  1. That game was a heartbreaker. I really wanted to see Hufnagel start in a Grey Cup -- he was a good soldier backup all those years.
  2. Kicking was so bad back in the day. Kennard had a couple of seasons of <60% kicking and was always invited back. Bernie Ruoff had a 50% year and a 40% year (!) early in his career but his career survived. I think it was around the turn of the millennium when the top kickers started regularly hitting 80%.
  3. Watching games from back in the day, it's astonishing the big hits that a QB was expected to absorb ... especially a guy like Hufnagel who played from the pocket a lot. Like, check this play out, Huffer gets obliterated after he throws a gorgeous deep pass to Tuttle. No penalty, he bounces right back up. Those guys were tough back then. It's so awesome to have access to these old games, you can really see how the game has changed over the years. It seems like it was around 2004-2005 when the CFL started making rules to try to keep quarterbacks alive.
  4. oh hell yeah, I've been feasting on old CFL during this long stupid offseason. Just watched this one last weekend. Edmonton was the first victim of our 1984 championship run. We absolutely demolished them.
  5. I listened to that game on the radio and I can still hear the Bob Irving call. "He dropped it. He. Just. Dropped. It." edit: found the play on youtube:
  6. edit: it's been said already, no value in piling on further.
  7. Lions signed Dolegala yesterday. https://www.si.com/cfl/fannation/news/bc-lions-sign-contract-former-saskatchewan-roughriders-jake-dolegala?utm_source=reddit.com I'm in the "maybe he's got upside?" camp so I think this is a decent signing for them.
  8. will he wind up anywhere? Is there any money left out there for him? Maybe it'll be a storybook Clarence Denmark kinda thing where he comes back to us midseason as an injury replacement and tears it up. that would be a bummer because it means one of our battleship receivers is on the sidelines but man would I be pumped for a Sheed comeback in blue.
  9. Sean Thomas Erlington to Montreal. Als going national at RB with Antwi and STE?
  10. love me some big Stan but I think the very first piece of the turnaround was the 2013 Alex Hall for Neufeld trade. Hall put up seven sacks for the Roughriders in nineteen games. In return, we got a Canadian OL starter for a decade. I think that was Walters' first trade. Nice debut.
  11. Anyone who's got the pride and drive to succeed at this level is gonna have serious feelings when the day comes to shut er down. His onfield contributions are what matters to me, not his exit interview. Thanks for being a great Bomber, Mr. Jeffcoat.
  12. good catch. I thought Tate was recruited by the Stamps, but yeah he was a Roughrider originally.
  13. I got curious.... In the last twenty years, the only Calgary QBs who were not first recruited into the league by the Stamps were Glenn in 2012-2013 and McManus in 2006. that's a pretty amazing run of homegrown QBs.
  14. each video links to a different play. it's just that the preview doesn't show that.
  15. Here's some great Tom Clements moments. (they're cued up to different plays even tho the preview shows the same video.) This game broke my heart as a kid. We would've won this game and played in the 83 Grey Cup if Clements hadn't jacked up his shoulder in the second quarter.
  16. Have been watching a lot of Clements games lately on Youtube and it's shocking how much he and Collaros have the same style -- extending plays, throwing pinpoint passes on the run, turning sacks into first downs. He just saw the field so well and could process the game so quickly. He didn't have any kind of breakaway speed and wasn't going to win any footraces but the dude was a buttered eel in the pocket. I'm gonna go vintage for my next jersey too. Either BATTLE 34 or JONES 35. Gotta give some love to those eighties linebackers.
  17. I'm looking forward to a heck of a training camp battle between Bede and incumbent long snapper Peter Adjey (Queens)
  18. hmmm. I think Harris vs. Macbeth is a wash and I'd take Harris over Maier. plus I got serious doubts about Ottawa's situation. Masoli is broken, Brown promising but unproven, Crum and Adams both flashes in the pan (so far).
  19. Stanback released this morning.
  20. I ran the numbers awhile ago and a CFL team will need to start 8-12 different receivers in the course of a season. I think that Calgary needed something like 13 in a recent year when they had a real bad run of injuries. You just need a lot of receivers in this league.
  21. I agree that Jimmy John's sucks ass from a quality perspective but they get your sandwiches out fast. when I was working my worst job and had regular days fulla meetings that five minute turnaround time was sometimes the difference between eating and not.
  22. I never get worked up about QB signings. They're all good QBs at the college level, we wouldn't sign them otherwise, but the odds are so stacked against them. Few of them will be both good enough to make the leap and lucky enough to get the right opportunity at the right time to make that leap.
  23. If Walters managed to get a draft pick for a guy who wasn't signed sealed and delivered, I will be embarrassed for the redblacks. man, we've come a long way from the days of the redblacks expansion draft. Ten years ago they couldn't even find anyone worth drafting on our roster. now we are supplying them with QBs.
  24. so when the Bombers did the Jade Etienne / Drew Willy pre-FA trade in 2014 they signed Willy the same day as they got his rights. It'll be interesting to see how quickly the redblacks sign him -- would they have made this deal without assurances from Brown's people that Brown would sign with Ottawa?
  25. of course Bruce IV was a Chris Jones signing.
