Sorry but I completely disagree with your business assessment. You better believe that they can write down profits from other sectors of their operation with losses from another. 100% that happens. I worked in corporate, then owned multiple businesses of my own, and can tell you that is exactly what happens. That is the point of a tax dump. I'm not suggesting they want to lose any more money than they have to, but owners around the league never bought these teams with high expectations of profitabiliity and were fully aware that they were in all probability buying a tax dump. There is no tax evasion for using capital losses from one enterprise against capital gains in another so long as they are all under the same umbrella. That is not an accounting scandal. I did it several times throughout my businesses and was also audited on a couple of them. No problems because it was legit. For many of the corporations the community and national goodwill of owning a money losing CFL team, is worth the losses they incur. Perception in the public eye is huge to companies like Rogers. This probably offers a really cheap way to buy goodwill because there is a lot of exposure by owning a CFL team to this act of "community goodwill" than other avenues of doing so.

Last year he was the highest ranked SAM in PFF. That is above average over other SAMs in the league I would say. You still have an axe to grind with him, but his PFF rating says otherwise. I get that PFF ain't the end all be all but it is an advanced stat showing he is most definitely starting calibre. Teams are free to release beforehand and probably will. The deadline was extended but no way NFL teams keep every guy right until the end. In fact we probably see guys released earlier so that others can be brought in with expanded rosters until the 30th. You can look at multiple players because there is no cut down dates before Aug 30 so there will be roster room. If a guy is not working out you can cut him and bring in another fringe guy in his place and still have time to get a good look if you cut the first guy soon enough.

Our LBers, particularly Jones, Kramdi and Griffin were top notch last night and our DL started making noise later in the game as well.

But we didn't lose now did we. If my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle. There are a lots of times QBs get away with INTs in the course of a game and win player of the week afterwards. You are making an argument in bad faith. There were at least 2 near INTs by Ottawa because our players let balls go through their hands. That's not a QB mistake. FACT of the matter is that Dru and the offence erased a huge deficit in the third Q to get the win while Maier wilted when the game is on the line. Furthermore, the discussion was about whether Dinwiddie made the right decision...his team is 0-6 with poor QB play in all but 2 of those games. Clearly he did not make the right decision and his decision was not based on anything but practice reps.

At the very least he should have given the team the impression that there was an actual QB competition for starter. Not giving him any play time in pre-season had to be viewed by the O players in Ottawa as mistreatment of Dru. No way he could sell that Maier beat him out when there was no chance for Dru to compete.

Dinwiddie had a fractured locker room after demoting the former starter. That's what "it became a distraction" really means. All eyes were on him to do right by Dru. No one else got a sniff at him because there were a whole bunch of his current players judging Dinwiddie on how he would do right by Dru in the whole situation. He wasn't shopped. He wasn't released but Dinwiddie knew that Dru not getting to go where he wanted after being mistreated would be viewed very badly by his locker room. RD got what he could in a trade but at no point did he maximize return, nor could he have. As is it this 0-6 start is likely due to some fracturing of the locker room over his decision to go with Maier.

What would be in it for Ottawa to treat their former franchise QB respectfully while the whole locker room, guys who went to war with him, watched to see how the new GM would treat him? Is that what you are asking?

Gotta agree to some extent. Any time we are not leading a game it turns into the fire everybody thread instead of a GDT. I was among the pitchfork crew but can say I was caught up in the emotion of the game. Problem is that we are on a 3 game win streak using nothing but our 2nd and 3rd string starters and there are a ton of guys who are going to show up on the forum this week and roast our management, coaching and half our starting lineup. Not the usual amount of roasting that any management or coaching gets, but the kind that is reserved for winless teams. Winning and losing are the metric and yet week in and week out we hear the same thing no matter what, and that is pretty telling. It is no longer a balanced assessment by many here, it's a bias and/or an agenda. We are spoiled here. Most teams fan base would be tickled pink going 3-0 after losing their number one QB. Not us.

I guess a bunch of us should have shut our yaps and waited until the end. Our guys are playing hard but our schemes leave too much to the . Our defense is predictable and exploitable without enough talent to do so. That's a Walters and Younger problem.

Players with no pride whatsoever. Passengers on every play. Younger with a bizarre gameplan. Not sure why our guys have to be down 2 scores to get going. Agree with Mike..gotta be consequences. Biggest problem...Younger.

There are a ton of advantages to having a tax dump.

Most of the owners dont mind the tax write off. Some people here dont realize that many of the owners bought these teams for the tax write off. They will never be profitable because that's the way they want it in their over all business holdings. They run some expenses through the team to make their other businesses look more profitable. As a business man I can assure you that when you own a portfolio of businesses, money is moving all the time

We should also thank Dinwiddie for being stupid enough to trade his best QB. Both Walters and Dinwiddie may have saved our season. Good thing Dru wanted Winnipeg as well, so I guess MOS also deserves some credit. We didn't sit on our thumbs and not seize the opportunity to upgrade, and that is something that gives me continued hope in the trinity.

Yea, the league has been in far worse shape in the past than it is now. Both financially and on field. Lately we've been told that there is a QB crisis...not seeing it personally. Financial crisis? I don't think the league has been in such good shape in decades. I get that everyone wants our league to be uber successful, but in the past we've been kept afloat by lifelines from the NFL and to own a CFL franchise in almost every city is an act of philanthropy....always has been but in the last few years we've seen 3 beautiful new stadiums built and revenues this year just went up dramatically just on the TV contract. Are teams going to lose money? Some of them but that's basically a given in the CFL since Christ was a cowboy.

Right? Didn't handle his QB situation at all and traded his QB insurance policy away. Really dumb thing to do. He did enuff to win but it was far from starting caliber play That would be a gamble we dont need to take. The risk far outweighs the reward and thats not a winning gambling strategy

The one thing about a hammy is you can't pull the wool over anyone's eyes. If he can play it's because he's healthy because even a slightly bad hammy is very noticeable.

We are in a situation now that we can err on the side of caution with Zac. If he's not totally 100 he should sit this week

Hammies are such a hard thing to keep healthy after you have a serious injury. Slow healing time and they can't be rushed even a little. I'm sure the Als won't risk his season if he is not 100%.

ZC has been playing good football this year. He should start if he's 100 healthy. We should not rush him tho with a quality back up like Brown.

Good to see we are not rushing ZC back out like years past. Let his neck heal up 100%. Brown against Ottawa is just too good of a CFL story to not happen.

I think the defence is beginning to gel. The offensive line looked 100x better last game. If we have indeed shored up those two aspects we can compete with anyone.
