  1. Stupidity does not confer invulnerability.
  2. When you are openly corrupt and stand no chance of re-election, why pretend otherwise?
  3. I cannot find any relevant website infromation, either. I could have the African country wrong, as IIRC, I heard the article some 30 years ago on As It Happens on CBC radio. I looked for any references to Africans being returned to Africa and found some, but the country was Liberia, which apparently took its name from frred slaves returning.
  4. Wow. Where do I begin? You have tried to create a false equivalency- the protests are a popular uprising in response to systematic arbitrary arrests and unwarranted killings of black and coloured people in the USA and has spread around the world. As far as violence in black communities is concerned, if you take any group regardless of ethnicity and cram them into substandard housing, give them substandard educations and employment opportunities and no hope for a decent future, you will get drug abuse, violence, homelessness, mental illness, broken families and all the rest you see in many places- not just in the USA, but in the favelas, the Palestinians enclaves, and so forth. How does illegal killings of black people by police equate to marxism, and terrorism?
  5. And getting stoned in public would take on a whole new meaning.
  6. This is common knowledge but just another damning indictment of Trump piled up on top of all the other corruption. It has become so commonplace that Americans, the media and the politicians hardly notice any more. Can you inagine how insane it would be if Trump were re-elected?
  7. FYI trivia: A slave ship en route to the US during the Revolutionary War was intercepted by the British navy and was told they could not deliver their human cargo. Not having the food or water on board to go anywhere else and being humane enough to not throw the captives overboard, they decided to detour to Nova Scotia where they stopped and dumped ashore the slaves. These were from several different racial groups with no common language and were taken in by the locals, fed and sheltered. As the months went by, the disparite people learned to speak Gaelic. Eventually, the British decided this wouldn't do, so they sent a ship, gathered up the former captives and transported them to the coast of what is now Mauritania. The Brits were kind enough to provide these folks with the means to build a community- tools, food, seeds and so forth, so they did, and flourished. So, today there is a black costal community in Mauritania where the inhabitants all speak Gaelic
  8. Brutal to watch but a very good series.
  9. To no surprise of anyone with more functioning brain cells than an amoeba.
  10. This is gonna get verrrry interestink.
  11. Bad optics, yes but apparently Sophie accepted $1500 in 2008. Margaret Trudeau has been a speaker for WE for the past 10 years. Some of this is old history.

  14. Trump reveals that doctors were "surprised" he could pass a cognitive test. President Donald Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity that he has taken a cognitive test and passed with flying colors. Bragging about it, however, he let it slip that the doctors didn't have much faith in him. The comment came as Hannity asked Trump about former Vice President Joe Biden's comment that he has "cognitive tests" all the time. Biden was referencing that he must deal with serious and complex issues frequently and that those things take a cognitive aptitude that he doesn't believe the current president has. Trump dismissed Biden's comments saying that Biden "meant" that he gets tested for the coronavirus all the time. Biden did address that and said that he hasn't wanted to be tested because he doesn't want to take someone else's place in line that truly needs a test. Trump has mocked Biden for staying inside under quarantine. Trump then pivoted to bragging about his competence: "I took it at Walter Reed, a medical center, in front of doctors, and they were very surprised," Trump bragged. https://www.salon.com/2020/07/10/trump-reveals-that-doctors-were-surprised-he-could-pass-a-cognitive-test_partner/
  15. The feds fear Ghislaine Maxwell might try to kill herself behind bars—like her longtime confidante Jeffrey Epstein—so they’ve taken special measures, including giving her only paper clothes and taking away her bedsheets, the AP reported. Maxwell is currently at the federal Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn after being charged for allegedly taking part “in the sexual exploitation and abuse of multiple minor girls by Jeffrey Epstein.” Epstein, 66, killed himself last August in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan while behind bars on sex-trafficking charges. Attorney General William Barr has said the “perfect storm of screw-ups” resulted in his death. Maxwell has a roommate during her confinement and must always be with someone.
  16. Study Suggests Pregnant Women Can Pass The Coronavirus To Their Fetus A small study of 31 women with COVID-19 in Italy found signs of the virus in samples of umbilical cord blood, the placenta and, in one case, breast milk. Researchers from Italy said Thursday that they studied 31 women with COVID-19 who delivered babies in March and April. They found signs of the virus in several samples of umbilical cord blood, the placenta and, in one case, breast milk. Women shouldn’t panic. This doesn’t mean there’s a viable virus in those places and “it’s too early to make guidelines” or to change care, said the study leader, Dr. Claudio Fenizia, an immunology specialist at the University of Milan. But it does merit more study, especially of women who are infected earlier in their pregnancies than these women, said Fenizia, who discussed the results at a medical conference being held online because of the pandemic.
  17. AG Barr Announces ‘Operation Legend’ to Send Federal Troops to Kansas City, Surprises Mayor Attorney General William Barr announced Wednesday that the Department of Justice is sending federal law enforcement to Kansas City, Missouri to fight a recent surge in violent crime as part of a program dubbed “Operation Legend.” The program is named after 4-year-old LeGend Tallifero, who was killed on June 29 by gunfire in the city, which has seen a 40 percent surge in homicides compared to 2019. White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany read aloud a letter from Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas to Missouri’s governor concerning the crime wave during her announcement of the initiative, but the news came as a surprise to the local leader. He said in a statement, “I learned on Twitter this afternoon that the Department of Justice plans to send federal investigators to Kansas City as support for unsolved homicide and non-fatal shooting investigations.” But Lucas said he would not oppose the initiative: “I plan and hope to learn more about this effort over the days ahead. The investigative support effort announced this afternoon can be only one tool out of many.” https://www.thedailybeast.com/ag-william-barr-announces-operation-legend-to-send-federal-troops-to-kansas-city-surprises-mayor?ref=home
  18. Yeah. 'Cause you have cooties by now.
  19. Good News!! Well, mostly. The SCOTUS has ruled that the president is not above the law, with two of Trumps appointees voting against him. That otta boil his pasta reall good. The court also ruled that he must disclose his financial records but proscribed that there is a lengthy process that must be followed, and that will take months. Beyond that, Trump's lawyers have said that they intend to delay any further investigations with endless appeals.
  20. Well, diluting the bleach work involve, you know, work. And selling plain water as a cure would be, um, dishonest.
  21. It would appear that there are no lack of gullible people in the US, so you gotta maximize the return on your investments.
  22. The NHL may have to settle- there are probably few perfect cities.
  23. Wasn't much of a player in BC, either. He will go down in CFL history as one if not the biggest waste of talent.
