  1. Burmeister intrigues me. He was a decent QB at a fairly high level (ACC). Started for Oregon as a freshman so just on raw talent there's something there. He just converted to receiver with Rams last year. Kind of wondering if they are looking at him in both spots....or even just QB. He must really have NFL dreams to come up here as a receiver because I have no doubt he could play QB in the UFL based on some of the guys playing there.
  2. All the combine testing does is show who is serious about moving to the next level. If you're an OL walking into a combine where you can't do 20 reps of 225....you're showing that you're not willing (or able) to do the work to be a pro. Now if you have tremendous film you'll probably get a chance to prove that wrong. If the film is meh, the testing is meh, the on field stuff is meh, you're done.
  3. It's done after this season. A big chunk of that league will be gone. Will basically be a GTA and Vancouver/Victoria league. The model they are working under makes it impossible for the league to grow. It's part of the whole Canada Soccer fiasco.
  4. I don't think the hyphenated name guy would be a crazy pick at 8 overall as a running back. Kind of a hybrid guy.
  5. Hergel won't be up here either. I think we'll be picking mostly from players who attended the combine.
  6. The only way Dublanko isn't the first overall pick is if he dies (Ottawa might still trade up for him though) or it's revealed he's got a bunch of skeletons in his closet. He's quite likely the best player and for certain the best player who won't be in a NFL camp of the players available.
  7. Blaise Bryant. Hell of a back. Wrecked his knee in the second to last game 94. Underrated reason for the playoff flameout that year vs Baltimore. He was a great receiving back that year too, like 120 yards from scrimmage per game type back. Played a couple more years but was busted up...and best QB those couple years was Reggie Slack. They started about 8 different guys. The end of Cal Murphy's run. In 94 they went to Keith Woodside who was a washed up NFLer to replace Bryant for playoffs. I'm pretty sure Dunigan hated him, no chemistry anyway. Totally ****** up that offense which was one of best in CFL history for the playoffs.
  8. Unemployment. Was at Arizona State as OC and head coach took away playcalling. Left at end of season.
  9. I can't even believe Hamilton was in that deep on Brady. Makes no sense to me. So many better ways for them to use that money.
  10. Chisari is a guy who would fit here. Has tailback skills. Showed really well in the 1 on 1's vs LB's/DB's. He'd be a guy the D would have to count, not like a Jackson or these FB's who can't move. Would be up gaining the blocking skills and special teams. Between him, Augustine, the receivers and a 6th OL you'd think you'd have any "fullback" reps covered in terms of bringing in extra blockers to backfield or edge.
  11. Put up terrible numbers for speed and agility. Doubt he plays offense in the CFL. Better be good at special teams.
  12. Nah, Benedet, Adams, Wallace and Hergel are legit NFL prospects. Pretty likely the first two are drafted and potentially fairly early. The NCAA guys at the combine have all tested pretty average to below average. A few of the FCS and D2 guys did ok. Like Nkanu, Washington State. Brutal. If he doesn't dominate the live reps he's going to drop like crazy, not like it matters that much as long as someone drafts you.
  13. Chris-Ike too for backs. I think if you want a FB you're better off taking one of those guys and seeing if you can teach them how to block. Herzog would probably have to transform himself into a Demski/Coombs type player. The FB's from U Sports are basically OL. Mital might end up being more of an H-Back type too. Not many 6' 230 lb receivers around.
  14. A lot of the DB's will be LB's in the CFL at this combine. Some of the LB's will be edge types. DB's and WR's showed pretty good. There were only 2 receivers who ran 4.7 or worse. See what they look like in battle drills. I feel like Ajou Ajou is a guy that might fall right out of this draft. Think there's a crew there that will be long-term CFLers. OL group at combine is pretty poor. But most of the top 7-8 guys aren't there. Dumoulin Duguay is a guy I could see us picking in Round 1.
  15. Will be interesting to see what Mital runs and tests for agility at combine. He's about 15-20 pounds heavy.
  16. Only thing I'd do for kickoffs is not allow the cover guys to move vertically until the ball is kicked. Would open up returns a bit and reduce speed of collisions. Not a fan of the XFL setup. Think you can accomplish the same thing but still allow a wedge.
  17. I hope despite Bennett and Schmekel they realize they still need DL from this draft. Because there's a handful of really good ones. Athletic, rush end types and 3 tech types...some who played end in U Sports/NCAA. Need to replace Hansen/Maruo too not in terms of Global status but their reps.
  18. Almost none of those guys played fullback in U Sports. That's kind of the point Hodge is missing too. Teams convert big receivers, tailbacks or guys who played D over. The guys playing FB in U Sports aren't pro level athletes. There's not a lot of futures guys anymore with the eligibility changes and I don't think they'd prefer that anyway. Our Canadian depth is extremely light right now. They need to get 4-5 immediate players at least out of this draft...guys who can be on the roster and guys who can fill in off PR. Otherwise they'll be dumpster diving to backfill the bottom third of the roster.
  19. Don't think either of those guys play up here tbh. That's the big issue with this draft, especially considering how big NFL PR's now and no limits on it in terms of tenure. Guy can bounce around PR's for a decade.
  20. Don't think Bombers will draft too much for positional need in this one since there are a lot of great players in the draft. But it will be heavy on OL/DL, LB/DB, receiver. I expect almost all their picks in the first half of the draft to be from these position groups. See what combine looks like but doesn't look like any viable tailbacks in the crew, couple guys that might get converted into FB/TE types. Not much use in drafting a guy that's played FB in U Sports and runs like a lineman.
  21. It is funny though because the extra Canadian is used for some flexibility and you could easily use the nationalized rule to give you more flexibility in case of injury. It's actually incredibly stupid to not use it even if you don't plan on functionally using it for substitutions....you can have it in your back pocket in case you get some injuries.
  22. Pigrome was ******* awful in Ottawa. He had more than one game where he had multiple turnovers on short-yardage. Don't think the Bombers would sign him, honestly don't think anyone in the CFL will. He's probably headed to arena ball.
  23. Agreed. But we've got very little out of the drafts in general. I'm not as confident in the ability to run 3 imports on the OL and not force a significant drop off on D if needed. They'll have to really hit a couple home runs in this upcoming draft. It's deep but also deep in guys that might take awhile to get here.
