US Politics

Lets see if we can keep this thread a little more civil.

I found this interview very interesting.  A lot of soft balls thrown at Trump, he explained his back pedalling on his more extreme issues as a lot of his claims as opening bids for negotiation purposes.  Which .. whatever .. I still think that those are insincere claims he used to get elected.

He does now come across way more presidential then he did prior to the election.  A lot of his noise, yelling, and rhetoric has been scaled back.

Do respect this one though:

Quote

Lesley Stahl: Are you gonna take the salary, the president’s salary?

Donald Trump: Well, I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is no. I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. But it’s a -- I don’t even know what it is.

Donald Trump: Do you know what the salary is?

Lesley Stahl: $400,000 you’re giving up.

Donald Trump: No, I’m not gonna take the salary. I’m not taking it.

which is kind of hypocritical when you think about she says something racist and loses her career, he acts like a racist sexist ass and gets elected president

The President of the United States excusing racism.  What a world.

SPYGATE!

BIGGER THAN WATERGATE!! MORE DEEP STATE CONSPIRACY!!

Catchy stuff, alright..... so I took a closer look at this "spy in question - Stefan A. Halper.   Turns out that Mr. Halper is a lifelong registered Republican, who worked for the Nixon administration.....and the Ford administration......and the Reagan administration.  He also had a role in George H.W. Bush’s campaign.

In fact, in all this time, it seems that the only sinister thing Mr. Halper has ever been accused of .....was spying on President Jimmy Carter’s 1980 campaign for Reagan!!

But of course around the web, Trumpalcoholics are bellowing about this latest proof - that all Federal law enforcement and justice entities, are totally corrupt and are filled with Soros-funded, Deep State swamp criminals.  With Trump as the victim.

Uranium One, Obama's phone tapping, "unmasking", the Nunes Memo, etc, etc.....and now Mueller is somehow "meddling" with the mid-term elections!

Even with the BS meter totally redlining, by now.......it simply does not matter.  Because In a couple of weeks, Trump will unveil some new "outrage" for his base to gorge on.  Evidence? Proof?  Who needs that? As Steven Miller asserts "The President is not to be questioned."

Well, at least by non-critical thinkers, anyways.

With so many enemies that are actually Republicans maybe trump should have run as a Democrat.

Trump pardoning a guy convicted of the same thing Cohen might be....think thats a message?

Reminder, White House has no problem with roseanne’s Racist remarks.

Indefensible by both Roseanne and Bee.  Disgusting.

Well one is a vile insult.  The other is a racist slur.  Both wrong, but the outrage from the right today over Samantha Bee is pretty eye roll inducing.  One is way worse.

Far more importantly than the usual Kardashian-TMZ talk that usually goes on in here, is the news that the US has imposed tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum.  This is going to have an absolutely massive impact on the US-Canada relationship.

Racism is not worse than sexism, sorry.  Both filth.

A racist slur is worse than an insult.  The C word is not specifically sexist and Ive heard guys called the C word plenty of times.

Regardless, the "left" are being pretty hard on Bee.  The Right?  Well, not so much on Roseanne...  So even if both words cancel each other out (they dont), only one political side in this thinks both incidents were wrong.

Calling a woman a c*nt is a sexist insult.  The end.  There is no debate to be had here.  Stop defending it.

Oh here we go lol

There is a debate because I say there is.  Thats point one.  Secondly, you dont have to keep repeating yourself or trying to make this a defense of your boy by trying to make it about me.

Thirdly, the point is, one is an insult.  The other is a racist slur.  Thats a fact.

Fourthly, how about Trump and the White House's condemnation of Roseanne? lol

How is a woman calling another woman a name sexist?

There are two people in this thread.  One condemns both racist and sexist insults (me).  One defends the sexist insult leveled by Samantha Bee (you).  You can bring left and right into it all you want but the proof is right here for all to see.

You don't think women can be sexist towards other women?  What rock have you been living under?  It's called a gendered insult and it's incredibly offensive.

Holy crapsicles... Chill out, man. I asked a sincere question and expected a thoughtful reply, not this defensive crap.

If, by your logic, c_nt is a gendered insult, would that make pr_ck one, too...? I mean, both words are considered extremely vulgar, so would a man calling another man a pr_ck be considered sexist?

Some reading for you chauvenists.

Quote

Of the four people who have caused me the most grief in life, two men are referred to as “assholes” while the women are referred to as “c*nts.” Except “c*nt” doesn’t mean the same thing as “*******,” “****,” “shithead,” et cetera. They may all be derogatory and you may use them against any gender, but you can’t dispute that “c*nt” is named for the female genitalia. It can’t not be specific to a gender. Whomever you use it against, the slur is meant to imply someone who behaves like a difficult woman. There isn’t really a male version of “c*nt,” and “****” just doesn’t come close to “c*nt” in offensiveness.

There are many people in this thread...  What you're doing is exactly what Trump and the White House are doing - making an insult about Ivanka equal to a racist remark about an Obama aid.  They are not equal.  The "I think both are bad" is a deflection technique and its actually pretty deplorable.  To reiterate, no one, anywhere, has said Samantha Bee's comment was appropriate.  But to equate an insult to a racist slur is nothing more than an effort to diminish racism.  And it's wrong.

Sure they can.  Words have different meanings based on context.  Most people see the context here.  She wasn't using the C word because she's sexist.  I dont know Samantha Bee but from what I read, her being sexist would be absurd and laughable.  She used a vile insult.  She could have called her a B-word or a jerk or a prick.  She chose the most inflammatory version of that kind of insult.

I mean...this is obvious.  She used it.  She was wrong (because she undermined her own valid point).  She apologized (much more sincerely than Roseanne).  Her network apologized.  It wouldnt be much of a story if the White House had provided tacit approval to the racist remark by Roseanne but got pissy over Bee's remark.
