Elgersma, and probably other NATs as well, would already be here if the CFL didn't have the ridiculous 3 year contract for crap money on NATs.
UFL pays QBs up to 100k USD iirc.
EDIT: 64k minimum contract with some making 200-400k. I would think Elgersma would be on the lower end. However, we just saw the UFL MVP sign with us to be at best 2nd string. I can't imagine that Elgersma has more earning potential that he does in that league.

No kidding. The guy is 23 years old. One opportunity down south could be life changing money. He hasn't said a negative word about the CFL or the Bombers and he's just exhausting his options.
-
Yea I was thinking more understanding the game better at the CFL level.
And while I'm at it I really hope we utilize our 2nd string QB this coming season more than short yardage snaps. I just can't get over the absolute relunctance in doing so. I'm not suggesting pulling the trigger everytime ZC struggles, I'm suggesting being way more strategic with the back up QB other than hat on backwards signaling in plays trotting out onto the field for 3 and inches fall forward and being ready to go if ZC gets blown up.

But it’s his dream. It probably is a pipe dream but it’s his pipe dream. Obviously it’s not about money since dude being paid peanuts the past year now.
-
To be fair, I think Mike was referencing his football career in general not specifically the nfl. But either way, you seem to be offended by his choices. As long as there are stories like Warner out there its easy to believe guys will believe in themselves and chase their goals.
And if Streveler can get an NFL pension, Elgersma has at least a chance
-
Let’s pretend you are 23 and a QB and you’re trying to live your dream cuz that’s what this is. A kid trying to live his dream. Now try again.

yeah, didn't see much from Logan last year that showed that he was still a CFL returner ... if Vaval is off chasing the NFL, would rather roll a rookie or a FA signing there.
-
For me it's not about $$ it's about finding that absolute force in the middle. Sayles reminds me of Vega. He's above average but not someone who is going to be dominate game in and game out. I wouldn't be disappointed if the Bombers signed Sayles, but I wouldn't want to place all my hope in him turning around the DL....if that makes sense.

ahhh....gotcha....but none the less a players career and his talent level has really no bearing on anything....as well as if never played...Some giys are just made to be able to coach, get points and strategy accross, and to actually demonstrate....and most hone that craft over yrs...and it's a rarity to just plop a gy into the pro coaching ranks with zero experience...and or zero idea if they can do the job....other than we really liked hi as a player...he so smart..etc...etc
I would want the best players and coaches available on my team, not some gifted placement....

Our interior is more of a problem than our D Ends. if we had two guys who could push inside controlling the run & pressuring the passer I;m sure our Ends play would improve greatly. Instead we had this Cheeto defense witha 3 man front featured with jake Thomas. He's gone now sort of. I have hope they actually want to see an improvement.

Yup...We need the veteran and a guy who can still play in a nice rotational role....I dint think he has declined to the point of uselessness and over pay...and heck...we do that ad nauseum here so anyway....so why stop
I wanna see him perform outside the stupidity that they had him playing last yr to determine the value....of he looks cooked in camp...surprise cut or trade
Nichols...WJ...Lawson...Holm...Kramdi is a good core group to build around with youth, guess you can toss T .Jones in there as well so so 6 2nd/3rd yr guys and rookies to that mix will be an esy transition
The ability to field 4...5 imports with Lawson and Bailey on the dline with the fact we should be able to have one of or more of Kramdi....Shay...Smith and hopefully Makonzo at any given time will have us light yrs away from last few yrs with slugs like Thomas...Korn...Gauthier...Scmeck (tho he has a role now)....Hallett flailing at ball carriers

I agree that things are going well so far in the internal offseason.... All the re-signings have been good players... all the releases have been the right players... when it come to the old guys debate - Neufeld, Big Stan, Willie, and Wilson - I think Wilson should be the only obvious cut... the other three still have a place at the right price... some quality up-and-comers on D like Smith, Shay, Woodbey, Allen and a quality DL addition in FA would be the one big thing I'm hoping for..... we need that force in the middle we've been missing since Stove...

Holm is outstanding... A worthy All Star recipient. Stoked to have him back.
-
I love the timing of this post after booch questions if we're moving on from him.

If Kramdi can walk, he will be starting im sure.
Allen showed some brilliant flashes at S, but I would love to flip-flop him and Kramdi.
I don't love Kramdi + Holm, but as long as we don't fall in love with a really bad db out of camp, yet again, the secondary will be very good.
I think DL, and flipping the ratio at 1 lber spot is far more critical to the success of the D.
-
With Kolankowski gone and Thomas sorta gone, O'Shea will be dangerously low on pets, so Kramdi is golden.
-
Goosen...Fortin...among others
Woodbey should be our SAM and also an almost Jack at times off the edge of line....Griffin as well if resigned, tho not in a jack spot...Griffin and Nichols as the HB's as well would be ideal...and we get more physical with Woodbey and Griffin playing starter reps
Smith as well needs to be playing majority of reps at WIL and even in the role Woodbey had...
correct guys....and this also has to go hand in hand with not predetermining and being rigis with ratio based on how we ran it before....just negates talent on roster from actually playing
if camp shows Kramdi is not best player at SAM....does Osh start him anyway...cause thats Osh...And they have to justify his stupid salary?...Probably....and that right there makes us weaker on defence...
-
wonder how much holm got? i’m mentally preparing for it to be kramdi level pay.
Despite a few heavy over pays, a solid free agency period and draft will have us in A grade off season territory imo.
Based on the addition by subtraction I have us on the fringe of an A minus/B plus.
We need a cfl calibre qb coach, and need to address atleast two of wr/ol/dl in free agency with legit cfl starters. Then we need to have a solid crop of draft picks while adding depth with real upside also at wr/dl/ol.

I think its time to move on from Jefferson. He's going to be 35, he's had declining production the past two seasons, he takes plays off and he costs too much money. Too be honest, he seems to get a pass from many here, while other players don't.
-
Jesus thats alot of QB’s already. Hope its not an indication that the Bombers don’t expect Elgersma to sign.
-

If Kramdi makes the tackle, the Lions have time to kick the fg for the win. Obviously doesn’t make him a hero just funny how it worked out.
Yeah feel for both Parker and Bonds. Showed lots of promise and had the tools… honestly I wonder how many burns could be attributed to our pathetic d-line use hanging them out to dry.
-
No more JT on the d-line, no more Hogan running the entire offence, it’s a beautiful day! 😁
