Ottawa came out prepared and motivated after the bye week. They had two weeks to plan out their first 10-20 plays. No wounder they executed and looked good along the way. But as the game progressed the Bombers stopped the ground game, and limited the damage from Burris. So far Willy has out dueled argueably two of the most prolific quarterbacks in the CFL in Burris and Ray and I think Etch should get some credit for that. Like ISO and Adrenaline_x were saying.. After allowing 21 points on the first three drives we limited the damage from Burris and only allowed 7 points (3,3,1) in the last three quarters. Not a bad effort at all!

All I know is that Kelly made two big plays in the fourth quarter when the game was on the line. One for a first down in the redzone and that deep throw down the side line to seal the deal. I'd be very hesitant to take out a skilled 6'5 receiver.. He's one of the guys that Willy's going to look to when we need a big first down.

I'm not sure why you have such an issue with this.  It is obvious this isn't a position they planned on having for the coaching staff to start the season.   They liked what the new guy brought as a guest coach and made the budget work to hire him full time.

The way I see it, that is the exact opposite that you are suggesting.   They aren't cheaping out, they made room in the budget to bring in someone they liked.

Sorry iso, I have to call you on this one.

    1) First, quality control coach is about one step above water boy in the grand scheme of things.  Its just another set of eyes on the game film, and some of their job is to collect and sort it (from what I've heard, maybe this won't hold true for the Bombers).
    2) You would like the staff to "encompass a lot more experience" but both our coordinators have been in the CFL for over a decade (with brief stints out).
    3) This hire isn't meant to 'inspire a lot of confidence.'  Its a quality control coach.
    4) Re: cheap. The Bombers now have added a ton more coaches than last year (hell, almost double) which would indicate that they are spending quite a bit more in the coaching department in previous seasons.  But yes, I am assuming a quality control coach came cheap, because its a low, entry-level coaching position...

Paul Friesen is a schmuck.  I didn't realize this was a Friesen article at the start but once the ****-throwing really started I knew it was his schtick all over again.

Don't care what this idiot has to say.  He doesn't watch practice, he doesn't even comprehend the CFL (or really, any league) well and he certainly has no idea how to write articles.

What really ticks me off though is that people actually side with this buffoon and now we'll certainly be hearing about this crap all season.

I'd rather have Glenn to be honest. Solid and dependable. In a weak eastern division we might be able to win the east with him, and have Goltz learn and package some plays for him, then in a year or two hopefully Goltz is ready. But who knows they said that about Glenn in Hamilton with Porter, and with Tate in Calgary. Glenn's remained the constant. Goes to show how under rated this guy really is.

Not to mention that as the game wore on those sweeps became much less effective as the bombers knew it was coming and made sure guys were in position to stop it. Thinking that Montreals offense being new caught them napping a bit early on but as the game went along the bombers D started sniffing those out.

It's only one game. I wouldn't get too high or too low on the kid. I still think Reilly will be a fine QB in this league, but he's going to take his lumps as many first year starters do.

Thought the defense played well considering the three first half turn overs by the offense. The thing that really kills me is Bruce pushed off of Johnson yet they call it on Johnson.. a 50 yard play while the game is on the line. If you're not going to call it against Bruce then don't call it at all.. Then to miss the PI on Edwards.. Tough way to lose the game. I thought the defense played good. I mean SJ Green got his catches but he made the tough catches, nothing was ever easy. Buck played well at times, absolutely terrible at others. It's disappointing that with all the misfortune Winnipeg had all night they still had a good chance to win the game. Oh well.. 17 games to go.
