  1. As has been stated before, 3DownNation is a bunch of fanboys. Other than Olivia Lawrence, there is no mention in any of the author bios that any of them actually went to journalism school. It would seem most of them have some connection to their home team and some sports related background (ex CIS QB, TSN Radio producer or weightlifter) and a bunch who have had their own podcasts. (Lind of like Zach here at MBB, who has now developed his own podcast and written for 3Down). So they borrow from others and re-frame the articles a fair bit, like going to fan pages, reading comments, and turning them into their “Insider info” gossip column. If you take it for what it is, a rah rah site that offers an exclusive CFL focus, then it is OK. But if you are expecting professional unbiased journalism, you will be underwhelmed and disappointed.
  2. Rourke taking a run at Dunigan’s record.
  3. Nice escape by MBT on that TD pass. Like he has been studying tape of Collaros.
  4. I recall the story being that the royal blue colour was no longer manufactured so they went darker. Seems ridiculous but that is the explanation they went with. And it was KD Williams. Gold teeth as opposed to gold records (no harm, no foul, though).
  5. Two lines from that article sum up the entire problem with MLSE ownership: “You look at value creation and, you know, quite unfortunately, these teams are not worth that much money,” If his entire goal is making the Forbes list and not building an entertaining product, then he won’t bother to make the team better. No one gets rich owning a a CFL team, but they can turn a profit, albeit in the low millions and not billions. Tanenbaum would prefer to have a lousy NFL team because their valuation would be high, even if the on-field product sucks. . Terrible type of owner for fans to have to endure, because he’ll only care about his bottom line and not the fans who pay the freight and want success measured in wins and not the owner’s valuation. “Community owned teams in Edmonton, Saskatchewan, and Winnipeg are happy with the status quo” So the league’s most profitable and best attended franchises are not the model you want to emulate? Tanenbaum doesn’t want to match their kind of success because he sees their profits as too meagre, even though their bottom line is better than his right now. How about trying to match their success first and then looking to get better as an entire league rather than blow it all up because only you can’t get it right like they have?
  6. Even this guy would have been sick of those horns.
  7. Arbuckle’s two INTs in his last two drives may show why he has not gotten the chance to be a full time starter with 4 teams in the last 3 years. His decision to throw across his body into triple coverage on the first one was particularly dumb.
  8. Per the Bomber website: Prohibited items include: No outside food with the exception of a single serving snack; No outside beverages; No outside alcohol, illegal drugs, weapons (or items deemed hazardous by security), incendiary devices. Anyone found with any of these items entering the facility will be subject to eviction from the game and/or arrest; No flasks, ice bags, ice chests, coolers or picnic baskets; No laser pointers, Frisbees, balls, boom boxes, rollerblades, roller skates, skate boards, bats, hockey sticks or poles of any kind; No musical instruments, air horns, powered megaphones, boom boxes, pets, obscene/indecent signs or clothing; Cameras with attachable lenses larger than 6” in length. I guess that means Bomber fans will just have to use their voices to make noise. Think we can manage that?
  9. Only one team has gone 9-9 and missed the playoffs - the 2018 Edmonton Eskimos. Mathematically, the Bombers could still finish 5th in the West this year, but the number of game scenarios that would have to line up to make that happen are so many that it is basically a fait accompli that they are in.
  10. Ignoring the crossover possibilities, and if the Riders do not lose another game before they meet Winnipeg (meaning they beat Edmonton and put the Elks at 6 losses), AND if the Bombers are still undefeated by Labour Day, then the Sweep of Labour Day and the Banjo Bowl would give the Bombers 13 wins and the Riders 6 losses, so we would clinch a West playoff spot at that time.
  11. Stars: Rose Wolitarsky Liegghio HH: Blue Bombers Twitter guy
  12. Trying to find a gif of his befuddled look on the sidelines after that play. Always makes me think of this one:
  13. Right now the narrative is “they can’t win them all, so (a) this is the week to bet against them (as it was with the BC game or last week against Calgary), or (b) but not this week (which seems to be the dominant theme for tonight’s game, despite the “short week on the road” angle). Wonder what the over/under is for wins before the weekly media narrative shifts to “maybe they can go undefeated”? I peg it at 12.5 (that would be right after the Labour Day Classic but before the Banjo Bowl).
  14. At the current moment, there are only 2 points at which I get concerned: 1. We start losing multiple games in a row directly attributed to his absence 2. The first playoff game and he is still not back Even then, both of those things are out of my control as a fan, so I would classify it more as disappointment rather than concern, no point fretting about what you can’t alter. Next man up, go 1-0, etc. As for injuries making signings bad, it is a risk with every contract signing, but Ellingson has not shown signs of being chronically injured in the past, so still a good signing to me. And as we’ve seen with Collaros, even signing a historically injured player can turn out great.
  15. *no animals were harmed in the making of this gif *this one, not so much
  16. What is wrong with teams wanting to keep their advantage, and why should any fan’s “need” to know supersede that? When Streveler had his foot injury in 2019 and it was known, the Stamps in their playoff game took every opportunity to grab and twist his ankle to hurt him if not knock him out of the game. Fajardo says the knowledge of his bad knee is leading to teams targeting him. It happens all the time, and players play hurt all the time. Protecting them is well above the gambler’s need for full disclosure in the team’s mind. Besides, as a gambler all you need to know is “is the player in or out this week before I place my bet?”. You have that information. Whether or not he is back next week is next week’s news. Why he is out this week is irrelevant for gambling purposes. This is not about gambling, it’s about the fan’s feeling of entitlement to be “in the know”. And Mike O’Shea does not feel you are entitled to that information, because his need to protect his player and maintain an advantage in an effort to win games and keep his job is more important than a random fan’s feelings, IMO.
  17. I know exactly why this makes me happy. Arrogance combined with ignorance is a character trait I cannot stand, and comeuppance for those people is the most delicious form of schaudenfraude. This contemptible excuse for a human being has made a very profitable living based on lies, deceit, inflammatory rhetoric, and has bullied and tormented the victims of a horrible national and more importantly personal tragedy for them with zero remorse. Now that he is found liable he is playing a shell game with bankruptcy hearings to cover his ass and avoid the consequences of his own actions. Now caught lying again without a doubt, because of a screw-up, and exposing how much his media empire has actually made, which he tried so hard to cover up. Willful misconduct and perjury, I hope they hang him high and then bury him so deep he never surfaces again. Also curious if any January 6 texts that have gone “missing” are connected to his phone messages? That would be something else!
