  1. I think this is probably the closest to what will happen.
  2. Then he wouldn't sign here, it's as simple as that. I don't see anybody on the roster or in the ranks of our prospects who can fill Ladd's shoes by 2016-2017. So that means you're dipping into the UFA market. And if you think you're going to get a better player from there, or a better deal, it's just not going to happen. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet on a slightly unfavourable deal when you don't have anyone ready to step up and take their place.
  3. Regardless, I guess it doesn't matter. I agree the flag has a racist meaning. But I don't agree with (and never will agree with) removing any and all art that references the flag. I think we're on the same page on this one.
  4. Well then say bye to Ladd. Jets can have fun with whatever plug gets unearthed in free agency next year to fill his spot. Here's a spoiler, the new player will be worse than Ladd.
  5. Seems like a reasonable question to me. If you are tweeting that his coverage is terrible then you must know what you'd rather see. Silence would be better than bragging about doing nothing. But since you asked ... what would I like to see? Any emphasis on a particular area compared to other days or weeks? They're there every day, they must notice trends (if they were actually watching of course) Kohlert is back from injury after a long layoff - how does he look? Any brace or wrap? Does he look like he's struggling with anything or is he a full go? Paul Friesen just wrote a huge column blasting the Bombers for letting Willy play so soon after a concussion but I've never heard any comments on how he looks - which in this case, I will assume means he looks great because if he didn't, no doubt Friesen would be jumping at the opportunity to say we're mishandling things. Da'rel Scott and Patrick Neufeld just started practicing again this week - what units are they lining up with? Are they seeing any work with the first or second units. Injury updates on Nate Collins or Troy Stoudermire - Stoudermire especially is in that zone where he could be back soon and yet, we haven't heard anything. There was apparently a new guy working with the RB / REC crews last week occasionally - any update on if he's still there or who he is? Is JFG still running with the 1s or are Richards/Bastien stealing any reps after JFG's rough Thursday? Just a start. One of those would be amazing. Well tell Friesen that, not me.

  7. 6 years for ~6 million seems reasonable to me.
  8. Expecting sports journalists to be as passionate about the home team as the most overzealous fanatic is just unreasonable. Maybe someone got into sports writing because they love hockey, but the paper has them covering football. It's not their fault and you can't fake passion. I think the major point was already summed up quite early in this thread. Who else here can say that they would be welcome to go on social media during their work day and gloat about how much work they're not doing? They are there only because outlets want someone on-site in case something major happens. An injury or fight or coach blow-up. Not to live-tweet every detail. In this sense they are doing their job simply by being present.
  9. On one hand that seems silly since the games are about the Civil war. On the other hand, if the games want to be accurate, they're using the wrong flag. If they marched to battle under that flag, then it would be the correct flag to use, no?

  11. I don't know, would it really make a difference if they tweeted out "Denmark just had a great catch." I'm not so sure. What else can they say? They will report on injuries. They're not going to report on plays or formations. They often tweet about who is working with the first team if there is a line-up change. Do you want Friesen tweeting more? Because this is what it will be: "Willy missed a couple receivers on that drive. Looking out of sorts." "Nick Moore just had an ugly drop." "Defensive backs looking sluggish today." Which of course is followed by 16 weeks of posters here telling us that "Moore and Willy are brutal at practice according to reports".
  12. I would like to see the ages of the players and their point production at the time they signed those deals though. ******* Ladd is 29 years old, you don't commit to guys that age for 7 years at that big a ticket, especialyl when some of your teams most interesting prospects are high end talent wingers. You wanna pay Ladd 7 million per year when he's 35 and pushed down the lineup to 3rd line minutes? So let him walk?
  13. Last weekend's show at the MTS Centre was really good, better than the last one that was here. Big crowd and they were really into it.
  14. Demanding that state legislature remove the confederate flag? Reasonable. Censoring art that contains the confederate flag? Political correctness gone wild. Silly, immature, and actually a huge threat to our civil liberty. http://www.macrumors.com/2015/06/25/apple-removes-civil-war-games-confederate-flag/ ^----- PC Gone Wild
  15. I believe that Collins has a real injury and that's the only reason we haven't seen him yet.
  16. Pretty clear divide here. You have one side who is concerned about the health and wellbeing of the players and one side who wants nothing more than to win a football game at all costs. Maybe it's time to re-examine which side you want to be on.
  17. Why would we pull Bucknor out when he's been our best Canadian on defence thus far? If anything, I'm taking out Hurl, Westerman, and Anderson and starting Thomas at DT and Americans at MLB and DE.
  18. Also if the players don't know this stuff then the coaches need to be doing a better job of teaching them. Whether that's MB, Buck, Howell or all of them, they have to coach the players up better.
  19. Interesting, I think those numbers are on the lower side of what he will get. Bump everything up by .25-.5 and I think it's right there.
  20. No one knows. If only there was a profession of experts who spent years studying a specific field...lets call it "medicine" and were then able to be hired to provide their expert opinions to people so that we no longer went through life "unknowing".I get what you're saying. But there is nothing to believe that Willy passed ALL testing, has ZERO symptoms or effects and should still sit out. Why 14 days? Why 8? Why 30? Why not a year? Since this isnt based on any scientific decisions. If he goes through practice with no symptoms, he's good to go. Medicine isn't a static field. They don't know everything, not yet. There are still debates in the medical field regarding concussions and the treatment of concussions. However one thing they all agree upon is this: You can be symptom free and still be concussed. Yeah you're right, 8, 14, 30 days, it's all arbitrary amounts of time. Totally. But it gives a buffer zone, just in case. I think that's the way we are eventually going to go, too, where the league mandates the use of such a buffer zone.
  21. 14 days seems like a nice middle ground. Honestly I would like to go 30 days but you have to draw the line somewhere. Maybe 8 days is enough. But the point is that no one knows. Not even doctors. Every case is different and concussions and post concussion syndrome are not black-and-white diagnoses. By doing it my way, you risk a guy sitting on the bench for a week or two while healthy. By pushing the limits and bringing a guy back as soon as he appears symptom free, you risk a guy getting a serious brain injury. To me it is an easy decision.
  22. I have to agree. Concussion protocols are almost laughably poor. I'm not saying Willy was knocked out or has a concussion, but there is still a ton of work to be done in the field of brain injuries and concussion awareness. Anyone in here making definitive statements about head injuries or concussion protocols is simply trying to make themselves seem more knowledgeable than they actually are. The medical community at large is still looking for answers, they certainly don't exist on a football forum. Willy took a hard shot to the head and it was enough that the medical pros felt it necessary to hold him out of the game. What do you have to lose by holding him our for a week? A football game. What does he have to lose by throwing him back in too early? His mental health, quality of life, and a myriad of other concerns related to concussions. This is why I would err on the side of caution. The risk-reward just doesn't make sense. Again, not saying he has a concussion and not saying the team is being irresponsible. But if it was me in charge, it would be no play for 2 weeks after the last symptom or, if there were no symptoms, the initial hit. No exceptions.
  23. Apparently Brohm still got more reps despite going on the field third. I don't think we will see a definitive change in the order of the backups... Not yet at least.
  24. If you are going to remove the kick for a convert then I would suggest removing it entirely and have the pass/run convert from the 5 be worth only a single point. No reason for it to be worth 2 if there is no single point option. However I enjoy the strategic aspect of choosing to go for one or go for two. The problem is that it wasn't much of a decision anymore so we rarely saw teams go for 2. Now the decision is tougher, generating more discussion and ultimately becoming a far more meaningful part of the game than it ever was before.
  25. The problem is that it wasn't good defence. It was defensive backs mugging the receivers in man coverage. That's not skill and its certainly not entertaining. Skill is being able to stay in coverage without doing that.
