This is true, but as a group our receivers are garbage. Like we got some guys who are solid good receivers, but we don't have a true go to guy and instead of taking that and going 5 deep across the position we've got 3 ok guys and a couple replacement level players. It's just dumb. Then we dress guys like Chris-Ike and Daniels with the idea that we will just go play bully ball, but then wind up trying to pass all the time anyway. Basically we built a team for a Lapo or Pierce style offense and then hired an OC without any idea how to run that.

I'd have a lot more time for this argument if we hadn't seen O'Shea make sub-optimal roster moves for his entire time here. I mean he had to be told to make a move at QB way back and hey, it helped. I like O'Shea but he's shown he can't make the hard choices and tell vets to sit down.

but the fact is Walters built a team that went to 5 straight Grey Cups being a nobody before he got his chance. Sometimes you just gotta give people a chance. I know we all disliked the fact that Jake Thomas the player hung around too long and got too many reps, but so far I have a hard time saying he's been useless as a DL coach. obviously none of us really knows but the defensive line is one area of the team that seems to be getting it's **** together so maybe he's OK as a coach.... honestly I think this is your generational gap where you have this idea that you start at the bottom and work your way up. Not how it really goes these days. These days you identify the good people and give them chances history be damned. again, this discussion isn't about Wheatfall. It's about the fact that we use only 2 americans at skill positions on offence. I had to pause when thinking about that initially because of how ridiculous it is. You can replace a guy like Wheatfall super easily if you want to, but for whatever reason this team decided that they only needed 2 american skill players on offence and then proceeded to NOT draft any offensive skill guys anyway. It just bottles the mind...

Equally as boggling a question as why do we go 3 Americans at linebacker all season when drafting the crap out of the position? There is no cohesion between the roster usage and the acquisition of players by management

Wheatfall is the type of guy you should be easily able to replace from scouting. But we aren't giving anyone a chance. It was ordained from the get go that we use 3 nis at receiver and white and Wilson are the only Americans.

This stupid argument is voided by looking at Smith.. dude kills it every time he gets snaps and he only started because of injury... No one is saying moving pieces makes the team a top team, but it could make us better.... And isn't that the goal? You make moves and improve overall. That's what happened in 2019. They made moves, a lot with in-house pieces and suddenly the defense was ferocious. Just build the roster properly for a start and let's get an accurate picture of what's there. Like if the receivers on the pr aren't better than a bottom of the barrel Canadian guy why are they even in town?

To me it's about trying to fix things in a logical a d systematic way. Team playing bad? Examine the game plans and preparation, if that doesn't work try moving the pieces you have around, if none of that works then you get on the GM to find some good players. O'Shea has tried nothing and we got people here continuing to blame the GM... Like we got other issues to examine first.

The point is, O'Shea doesn't use options he has, so what difference does signing someone new make? I agree that Kyle Walters needs to slap some sense into O'Shea to make changes when things don't work but can we please stop pretending that it's all a talent issue and nobody can possibly be better than what they're rostering now?

Blah blah blah this same talent nonsense. There are those of us have been screaming for Smith to start all season.... You see why, gonna pretend it's only because he was less talented? We have some talent gaps sure, but the roster construction and usage doesn't get the most out of what they DO have.

Smith is not only one of our best linebackers he's one of our best Canadians. Absolutely criminal that he's not a full time starter. We draft all these linebackers and they want to go with a million Americans, we draft 0 receivers and think we can play 3 Canadians there. Make it make sense

Know what I would do? Drop elsbury, start Eli at C and have vanterpool as the 6th OL. No need for a 7th ok. Just use the pieces you have properly.

No we don't need that many linebackers either. Our receiver depth is both lacklustre and paper thin.

Honestly we used to dress 7 ol and I hated it. Was a waste of a roster spot. Like what purpose does that extra ol serve other than in case of injury? But if you lose 2 ol in a game you're probably hooped anyway.
