  1. First off, this is not an evaluation, merely a statistical breakdown of the offensive drives. I would advise against putting too much faith in any of these numbers. There are a lot of factors to consider, such as supporting cast, opposing defence, and playcalling. I definitely wouldn't evaluate the effectiveness of a QB based on my numbers or yours. I just thought it would be interesting to look at. Misleading numbers are misleading, that's all I'm saying.
  2. Marve has earned the chance to be the backup. If he falters in that role, so be it. Let Brohm take over. But at this point, Marve has been the much more effective QB. Btw, I love how every thread on this board is turning into a Marve discussion thread. For a supposed third-stringer, he sure is getting a lot of attention.
  3. That's not true. Brohm has not been good at moving the sticks. He had one decent game last year in which he was no better than Marve at moving the sticks, but otherwise he's shown nothing.
  4. I don't know about that. Brohm was awful in his first preseason game last year, okay in his second one, bad against Edmonton, pretty good against Calgary, average at best in his last game against Toronto. He has always been very inconsistent in practice as well.
  5. Ehh... I'm not a fan of your evaluation because the QBs don't play much of a part in the effectiveness of the running back. I prefer to look at plays in which the QBs are involved (meaning yards-per-attempt amalgamated with yards-per-carry): Marve: 6.92 Brohm: 5.18 Portis: 5.3 Also, you can't ignore Marve's effectiveness in the red zone.
  6. Is he? I didn't watch the game but people who were watching the stream said he was inconsistent. I trust the coaching staff whatever they do will be the right choice. Inconsistent maybe, but he was still more effective than anyone not named Willy. 6.9 yards per play in which he was involved and 14 points scored overall. No matter how you look at it, Marve has been able to move the offense and put points on the board on a consistent basis. It would be absolutely foolish to cut the guy. You remind me of Roadgriller and his fetish for Goltz. BTW I'm not saying Marve is anything like Goltz. Except Roadgriller had ZERO stats to back up his love for Goltz. Goltz had plenty of TDs. Those are stats. Plenty. IMO, Goltzdeserved a better chance at starting. Named one week, 3rd string the next. Yeah he was very good in short yardage situations but that's it. Again, I like Marve and I think he's better then Goltz, but he hasn't shown us squat. You talk about stats? These are his stats: 2014: 11-22 attempts, for 140 yards and 1 TD 2015 PRESEASON stats (again this is preseason where he's not even going up against the best of the Argo's): 4-9 attempts for 42 yards and 1TD If you put this years and last years stats together, he's below a 50% completion rating. Goltz's completion percentage was 50% as a third string for his first 2 years. After his third year it went up to 55%: 88-160 attempts for 961 yards So you tell me, where are these stats you speak of to back up your love for Marve? Marve hasn't done much of anything yet and some of you are practically proclaiming him the next starter already. It's like everyone says around here, the third string QB is always our best. Marve's stats from last year are extremely misleading (and I can elaborate on that if you want me to). It's rather pointless to draw conclusions from his completion percentage. In this last preseason game, he certainly could have been better but he was still more effective than Brohm and Portis, as he gained an average of 6.9 yards per play in which he was involved, while also putting 14 points on the board. The objective of football is to move the chains and score some points is it not? Well no matter how you look at it, Marve has been able to do those things effectively and on a consistent basis so far.

He might be inconsistent but he did some things and was more effective than the other back ups so let's not cut the guyyou have a very low bar for what you deem a fetish No, actually, I can see where Logan is going with that statement. Seems to me it's far too early to be gushing about a 3rd stringer at this point. Fact is Marve should be the backup. Is the objective in football not to move the chains and put points on the board? Marve has been able to do so effectively and on a consistent basis.

  10. I'm thinking he'd better sign an extension with the Bombers pretty soon then. I'd say he's in real danger of being cut. HAH I would bet 10 million dollars on him not being cut. He's shown the most potential out of all three backup QBs and has stated that he'd like to remain in Winnipeg. It would be downright stupid to cut the guy.

  12. Can't believe Marve is being discussed in the "Potential cuts" thread. There's no chance the guy gets the axe, absolutely none... Especially not by Monday.
  13. I highly doubt it. He's shown enough potential that he's certainly worth keeping around.
  14. This was posted on TEP... Don't know where else to put it. Darrin Bauming@DarrinBauming Robert Marve just told me he wants to make it clear he wants to remain in the CFL and in Winnipeg. He doesn't have NFL aspirations next year Ed Tait ‏@WFPEdTait Interesting. Was apparently off an extension in Dec and turned it down. Club told by his agent he wanted to try NFL. I suppose he realized he wouldn't have much of a chance in the NFL and changed his mind.
  15. He threw a touchdown against Calgary in last year's preseason, but was awful as can be in his first preseason game. I agree with you though, Brohm struggles to move the offense more often than not. As unimpressive as Marve's passing stats from Tuesday were, he still proved to be a more efficient QB than Brohm and Portis, as he gained an average of 6.9 yards on plays in which he was involved. I also think a part of Marve's ability to put up points has to do with the fact that he's proven to be a very "safe" QB so far. He's only been sacked twice in all of his reg season + preseason reps and has not committed one turnover (fumble or interception). As a result, his offence barely ever loses yardage and the ball is never taken away in scoring areas. Brohm moved the ball quite well in his start at home last year until he injured his hand. Yeah, his 6.7 yards-per-play wasn't too bad (identical to Marve's in that game). But then again, the only time he came close to scoring a touchdown, he fumbled in the red zone.

  17. If it was up to me I'd have Marve as the backup, and one of Brohm or Portis as #3. Not sure who's better between those two.
  18. Yeah he was better than Willy against Edmonton when the game was already out of hand, but that's not saying much. The offence still struggled to put points on the board. Brohm thew 0 TDs and 1 interception. His yards-per-attempt was only of 6.6, which is simply not good enough. I'm sorry but I don't see much of anything in Brohm except a strong arm.
  19. Brohm must have an attractive personality. I'm pretty sure Bellefeuille's history with Brohm goes a few years back. Woudn't be surprised if there was a bit of a bromance there. Also, the team probably doesn't want to look stupid for trading an asset to acquire him.
  20. His stats were far from impressive. He had one decent game against Calgary, but even then the offence only managed to score 9 points under his lead. He had that one long completion to Denmark and followed it up with a fumble in the red zone. He was no good in the preseason either. To be honest, I have no idea what his stats were in his games last year, I just recall from watching him that he moved the ball pretty efficiently and made good decisions. I'm thinking of his start at home where he ended up breaking his hand. He looked good that game. Yep that's the game I was talking about. The offence produced 9 points in the 37 minutes he played, while Marve's offence produced 14 (should have been 17) points. Brohm also committed a back breaking fumble in the red zone immediately after the flea flicker to Denmark.

  22. Marve hasn't shown an inability to be a passer either. His tools are impressive enough that no one should write him off after less than a full game's worth of experience. But even then, the results he's had so far at this level have been great, regardless of his style of play.
  23. Except for his knees maybe, which is a legitimate concern.
  24. That's ridiculous considering the way he played last year and so far in TC. If anything, Brohm should be the odd man out, or relegated to third or fourth stringer duty. He's completely immobile and lacks accuracy. There's nothing about him that's attractive except a strong arm. I obviously don't share the same confidence in how well Marve reads defences as you do, or how good he's looked in TC...in training camp. This is why he has to show progress in any chance he gets in pre-season games. Listen, I like the way Marve ad-libbed his way through his playing time last year, but I don't want my QBs to always be scrambling to make plays if he's missed his reads. Marve wants to leave next year, and if Portis and Yantz show well in their time, it wouldn't bother me to see Marve leave earlier. It's not so much confidence in Marve's abilities as it is intrigue... Though I am pretty confident of his superiority over Brohm. He showed very well last year in limited reps despite some difficult playing conditions. Take a look at how the Bombers starters played in Marve's two appearances. It's a little unfair to accuse him of "missing his reads" when he simply extended plays with his legs and generated a lot more offence than his counterparts could.
