It would be interesting to get Willy's perspective on the difference between MB and GCortez.

From what I can gather, Drew has a lot of respect for the current OC.

I don't know if we can pin the failings of the 2014 offence on Bellefeuille or the OL.  Is Bellefeuille's offence (and Willy) effective with a league average OL or better?  Does the offence (and/or the QB) make the OL look worse than it is.

Personally, I think both statements are somewhat true.  Bellefeuille's offence can't truly be evaluated if the QB is having to improvise as often as Willy had to in 2014; but the guy was a statue in the pocket as the season wore on.

I think if we're throwing money at problems, I throw it at the OL and the DC.  If the OL improves, Bellefeuille's offence MAY be better in 2015.  Etch's scheme is a known quantity, and HE brought in the players he wanted to fit in the scheme.  That's not a failure you can lay at the feet of the players.

It's the OC's plays that tell the OL where they need to go.  According to January, the schemes were not very good and made the OL look bad.  And from what I saw, I tend to agree.

You can give MB all the best OL in the world and I bet our offense will still suck.

Bellefeuille made Calvillo look like he was washed up and the montreal OL look useless in 07 that says a lot right there.

I have to agree with that - Calvillo took some serious punishment that year - particularly from the boys in blue and gold.

Should also be noted, the very next year calvillo was named MOP and the Alouttes went to the grey cup. As far as I can tell with basically the same OL.

Talk about Wally all you want, his team is an absolute disaster right now.

Quite honestly, they've probably got to be feeling worse about themselves than any other franchise in the league right now and it's the exact same reason we struggled for a very long time - no QB, no OL, no hope.

I'd be surprised if at the end of 2015 season the Bombers weren't still looking up at the Lions.  Wally's teams are always competitive.

He left Calgary a mess it took them 5 years to clean it up.

DON"T YOU GO USING FACTS TO BACK UP YOUR POINT!!!! There are people trying to make it seem like the sky is falling over here!!

This is the most idiotic way of voting.  What kind of losers sit there voting over and over again for 15 hours?

Yea, should be single vote. Seems a lot more accurate that way.

    Thank you. Voted Dressler ;).

Of course you did, you're a worthless rider homer.

So now you're going to take potshots at me over a stupid poll?

    Come on.

    shut up rider fan!

Lawless hit the nail right on the head this time. MB at least had an excuse with all the injuries and declining QB play he got. What was Etch's? Sweet FA.

wild hurt for a couple games, Anderson lost for the season, vega playing injury all year...can you think of a defence that would be successful with as poor a defensive line as the Bombers had this year?
Don't forget, sears, sherman, washington, kuale, newman, johnson, fraser....all players who missed some time if not the entire season. I think there may be a couple more but I can't remember.
I think the debate on Etch is was the failure of the D in the second half of the season due to 1) rest of the league figured out his schemes or 2) injuries.

In my opinion it's more a systemic problem with the schemes.

option 3: offense couldn't stay on the field and the defence predictably gave up more yards as a result.

Excuses. Like I said earlier, all teams deal with injuries. You can only use that crutch for so long. You think MOS used injuries as an excuse when they lost? I never heard any of that. Just that they have to play better. So, if the players don't get off easy then why should any of the coaches?

If you look at the first quote, pigeye is saying the O had an excuse in injuries....while the defence didn't. The following posts after that are simply answers stating, that if the O can use injuries as an excuse and that's ok in your (pigseye) eye. Then why not the D as well?

I don't like using injuries as excuses either. But they certainly play a factor. As for us not being able to stop the run, if we had converted more field goals into touch downs, we would have forced the other teams to throw rather than run. And it wasn't like we didn't have opportunities to do it, how many times did we settle for 3 in the red zone?

And you know, I agree. He's schemes didn't work a lot of the time and often had me scratching my head. But like I've posted a lot of times before. If the offence could have put up even 10-15 more points in a game. We would have a very different record. How it's the DC's fault for the offences lack of scoring is beyond me.

Also, I don't think only one coordinator can take the blame. Both their systems worked against each other. They didn't compliment each other. But if one has to stay. I'd prefer it be etch.

Like I said in another thread when I posted he was going there the day after he was released, you guys better hope he does fail. If he goes for over 200 yards and is OPOTW - what then? What does that say about our offense?

Any one who watched Grigsby play here knows that it doesn't matter one bit what he does in Hamilton. Guy was too soft and too much of a sissy as a running back to be effective in Winnipeg. It's an easy position to recruit for, why settle for someone who goes down on contact that easy and hesitates before hitting the line of scrimmage? Any scouting department worth it's salt should be able to find runningbacks who can do the job. The fact that Cotton when given the ball looks better should show that Grigsby ain't worth worrying about.

It's only two games, but realistically the guy (Cotton) has had limited reps and it does take some time to get your timing down in game speed, plus the whole offense was a train wreck in Edmonton (for some reason, Willy and the Offense match up extremely poorly against the Edmonton D - 3 points at home in their first game and 3 points in real time, 6 in garbage time, here in Edmonton). I hoping Cotton has another strong game. But.... I'll be watching Grigsby to see if he's a liar (the fact it was 'him' against the world here) or telling the truth.

yeah, I'd chalk it up to the fact that they have a crazy powerful D-line, and we have a shitty offensive line

This but also game planning. How we don't game plan against that is beyond me....no tightend sets...no screens etc etc. MB should take a lot of the blame for that game as far as I'm concerned.

  8. I think the blame is on both sides of the ball. Our Defense seems to be built to play with a lead...but our offence is new, so it's fairly predictable that they would struggle at some point. The offence struggles, the defence gives up some points (which is going to happen no matter how good you are) and everything snow balls....teams run against us to kill the clock....we can't run cause we're down...other teams go hard at the qb....etc etc

It just piles up. I'd prefer to start next year with 2 new coordinators. But if I had to choose one to leave and one to keep. I would keep MB and find a new DC.
