No the Esks were missing their starting running back - one of the best in the CFL - at the beginning of the season.  Their second string running back went down shortly thereafter.  The third stringer came in and played quite well during the Eskimos win streak.  This shows good depth.

Cory Greenwood - a Canadian linebacker injured all season
JC Sherritt - injured first game of the season after rupturing achilles
Sean Whyte - best field goal stats this year before he was injured in the 5th game and 93% last year.  Imagine if we lost Medlock?
Simeon Rottier - out most of the season
Adarius Bowman - missed 6 or 7 games...eskimos won 4 of the 7 games on their winning streak without him which shows they can win without a key receiver
Derrell Walker - lost him to the NFL for the first half of the season.  One of the best in the CFL is not so easily replaced in the off-season.

So these are some of the key starters the Esks were missing at or near the start of the season during their winning streak.  Several of these are still out of the lineup.  There have been more in and out since then as well.  The fact that the Eskimos were able to maintain such an impressive winning streak without all these players is impressive and is a testament to their depth.  Only when injuries reached ridiculous proportions (20 plus players) did the inevitable losing commence.

The defense has been bad since game 1, the signs have been there all year and nothing has been done. This regime deserves any heat they get for not being proactive.

This isn't entirely true.  Edmonton started the year with several injuries and it grew to around 13 players injured around the middle of their win streak.  Only when injuries reached around 20 players did the Eskies inevitably start to falter and go on a losing streak.  They still have some players out with season-ending injuries while pulling off several wins recently.

In contrast, once the Bombers lost 3 or 4 players to injury they quickly went into the tank sporting a 1-2 record going into this weekend's game and looking pretty mediocre to awful in all of them.  The Esks were able to handle several injuries at the beginning of the season (many more than the current Bombers) and still win.  The Bombers play took a noticeable downturn with just a few players out of the lineup.  On that basis, it is pretty clear a team like the Esks has better depth than the Bombers at this point in  time.

On the hot seat: Nope. 11 win seasons get you another year and we played better this year than last year, when we won a bunch of games by good luck, good calls and playing backup QB's.
Injuries/Depth: Every team has injuries. Most teams had it worse than the Bombers this year. When you get injuries it's up to the GM/Scouts to provide decent replacements and the coaches to put them in the best positions to excel. Our results speak for themselves and it doesn't put the GM/Scouts or coaches in a good light.
Defence: It's been a problem for a couple of years now. The offense and special teams have bailed our defence out time and time again. I can think of a couple of games this year that the defence won us a game, but that's just not good enough. I'd get rid of Hall and Hurl.
PLAP: I'm guessing he'll be looked at for open HC jobs and it's as likely as not that he'll get one. As much as I didn't like his hire, he's been great at turning Nichols into a good starting QB and giving us a chance in most games. It's a bit of a worry that other teams have figured out our offence in the last month, tho.
Trolls: This is a discussion forum. There have been some trolls who got their id's deleted, but the rest aren't actually trolls. Troll around here gets used for everyone who types anything negative or anyone who disagrees with certain poster's. Those aren't trolls.

I don't think Osh or Walters are going anywhere but if we are one and done, I hope 2 things are considered in the offseason... 1. They take a hard look at how they operate. I get Osh has loyalties, and values certain type of players, but when a talented player becomes available despite some baggage that could help the team on the field,  there should be some effort made to try and acquire them. Not sure if there has been or not,  but seems we are never in the running to land anyone.  Not saying Walters needs to call everyone and spend frivolously, but if it's right there pull the trigger and sort out any sms issues after.
    2. Get rid of Hall and bring in Thorpe.

blueandgoldguy got a reaction from Tracker in Is it Time to quit "Dissing" Chris Jones
Yes, those teams were worse off than the Bombers in 2013
Speaking of which, Ottawa started from nothing and went 12-6 in their second season and made it to the Grey Cup.  Then they fought through several injuries the following season and won the Grey Cup in their third season.  Edmonton was in a similarly dire situation in 2012 with Tillman and Reed.  Sub .500 season.  Get rid of Tillman and hire Hervey.  Fire Reed the next season.  Post a winning season and make the West Finals in 2014 and follow that up with a Grey Cup in 2015.  So the Edmonton rebuild took 2 years and the team was a Grey Cup champion in year 3.
It's been proven time and time again.  Rebuilds in the CFL do not take that long.

Back to Jones.  He is a ****, but a winning ****.  Much rather have that than a losing **** like Joe Mack who is once again showing his shoddy recruiting skills with the 3-14 Als this season.

Care to elaborate?  Jones came into a situation just as bad if not worse than Walter/O'Shea.  Aging team with no Canadian depth.
Trestman and Popp came on very late in the off-season in Toronto.  Remember how long it took ownership to fire Jim Barker.  The new manager and coach barely had any time to prepare for the draft and recruitment.  All the other teams had a head start.

GM/Coaches like Chris Jones and Trestman and Popp are proving it doesn't take 3 years to rebuild a team into playoff or even Grey Cup contender.  Jones accomplished this feat in 1.5 years while Trestman and Popp appear to have accomplished this in a half year in Toronto.

Thats a lot of love for offense. Idk they drove the ball late. But going into that last possesion they had some 240 yards total and some brutal 2 and outs.  The 4th Q 2 and out that put the D right back on the field after a 5+ minute drive by TO was really what killed our chances of winning.  Ricky ray alone put up 130+ yards more then our offense did. A pretty miserable total team loss.

Even before today Bombers FG kick percentage was worst in the league. Even before today Bombers D surrendered most yards of all teams on 1st down and gave up most yards on average per play - worst in the league. This is football bread and butter and signals continued major weakness. This weakness is just being exacerbated down the stretch.

On the OB pregame show, it was reported that the Bombers have had the fewest player-games lost to injuries, so I guess we were due. Leggett went down after falling to the ground catching a short kickoff, so I think its likely he will be ok. Our receiving core was barely good enough before Adams went down, so it looks like we are in trouble there.

The defense was great for the most part, but the final few minutes of the game were a let down.  Giving up two TDs in less than two minutes is pretty weak even if it is "garbage time."  For the poster who keeps chiming in with the garbage time rhetoric, need I remind you that there have been at least two games this year (that come to mind) where the defense gave up two quick scores late in the fourth quarter forcing the game into overtime - one against Glen and the riders and another against Durant of all quarterbacks and the Als.
I can't help but feel if the Bombers were up by two scores instead of 3 in this one that they still might have given up those 2 TDs late anyways.  I also can't help but feel it's not entirely Hall...probably a good portion of it is his fault, but a good portion of the blame lays at the feet of the defenders.

The defence wasn't much different last night than it is most nights. The big difference was that our offence couldn't put up more than 30 points and eat up a bunch of TOP. I'd say we are 10-4 despite our defence, not because of it.
