  1. Totally agree. I hope people keep things in perspective as the season goes along. O'Shea and Walters have their hands full when it comes to righting the ship. It won't be done in a single season but I sincerely believe they have the right people in key positions to make a positive impact on this franchise.
  2. Really tough for a guy who was playing hard and looking to make an impact for our team this season. Best wishes on a full and speedy recovery.
  3. But, outside his passport, does Messam bring more to the table than any of our current running backs? Change of pace to a guy like Cotton? Absolutely. Would he be the primary back in our offensive? Not likely. I agree that he wouldn't be the primary back, but what he brings is 6'3" 245 lbs with experience carrying the ball. Cotton is 5'9" Volny is 5'10" I wouldn't break the bank for Messam, but if they can make the numbers work, he's worth a look. That's the rub though .. you're probably going to have to pay a premium to bring Messam in .. (at least when compared to the guys currently on our roster - NI vet RB vs. Ford .. Grigsby .. Cotton) .. so the question then becomes .. is a NI battering ram worth the cost when.. realistically .. he's only going to play a handful of snaps .. or conversely .. because you shelled out money to acquire the "name" non-import .. are you going to want him to see the field more often than not .. does the drop off in production justify the price of admission? I'm not suggesting Messam would be ineffective or that it's not worth kicking the tires .. just tossing out things that go through my mind when I look at our roster and our offense.

  7. At 11 yards a clip .. Teams are going to run on us until we can stop it ..
  8. Ugly knee injury blocking on a return. Broken ankle/leg from the looks of it. They had an air cast on his lower leg, weren't really looking at his knee. Better a break than ligament / tendon issues ..

  10. Will sum up my thoughts this way .. Goddamnit .. I hate seeing this team piss away wins .. Preseason or not .. A win would have been nice
  11. Said it in another thread but it's worth repeating here: this defence .. our run D in particular .. doesn't paint our unconventional defensive coordinator in the best light .. certainly doesn't do much to build confidence in the man .. It's early .. All I can hope for is improvement ..

  13. Same was said of Kamau while he was here but he managed to turn in a few very good season in Edmonton.
  14. The problem with Hall isn't a lack of arm strength .. the problem with Hall is that he puts too much trust in an arm that's barely suited to the CFL field .. you don't need a cannon to succeed .. but you do have to play within yourself and be smart with how you attack your opponent .. sometimes you see him trying to force balls in windows or make throws he's only barely able to complete.
  15. With Mack, Pencer, Etienne and Poblah now gone, what are we going to argue about? Poblah was a pretty silly argument to have anyway, everyone and their dog agreed that he was a prospect well worth using a first rounder on and if he was in the draft he likely was the #1 pick. Just happened that the guy couldn't translate all those physical tools into anything of substance. Exactly. Sometimes a pick is bad because you don't do your homework. (Pencer) And then sometimes a pick is bad just because they can't figure it out. (Poblah) Poblah was about as surefire of a choice as there was coming out of college. Hell, he was being recruited as an import before his eligibility was established. Remember how dominant he was in training camp the first year he was here? I remember Jovon Johnson saying he's as tough a matchup one on one as he had ever faced in practice. And then as it turned out, he sucked when the lights came on. And, I think part of it is just how inconsistently we use our NI skill position players .. we draft guys like Volny and Woodson .. and there's no real plan to use these guys (this is a pet peeve of mine) .. Poblah was a great prospect but perhaps he just never found his niche in the offense because of how he was used .. just tossing it out there for the sake of discussion .. I *DO* hope the guy succeeds .. has the physical tools to make a career of it ..
  16. Best part of this new forum .. being able to ignore individual posters .. unfortunately as a mod .. I can't do that ..
  17. I don't think the "hate on" for Pencer would be as pronounced had Mack not squandered additional assets in acquiring him. Yes .. teams have first round busts .. happens all the time in the CFL .. but .. targetting a player in a trade up .. then missing out on that player .. was a mess in and of itself. Then you add on the fact that the guy we settled on couldn't carry Walby's jock strap .. and understandably .. angst will run high.
  18. Woodson was valuable in that he netted us a NI-OL (who subsequently retired) and a third round pick in this years draft .. yes .. we had to give up our 5th .. but I think that still puts us ahead .. heh.
  19. The weakness in the offensive line was exposed when you had two, relatively immobile guys in Hall and Brohm behind center. Marve was able to challenge the defense with his legs a bit and made them look better than they actually were .. that said .. there was a significant drop off in that unit's performance as the game went on (guys moving in and out) .. it was much more noticable for Winnipeg than it was Toronto.
  20. It's almost comical how many guys are injured so far .. football gods aren't loving us Bomber fans. edit: BTW gbill .. thanks for all the updates!
  21. I know it's preseason and I know Etch doesn't want to tip his hand .. but honestly .. watching the Argos run on us (at will) on Monday night made me cringe .. Agreed. Especially in the flats. Because that's where Owens and Durie (and now probably Coombs) make a living. This is where I thought Unamba (and our linebackers in general) struggled .. 1/4 of all passes the Argo QBs completed were to RBs .. every single pass was caught (7/7 on passes to running backs for 66 yards .. nearly 9.5 a reception) .. the backs also accounted for 3 majors and about half of Toronto's total offense (around 48%) .. it didn't inspire a lot of confidence in a coordinator who has been seen as a somewhat unconventional guy ..

  23. Which of his tweets today can be considered trolling? He's giving his opinion, which is pretty much his job. I honestly can't figure out what point Turner is trying to make so I can't say if he's trolling or now. Somehow the Bombers not making their stadium loan payment is a reason the players should have gotten more from the league? Or something? And the league isn't fragile beacause they're expanding and building new stadiums... right. Try not building those stadiums and then will the league be fragile enough for you? It's not like owners / the league are paying for those new digs either. Government funding played a big role in getting these buildings done.
  24. And that's why he's a terrible journalist .. too busy trying to 'create news' vs. reporting news. I'll give him credit for being ontop of the CBA process but this just reaks of him being an attention *****.
