The "trust me bro" proof isn't really the best argument for drastic changes to a sport that's over 130 years old. If you're going to attack a CFL legend you'd think you'd have something substantial to actually say. The reality is there is no proof that the changes in 2027 will increase scoring because it hasn't been trialed at all. NFL wouldn't do something like this. With changes they made to kickoffs it took years of trials in spring leagues and NFL pre-season to gather data to make a decision.

But how soft are the hands?

Tim White has been top 10 yards per catch every year of his CFL career. Even as he's been the most targeted receiver in the league in a couple of those seasons. No one is going to be a gamebreaker in this Trestman Jr West Coast training wheels offense.

The entire point of my post is why this doesn't help Fajardo's case for MOP. Alexander is the fulcrum of the best offense in the league (which is nominally the offense he inherited from Fajardo, who has never thrown for 20 TD's in a season). Fajardo is 3rd worst redzone QB, 3rd worst in turnovers behind only Kelly and Maier for QB's who have started this season. His running back is leading the league in big plays (30+ from scrimmage) by a long shot. Fajardo is a firmly mid pack CFL starting QB. He's having a good season, not an outstanding one. Just had a career game, granted. If you took a poll of CFL players and coaches, I'd bet exactly 0 would pick Fajardo as the guy they want at QB in a winner take all game. Nobody plays man, nobody in the secondary can tackle.

Yeah we signed 2 of the 4 top free agent receivers that ended up not re-signing with their own teams. My concern is a lot deeper with recruitment.

Reverse to Pimpleton right at him, Moxey kind of steps up to turn Pimpleton in, as soon as Gosselin reaches his inside shoulder Moxey starts running away from the play and gives up 7 yards on a play that's a loss if he just keeps his leverage. Quit on the 2 pt play to Lewis in OT. They iso'd him a bunch of times and he still just took 15 yard drops even though there's only one route on his side of the field He's a major liability for us. Ottawa ate us alive with their field WR (Moxey) as their main target. Rarely see that. But he sure will break out in dance when someone on his side of the field drops a ball.

No way. Fajardo is nowhere near as consistent as Alexander or Harris. Edmonton has trouble scoring points even with the offensive production they have. Through the first 1/3 of the season they were tied with us and Ottawa last for red zone efficiency. Edmonton has the best overall pass defense in the league, otherwise they'd have lost 3-4 games already. They've been doing a high wire act to win games and they've run out of games vs BC and Ottawa. Wouldn't be surprised if they finish up at 9-10 wins even though they are 6-1 now.

Also need to hit them vertical. Can use the bullshit West Coast stuff to get their feet locked and looking downhill but we need a vertical breakout. Calgary is very vulnerable.

Holm is probably the best man cover guy in the league. Would be nice to see him in a scheme a lot more focused on that than trying to guess which route is coming. You could have him and Cam Allen lock down the boundary.

That is a big part of it...blame. Go against the regular flow and don't succeed, you're a moron.

It was mostly covering deep third or quarters. They picked him apart vertically, struggled with locking in on intermediate routes on bad reads, getting caught with dead feet. They know how to mix him up and he doesn't adjust. Really the biggest danger against VA. He can't be consistently accurate in the intermediate. So don't get beat deep, don't blitz him, let him rot in the pocket.

Stamps have torn Kelly a 2nd and 3rd ******* the last two times he's played against them (last year and this year in Calgary). Expect him to be targeted and isolated again.

The orthodoxy either way is the problem. The 2 point converts should be used tactically. The problem is coaches tend to be on one side or the other. I've been in clinics in the States with the Arkansas HS guy who didn't punt. Then there's schools in Texas and other states doing it. No one has really done it here yet (Canadian Football is a lot different tactically IMO when it comes to special teams). It's kind of remarkably stupid as a theory. Like the reasons why it worked were kind of ignored. Some of these places have 3-5 star recruits across the board. Their margin for error and making back negative points is quite high. The real strategy is just trying to get the most possessions possible. All factors are not always equal. I can't get to the place of almost completely ignoring game situation, not playing defense.

By 0.2 of a point in aggregate. So basically no difference aside from the 0.1 risk of missing the kick in aggregate. 90% to get 1 point, just over 50% to get 2. Again, no accounting for game situation. Down 1 with 5 seconds left, go for 2 (coin flip) vs go for 1 (90%) to get into OT with more plays, more chances to win. Should be going for 2 more. But that data doesn't really give the meaning to that cause (always go for 2) that DT thinks.

The flaw in the theory is you're directly playing another team. Not simply to score the most points possible and put up a score like golf. Total points matter less than finishing with 1 more point than the other team.

I think they are pretty fluid. The big money guys have been all over the position grid based on opportunity. I mean the obvious one right now is Broxton vs guys on rookie deals at RT.

I will say that I agree with going for 2 point converts a lot more. Seems to mostly be very situational....like do it when you need to late in the 4th Q to tie. If you come out first offensive drive of the game and drive right down the field for 6, why wouldn't you go for the extra point (2 point convert) on the D that's already on it's heels? It's also the lowest risk time to take that risk. You have a ton of time to get the point back if you don't convert.

That data actually kind of harms the point he's trying to make. It's not that wide of a difference and it's not exactly controlled as the 2 point tries are the outliers....meaning D are also less prepared to defend 2 point plays. The data could even out if everyone went for 2 all the time and everyone was prepared for it. Most times now when it happens the D is half subbed off the field, has to get back out there etc. The other piece is looking at it in aggregate vs game situations. A lot of data out of American Football would tell you that you would score more points in aggregate if you never punted too. But how would you apply that to game situations? You're going to go for it on 3rd and 8 from your own 25 yard line all the time? Give the other team the ball in the redzone a bunch of times?

And he explains this basically every free agency period. If you spend above average in one position, obviously you have less to spend somewhere else.

He literally almost cost them a game they led by 3 TD's with a fumble and not catching kickoffs last week. The Bombers lead the league in big play returns with 6. Pay ******* attention if you going to try to fire hot takes.
