field.

The new Emerson survey marks the first time the Vermont senator has come out ahead of former Vice President Joe Biden in a major survey.

Emerson's poll put Sanders in first place with 29 percent support, Biden in second with 24 percent, and South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg in third with nine percent.

Trump voters wouldn't vote for Jesus if he was a Democrat.

Forget about them and take care of your own people.

Rep. Ilhan Omar on Sunday issued a call to confront the rise of white nationalism in the United States, noting she has seen an increase in death threats since President Donald Trump tweeted an out-of-context clip of her recent remarks on the bigotry Muslim Americans faced after 9/11.

"We can no longer ignore that they are being encouraged by the occupant of the highest office in the land."
—Rep. Ilhan Omar

"Since the president's tweet Friday evening, I have experienced an increase in direct threats on my life—many directly referencing or replying to the president's video," the Democrat from Minnesota said in a statement Sunday night.

"The president is inciting violence against a sitting congresswoman—and an entire group of Americans based on their religion," Warren tweeted Friday evening. "It's disgusting. It's shameful. And any elected leader who refuses to condemn it shares responsibility for it."

I know that whenever I say ignorant and hateful things about sensitive topics involving the mass murder of thousands that it is hate speech when I am accurately quoted within context of what I said. Worse still if someone tweets video of me saying these comments to a crowd.

Hillary Clinton loyalists fed the FBI’s upper echelon an assortment of anti-Donald Trump criminal accusations during the 2016 campaign and his presidency, according to a string of interview transcripts released in recent weeks.

James A. Baker, former FBI general counsel who participated on the receiving end, testified that the situation was “horrible” and “highly unusual.”

At least 10 of Mrs. Clinton’s supporters directly or via middlemen told the bureau tales about Russia-Trump conspiracies. It appears to be an unprecedented effort by a presidential campaign and the party in power to count on the FBI to knock out the other party’s candidate and president.

The transcripts create the picture of an FBI not always following expected norms as it activated an unofficial conveyor belt to make sure the allegations reached the counterintelligence division. It opened an investigation into the Trump campaign on July 31, 2016. In October, it began wiretapping at least one Republican while dispatching possibly multiple undercover sources to spy.

Like everything, Trump knows more about fighting cathedral fires, than anyone else.

For a guy that has nothing to hide Trump is sure acting like a guy trying to hide something, in other news the great laundering bank has now been subpoenaed.

It would be nice if the Democrats cared as much about Omar's anti-semitic comments, and the violence that she may be inciting. That would make them look at least somewhat less hypocritical here.

She's not anti semitic, she is critical of Israeli conduct. What's wrong with that?

for instance, Israel just "annexed" Golan Heights, which is part of Syria, are building thousands of homes on Palestinian land, and are now proposing annexing that land. Same as Putin "annexing"  Crimea.

This is what she's critical of:

Quote

But now, a group of 43 senators — 29 Republicans and 14 Democrats — wants to implement a law that would make it a felony for Americans to support the international boycott against Israel, which was launched in protest of that country’s decades-old occupation of Palestine. The two primary sponsors of the bill are Democrat Ben Cardin of Maryland and Republican Rob Portman of Ohio. Perhaps the most shocking aspect is the punishment: Anyone guilty of violating the prohibitions will face a minimum civil penalty of $250,000 and a maximum criminal penalty of $1 million and 20 years in prison.

I agree with her. This proposed law is wrong. Its embarrassing for Jews. And it gives ammunition to the real antisemites. Jews get special treatment. Jews control Congress.

For what it's worth, I'm Jewish.

There's more than enough real, vile, anti semitism in this world, no need to make up phoney anti semitism for political gain. That just makes it worse.

We will have to agree to disagree. I find her attacks on Jewish people to be in bad taste and hate inspired. That's why I find it hypocritical of the Dems for crying about Trump's tweet, yet doing nothing about potential violence being incited by Omar.

This is laughable. She's attacked the policy of a state, not "Jewish people". Nice try at the faux outrage and distraction.
