My view from the stands says Calgary D played well but our offense didn't even try and make it hard on them. We played right into what they expected and really only made them cover about 10 yards of field. Didn't even try and push the ball downfield other than the one play where Streveler had Harris deep but missed him. Until under 5 minutes left that is.

That was the difference really. The Stamps made the Bombers defend the entire field, the Bombers didn't do the same. I can live with a loss when you try your best and come up short but the Bombers offense rolled over and prayed for the D to carry the day, but BLM ain't going to turn the ball over, you actually have to go out there and beat him. The D did an admirable job and Lapolice and his passive bullshit wasted that effort.

Bang on.   LaPo's playcalling was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too conservative for this game.    The defence played their butts off and i think because they kept it close it made LaPo stubbornly stick to a game plan that clearly wasn't working.   Nichols was too quick to throw away the ball too.  We needed to stretch out their d.   The old saying comes to mind "The passing game can open up the running game".  It's so maddening that this game was there for the taking and we should be talking about how the Bombers can be beat the RedBlacks.  Instead we're stuck on another year on the longest Grey Cup drought in the league.

The scheme we ran against Edmonton is something that would be successful game in and game out, and get better as the defense settles into it too...why it wasn't done much if at all prior to this is somewhat baffling considering the results, as the main premise of it is not something new and exotic, nor unfamiliar in style to this league...very weird...and If they revert back to the "old" style they were using next game...something is really wrong.

I said the same thing to my buddy when watching the game, "where was this all year?" .   I was listening to TSN 1290 on the way to work, and Westwood brought up an interesting point.   The defence has only allowed 1 offensive TD in the last 3 games.  NOw it's a bit misleading considering we played Sask and Montreal before hand, but to do it against Reilly, perhaps there is something brewing here.   All that being said, I don't believe, nor do I hope, this is enough to save Richie Hall's job.   At any rate, I'm glad we are tied with the Schmoes and the Leos and actually are in a much better position to get into the post season.

  3. We gotta take this one game at a time, with the personnel that we have.    The reality is that the Bombers do control their own destiny.  We start stringing some W's and we can go into the playoffs with a bit of confidence.   I hope the boys used the bye week to their advantage.

Annnnnddddd.... I still think Nichols can rebound (my medication hasn't worn off completely yet)

  4. All these names are being dropped... not all ex players make good coaches.   Secondly, guys like Steinhauer have to want to come here.    Just like you have to lure players, you've got to lure coaches too.    I get that we are all frustrated with us not having a championship caliber team for that past 30 years.    It speaks volumes to the passion of this fanbase, which i am a proud member of.  The reality is you can't just expect to throw various names out and say this group of coaches will lead us to the promised land.    I can certainly appreciate the imagination that you guys have, but the reality is you have to make incremental changes.   Cleaning house has left this franchise a mess for years.   We need stability.  But I agree that we do need some new coaching. The talent on the field is being mishandled .     BUt these coaches don't jsut fall out of the sky.  You need a replacement first.   Just my .02

  5. Perhaps I'm in the minority here but what's not to like about Walters?  He's brought in the talent to rebuild this sad sack team inherited from Joe Mack.   Say what you want but the guy has done a remarkable job . Lest we forget that we had a 3-15 team not too long ago.   The blame should squarely fall on the coaching. I'm running out of excuses to defend O'Shea.   Hall needs to go.  LaPo just looks lost right now.. no imagination again. Just like it was all those years ago.  This season is slipping away and changes need to be made.

Total curiosity but what is the penalty for hitting a ref? Brooks did it today and got 15 yards, I thought it was an automatic ejection?

In the bush league CFL it isn't.  Any other league it's an ejection and suspension.   I don't care if that was accidental you never hit an official.

I think everyone has had time to vent now.

You gotta have a short memory right? I'm sure the Bombers have moved on and are now getting ready for the most important back to back of the season. A split is a must, two wins and we will all be on cloud 9.

A short memory is one thing, but when you see the same thing over and over what then?    I've seen disturbing similarities in the last 2 weeks.   Let's call it like it is.  This fanbase is frustrated with 30 years of Grey Cup drought (need I remind everyone that this is a 9 team league).    After two very positive seasons, we have regressed significantly this season.   I'm sick of seeing the team struggle so mightily, and the coaching doing absolute jack to fix it.  As season ticket holders/ long term passionate fans we want to see progress towards winning.

You are right though, 2 wins against the Hillbillies will create a euphoria for the fan base.

  8. I have zero confidence in us splitting these two games.   I honestly think we'll lose both.  I don't understand where Nichols is at this year.  Something is clearly bothering him cuz he looks awful.   The last 2.5 games offensively have flat out sucked.   Even the win against Hamilton you could see the 2nd half of that game where the o was pitiful . I'm not saying Streveler is our saviour but what's the harm in giving him the reigns for 2-3 games.  Nichols might well benefit from riding the pine.  O'Shea stubbornness is really going to hurt us if we end up missing the playoffs by 2 pts.

You come in enemy territory you get just that, so no we don't take it easy on any enemy fans.

Having said that, should be a great two weeks of football coming up.  If I'm a ssk fan, id be nervous about Nichols finding his groove again because he has played petty well against SSK in recent years.  Only thing that might negate that is Richie Hall being bad.

I'm almost inclined to believe this is a fact.   Wonder how long he would last as Sask's defensive coordinator.

Missed tackles and blown coverage is a on coaching? Im no hall fan but... How is that coaching?

EXACTLY.   Our DB personnel is garbage.  Loffler IMO was brutal all year.   Alexander is a rookie and looked like a player playing his fist post-season game.  Hurl is just awful.   It's entirely possible that Hall's schemes were good, but the personnel could not execute it.  Then again, if you don't have the personnel, then as a coach ADJUST your schemes to your personnel.   We need a legit Middle Line Backer.   And I hope Leggett comes back healthier next year.  He was missed today.

have you been to IGF before?  the crowd doesn't need much motivation to be that 13th man.  On offense, the team likes it quit so I do see the reasoning behind the "first down" chant.. its good as long as it dies off before the snap.

I've been to many games at IGF and the old stadium.    I was just pointing out that it's the announcers job to try and motivate the crowd.... whether we agree with it or not.  And i believe most of the audience/crowd/fans knows to be quiet when the offence is rolling.  Even if they don't, there's plenty of people to tell them or help them understand.

And for the record, I want the True North to stay at Jets games.   Bring back glorious and blue at Bomber games.

  12. I'm not sure where all the hate for the "True North" is coming from.  I agree it needs to stay at Jets games though.    It's a fun thing and becoming a tradition , so why not have it?   Is it any less stupid than throwing an Octopus in Joe Louis arena?  Or sounding the Hurricane bell in Carolina?   Seriously, why get all bent out of shape about it?

As for the Bomber game experience... the announcer's job is to motivate the crowd and get them involved.    So telling fans to stand up at Bomber game or encourage the crowd to yell "First Down"  , i'm all for it.      Here's something to consider... if the fans are having fun and into the game... that makes the home team's adrenaline get pumping and they start to get amped.     THIS IS WHY IT"S CALLED HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE.

    My .02

  13. I really am hoping for a solid performance from the Boys.  And as I much as I hate agreeing with Troy Westwood, this feels like a "must-win" game.     When Wild went down last week, it's like the defence just crumbled.  The loss of Wild and Okpalaugo make our defence weaker.  That being said, the depth has definitely improved on this club and tonight I guess we'll see by how much.   TJ Heath is amazing though and I hope he gets 2 more picks today.

Nichols needs to rebound and the receivers need to start catching balls and making plays.    Nichols cannot take the hits he has been taking and the O-Line needs to open holes for Harris!

I was so pumped for week, I legit thought  we were going to beat Calgary.  So my enthusiasm has been tempered due to the previous performance.   I want to see the Blue gut for that W tonight, and keep  Ricky Ray flat on the turf!
