  1. But why do you “have to show faith?” Show faith In his ability to punt for the game winning single. It’s like those who argued that running the clock to zero in the last minute was bad because it showed no faith in the offence to go for the TD by throwing the ball and potentially leaving time on the clock. Should the coach not tactically play the best odds to win the game? Was the punt not the better tactical play odds-wise? Is it just the optics of “winning cheap”? And should it matter? I can understand the idea that it could psychologically affect a kicker if his coach doesn’t trust him to kick a 32 yard game winner, but O’Shea can totally frame it as “yes we trust him, which is why we put him out to kick an important 45 yarder earlier rather than punt, but this was about getting the point we need to win. If we trailed by 1 or 2, I make a different decision”. And how is Liegghio’s psyche now that he has missed those 2 kicks? Which is more damaging to his confidence? Just asking, appreciate the counter-arguments from you and would love you to expand if you want to.
  2. To be a 32 yard field goal, ball would be on the 25 yard line. Punt distance is measured from the line of scrimmage, not from where the punter kicks it, so Liegghio’s 47 yard average means he is actually kicking the ball another 10 yards or so from where he stands. It was 45 yards from the line of scrimmage to the back of the end zone, and 26 yards (plus whatever angle distance) to kick it out of bounds in the end zone to the side. 26 yard punt should be pretty automatic.
  3. So, thinking about the end of regulation, and wondering why this was not discussed more. Should O’Shea have called for a punt instead? Aside from the “who wants to win that way?” argument, (and is it really a valid argument?) should O’Shea take any heat for not taking the best option to win? Remember Ken Miller trying this and the punter couldn’t kick it through the end zone, but also remember Lui Passaglia deliberately shanking a field goal out the side of the end zone to win a game in Winnipeg on the last play by one point. Is it a cheap way to win, or smart tactics if the rules allow it? Thoughts? (and this is not just entirely 20/20 hindsight - I did say to my wife in the stands just before the kick “why don’t they just punt for the single?” -did no one else think this?)
  4. Brilliant Twitter guy to follow. This Twitter post launched him into stardom:
  5. Yeah, he could really use the money. His wardrobe looks a little thin. Can’t even afford a shirt or long pants.
  6. Actually, it is more often than it is not. 60% of the time in the last 20 years first place has been decided in the last or second last week of the season. It is better to measure the loss column in determine how far back a team is. BC has 2 games in hand on Winnipeg and is tied in the loss column. Calgary is two losses behind with two games in hand. Now, you do have to win the games in hand, but Winnipeg’s lead isn’t as huge as the current point spread might suggest. Lots of season to go before the West is settled.
  7. No one was to begin with, but thanks for your line in the sand.
  8. Labour day game has traditionally always been a tough game.
  9. What can I say, I’m a Shakespeare guy in a Twitter world. I guess I could have just said “stop being such whiny ******* here about every little thing” but that tends to lead to fights and name-calling, so I opted for measured perspective instead.
  10. All typing. 🤣 Beats 25 posts of one sentence each, or the auto grouping format. But that’s just me. I know some hate the long posts.
  11. The team is held to a higher standard now after back-to-back Cup wins, so nerves get a bit frayed when/if we lose, or even if we win unimpressively. Not sure if it is a holdover from the misery of 29 years of futility where we default to negativity (see the Collaros trade thread or the fire O’Shea thread) or if it is just the fact of fandom, regardless of team. Perspective for the big picture can often get lost in the emotional heat of the moment. Big picture, this team has played very well defensively in terms of points against but has some holes when it comes to yardage given up. The bend don’t break style has been quite Gumby-ish at times, but IMO is still the class of the league. Offensively we have been more than a bit uneven. Points scored are down, the running game is not the powerhouse it was with Harris (even with Oliviera picking it up the last 4 weeks - do people realize he is leading the league now?), our receiving corps has played well but suffered inconsistency with the injuries. Our o-line has been weaker, with its most exposed game last time out, so recency bias makes it look like a glaring problem. Special teams is probably much better overall than last year, but again regency bias makes us sweat because the last game reminds us all of last year and triggers “the sky is falling, can’t trust our kicking at all” comments from some. Would we feel better at 8-2 coming off a win than 9-1 coming off a loss? Yes, for the first three days or so after the game. But either record should not detract from the deficiencies on our game this season that could bite us later on. Is there cause for concern? I’d say yes, our offence needs to look better and more consistent especially, and we are not playing anywhere near as dominantly as a 9-1 record would suggest. In the same breath, does concern equate with saying we are not that good? Absolutely not. We are 9-1 because good teams find ways to win bad games, and great teams find ways to do it consistently. None of these problems we are having are fatal yet, we have the talent base and the experience to look and play sharper, and when we have played our best (BC and Calgary on the road) we have looked like world beaters. Better if we could have done it more than twice in 10 games, but many factors at play (no byes, short weeks, injuries, heavy road schedule, being the team no one else will take lightly). And despite not playing near to our best football, we are 9-1 and better positioned than any other team in the CFL right now. So even with the problems, we are positioned really well and as always will be judged in the overall picture on our playoff success, not a random week 11 game. Just my thoughts on things. Others will have their point of view, and all opinions, right or wrong (as measured by a truly objective outsider, if that can even exist amongst fan bases) are valid, and is what makes fan boards an engaging, infuriating, enjoyable, and fun community to be in. Life is good now if our biggest concern is being 9-1 and not 10-0, and that we can vent our spleens a bit about missed kicks and be immersed in the passion of a good football team we expect/demand/hope for/ receive great things from.
  12. Since the Bombers have been playing down (or up) to the level of their competition all season, maybe this “tougher” (debatable) schedule will bring out the best in them.
  13. Rich, I thought I had picked Hamilton this past week but the board says I picked Toronto. Is it possible the “games” section is showing an error, or did I just hit the wrong button? Is there a way to check my voting, or is the “games” column the official record?
  14. You literally said this yourself 3 days ago to another poster who yelled bias about a TV commentator: SpeedFlex27 Posted Thursday at 09:53 PM That's bias? It's his opinion.
  15. Another big star, another failed drug test. https://www.cnn.com/2022/08/12/sport/padres-fernando-tatis-jr-suspended-mlb/index.html
