  2. Ukraine & Russia produce 1/4 of the world"s wheat. That is an ENORMOUS impact on the global economy. Yes, you can find wars that had less impact, absolutely
  3. Incorrect. It's both. Wars cause inflation - always have, always will.
  4. The salaries for this past school year were negotiated based on COLA, because most school divisions didn't give any other improved working conditions, they had to give more $$. Some now don't have the funding to pay that cost of living adjustment, which we all know is through the roof.
  5. Some schools have removed Little House on the Prairie from their libraries - I disagree with that.
  6. @WildPath I did not. I usually attend/present for Social Studies at SAGE. @Mark F yes I am very familiar with Hearne and a whole pile of other fur trade history. His journals were transcribed by David Thompson.
  7. I don't have time to read until July rolls around - tired eyes by the time marking, planning and other screen time is done for the day Some books that I have read myself or with students, that particularly stood out: Night by Elie Wiesel The Snow Goose by Paul Gallico The Pearl by John Steinbeck Towards a Prairie Atonement by Trevor Herriott Under the Ribs of Death by John Marilyn The Giver by Lois Lowry Who Has Seen the Wind by W.O. Mitchell Any historic books by Gordon Goldsborough. Tons of other classics that you will already know about.
  8. You couldn't pay me enough - to be the speaker right now.
  9. I have made a point of watching question period for a number of years. The behaviour of the current group of Conservatives is ridiculous.
  10. Als do have a better OL than the Riders - so the Faj might make a few more plays The irony in all this: Harris had a not to bad season last year, and both he and the Als would be better off, if he had stayed
  11. I like Popeye's, but this stuff is 10 minutes from my doorstep
  12. I would like to see this happen. I think they have the receivers / OL to make it work. Trestman / Calvillo proved it can be done, and done well.
  13. That's a first rate local store - hope it stays open for a long time. 6 pack of Fort Garry and an order of Chester Fried - for the win!
  14. Unions open with an amount they know is not achievable, to discourage the employer from going to arbitration Arbitration rulings are based on the opening package, not on what has already been agreed to Every public sector does have a set maximum amount, sometimes that is publicized / shared with the union, some times it isn't The purpose of starting with a 'big ask' is that it allows you to achieve improved working conditions - it's a bargaining chip
  15. The article does outline what he was charged with.
  16. ^^ This would be funnier if students weren't actually trying it.
  17. Sure was. Matty is who made me a life long Bomber fan. Started following the team in the early 90's, & never stopped.
  18. Where did you read this?
  19. Except that Vegas is currently having their way with a team - that has some of the highest paid players in the league.
  20. I have never understood thinking and statements like 'it is now wide open' - many media pundits love saying that. Fact: the teams that eliminate the favourites, must be pretty solid competitors too.
  21. The kind of stuff is beyond the pale and not what I was referring to at all. The leaders call the shots. Most voters base a higher percentage of their vote on the leader.
  22. I would make the same bet about the Liberals across the aisle.
  23. I watched some of those question periods on the Chinese interference / threats issue - it got hot and heavy Joly and Mendicino were quite worried about economic blow back and other sanctions from China It sounds like Chong is very much respected on both sides of the house - intelligent and thoughtful One has to wonder...why he is not considered leadership material? That is totally fair. I just have a problem with how the denouncing is often done.
  24. This is not a good place for me to comment on the specific examples that you cited. Feel free to PM me if you'd like. Some progressives are working on change. Denouncing people who we view to be not progressive enough - is not productive nor progressive - it is not an educational approach. That's where I differ with many of you on here - at least based on the way you post - which is admittedly about all that I know about you. My foundational tenet is the Sermon on the Mount and also the two chapters that follow it. This is also the foundation of my faith community.
