  1. And do regularly employ players of poor character. That's not my fault. Misdirected anger methinks. Nick Marshall the crip for crissakes.
  2. Take a look at the malcontents and head cases your team has regularly employed over the past several years. It's not idiotic to hold your team to account for it. You Rider fans should do the same. Don't give me the holier than thou bullshit from a fan base that felt Marino was a martyr. Sorry if anyone is a bunch of clowns and idiots, it is an organization that stood behind that player and a fan base who felt he was unfairly persecuted. Not even going to get into Nick Marshall's status as a gun toting member of a violent gang, that was public knowledge for years. I will wear your disdain like a badge of honor, knowing the truth hurt your feelers.
  3. As we told Bluto last year, it was only a matter of time before Kelly's penchant for erratic behavior would rear it's ugly head again. I'm frankly surprised it took this long. He belongs with Chris Jones, or the Riders, and that is not a ringing endorsement of his character.
  4. Toss Kelly out of the league. He can go play with G.Marino. This isn't unlawful dismissal unfortunately but the victim had every right to be protected from a predator, and if the Argos and the CFL have any moral compass they will dismiss Kelly.
  5. Simmons on a min contract might be worth a camp look. Would have to due our due diligence on his mental health tho.
  6. Could be they are not ultra confident that they would land him if he does come back. They threw gaudy (650k per) at him to stay last offseason and he walked away without giving it much thought. If he really loved the Lions org he might have mulled that over for a bit. Toronto would be my bet.
  7. Yea...the return on any players Promo money would be very high. Nothing sells tickets like winning. If you can exceed the SMS by half a million dollars through the use of promo money you can increase your win totals and thusly ticket sales. That is in effect the same and only reason a business runs promo...to sell more. Therefore, I suggest we pay all our players promo money for a lower cap hit, put a dynasty out there, and reap the rewards of outstanding attendance that comes from winning.
  8. I guess if you want to call a 200k signing bonus team friendly. Good total number but if VA goes down during the season the cap relief isn't great.
  9. No doubt about that. Those lean years hit the community owned teams hard. One needs to remember though that the late 90s were an epic disaster for us. Ritchie and Taman at least put a respectable product on the field. Not championship calibre but there were some good years there.
  10. I don't think we would have folded, and I doubt we would still be a bottom feeder but the whole CFL was in financial peril throughout most of the 90's and early 2000's for sure. Taman did not have any kind of budget or scouting department to speak of. When the league stabilized and brought in the SMS it killed his career really because he didn't have a hot clue how to do the job properly but was better than most during a time everyone was winging it.
  11. Yikes, gotta be thinking crossover in that scenario I would think.
  12. Well it was mentioned that the reason we got Streveler so cheap was that he could earn a lot of money off the field in Winnipeg. I wonder if we threw him a bunch of 'promo" money?
  13. Barker said using this to circumvent the cap is becoming the CFLs dirty little secret.
  14. No you are bang on. To say Winnipeg is a **** hole because of a couple impoverished neighborhoods is kinda ignoring the fact every city has these problems. Just look at downtown LA. Hundreds of thousands of homeless have taken it over. Not too many ppl calling it a shithole tho.
  15. I live in Thompson Manitoba now, violent crime capital of North America. Moved from Winnipeg full time a couple years ago. Wouldn't live anywhere else. Love it here. Social issues ...oh yea..makes the North End look like a Christian retreat. Like any other city tho it's contained to certain areas, even in a small city. Just stay away from those areas and enjoy the rest of the city. This isn't rocket science. Smh, at those complaining about Higgins Ave. Or Spence...wtf you doing there in the first place. Every city ever founded has some low track areas, and newsflash they are almost always bordering on downtown. Have some awareness, stay outta there, and quit bitching about it. Good lord. If you can't find one redeeming quality, or even a reason why you are staying why stay?
  16. He's either way over the top or is the most sheltered Winnipegger around. There is a ton of cool stuff to do in Winnipeg in the summer. I'm not huge on hanging out in any of the areas that our social issues create problems but really that's like 5% of the city. Where the hell are you riding your bike Mike? I do agree with him that my favorite part of a Manitoba summer is time at the lake though.
  17. Am I spending my tourist dollars to head to Winnipeg? Not a chance. I can list a hundred cities I would say that about too. Winnipeg is what it is and has a ton of problems. So do most cities.
  18. Downtown (insert name of any big city) has major problems that need to be fixed. Just the reality around North America really.
  19. No one was accusing you of being controversial. Hypocritical maybe...but not controversial. You stated your feelings on visiting Winnipeg, I stated mine on visiting Toronto. I accept your viewpoint, you are suggesting mine and others are bit far afield...whatever that means.
  20. Yes, a cigarette habit downtown can get very expensive if you are a kind soul. Same to you, but that's been my experience. Sorry if that hurts your feelers. I don't see what you see in Winnipeg, but that doesn't mean you are wrong. When we live in a place we tend to give it the benefit of the doubt and grow accustomed to and then overlook the warts. You are doing the same with Toronto. I saw the same social issues in Toronto every time I went. Weirdos and homeless all over the place, garbage and litter everywhere, and a general feeling of unease and being unsafe after dark. Could I have avoided this...probably...but you could do the same in Winnipeg.
  21. having visited Toronto over the last several decades (80s,90, 00s,10s,20s) it is shocking to me how badly things have fallen off. I can only even put it in the nice place to visit category if you plot out exactly where to stay, where to visit and especially what areas to avoid. Sounds familiar Bluto? It should but my post too is reality.
  22. Thanks. I am not phone savvy enuff to do it. Lawler will need an 18 game season to cash in again.
  23. Don't know that he would have done a ton more but he likely would have had a longer career I think.
