  1. Correct. Petan needs to either make the big club or go back down to juniors. It is a shame because at his size, I don't think he will make the Jets next year, can see him needing some seasoning in the AHL to get used to a more physical game. But he doesn't have anything left to prove in juniors.
  2. It is the same for me. Works on my phone. Hopefully Shaw pushes the updates soon. (And mts if it isn't working there either) The quotes in IE was a separate fix. Managed to find a patch for that a few days ago. Thanks all for your patience.
  3. We should be back online. Was a fun night. Don't think I'll be doing this again anytime soon unless I absolutely have to. Let me know if you see any issues with the site.
  4. I believe it is going to be 198.89.125.8
  5. What am I supposed to do at work tomorrow? Work? It should be back up by the time you get to work. In the extreme case, it may take that long.
  6. I'm going to be taking the site down around midnight tonight. I'm going to be migrating it to a new hosting provider. DNS settings are going to have to change and propagate throughout the web. This may take up to 48 hours. Hopefully the downtime is a lot less then that and when everyone wakes up tomorrow you don't notice any difference. But if not, this is the reason.
  7. How does this money diversion scheme work? I'm not following. I could be wrong, but I think it's all about directing page views. Someone with more knowledge of how it works can probably correct me, but on websites, every view of a page with an ad on it = money. More page views = more money, so if a website is basically directing traffic to visit another website, it's all about creating as many page views as possible to maximize revenue. That's not the deal I was offered, but I think that's how what TUP is referring to works. Not quite page views, but add clicks. However, typically the more traffic you have, the more page views you get, the more clicks you get, so it works out to the same thing.
  8. I thought only the first round was on TSN with the remainder on TSN.ca. Could be, I checked the guide on the TV last night, and thought it said the first two rounds. Either way, there is an hour of coverage, 7 - 8 I believe.
  9. First two rounds will also be televised on TSN tonight. Don't remember it being televised before. Good to see the CFL draft getting a little more love.
  10. Your projections are overly optimistic. How so? Are you disputing the reported numbers? We made a $3M profit in a year where we had transition costs to a new stadium, severance packages to pay, increased transit costs. It is a fact TV revenues are going up. We also had a horrible on field product. And while season ticket numbers were up, I believe we only had 2 sellouts last year. When is the last time this team made $3M in a year where we didn't host the Grey Cup? Show me your math.
  11. Let's discuss a few things from people claiming the Bombers will never pay a dime back to the taxpayers. There was a 3M profit this year. There was 1M paid for severance packages. When the new TSN deal kicks in, the Bombers are estimated to make an additional 2M from that. So far we are up to 6M profit, lets use that as revenue / profit streams going forward. Lets not even factor in reduce transit costs next year, and lets assume also that the sale of the new corporate seats of whatever they are that Lawless is talking about offsets any reduction in season tickets. Lets also ignore any one time costs we paid last year for the moving and opening of the new Stadium. So, based on what we know, the Bombes are allowed to sock away 500k before making their mortgage payments. That leaves 5.5M that they can use to payoff a 4.5M payment. So thats an additional 1M that can be used for increased operating expenses (more coaches, cap going up, etc). Lets also not factor in revenue from events like the soccer game that was just played, concerts (this would offset year to year from what they made on them last year), NHL outdoor games, Grey Cups, etc. Lets consider those gravy and to be used to stabilize income year to year when they team has good years and bad. Even if we had to make a payment this year, while we wouldn't be able to make the 4.5M payment ,we would still be able to pay 2.5M. In 10 years from now, assuming season tickets and concessions revenue continue to rise year to year, that 4.5M a year payment isn't going to look too bad at all. Did the Bombers get a sweetheart deal to get the stadium built? Yes, absolutely. Are they going to be able to make payments towards it? Yes, absolutely. Maybe not as fast as some people would like, but payments will be made.
  12. When you consider the Bombers are supposed to repay 4.5M every year going forward for the stadium, don't think this will give the CFLPA all that much leverage for this year. If you take into account the reported 1M for paying off salaries of fired staff and the 2M more they will receive from the TV deal, that gives a potential 6M in profit going forward. Reduced transit prices and drop in ticket revenue may bring that number up or down, probably up if the reported higher sales of corporate seats is true. Will those numbers give the CLFPA leverage? I really don't think so. The CFLPA is not a strong union. The CFL is not the highest attainable level of football. And because of that, replacement players are plentiful without a huge drop in talent. In fact, with all the new stadiums being built, and new the TV deal the CFL cannot afford to lose this season. While some may think that gives the CFLPA leverage, I believe it is the opposite. If they strike, the ratio rules will be waived for the season, and that is the most dangerous thing for Canadian players. Because once gone there is a danger the NI spots just don't come back.
  13. Let look at a couple of the currently successful teams and recent stanley cup winners in the NHL: Chicago Blackhawks (the organization Chevy really likes to model himself after): Didn't qualify for the playoffs from from 02/03 to 07/08 before finally making the playoffs in 08/09 and being there ever since. Boston Bruins: Didn't make the playoffs from 04/05 to 06/07 before finally making the playoffs and being there every since in 07/08 Pittsburgh Penguins: Missed the playoffs from 01/02 to 05/06 before finally making the playoffs and being there ever since St Louis Blues: Made the playoffs only once between 05/06 to 10/11. And have made the playoffs ever since. LA Kings: Missed the playoffs from 02/03 to 08/09 and have made the playoffs ever since The Jets were an absolute mess of a franchise when they came to Winnipeg. There was no prospects, everything had been traded away to try and simply get into the playoffs. Most sports are cyclical. It doesn't matter if it was Chevy who was GM or anyone else, this franchise wasn't making the playoffs these passed 3 years. There was nothing to trade that would have made us a contender to get into the playoffs. The 3 - 5 year building plan is not a myth, is not a conspiracy theory to placate fans. It is reality. There are very few teams that can continuously make the playoffs while they reload (hello Detroit). What the difficult part is, is that if you have chosen unwisely in who is leading you, you extend that period out. We won't know if the choice on Chevy was a wise one of not for another couple of years. However for now, jury is still out. I do however believe that this team is better today then what we inherited from Atlanta.
  14. Let's not forget that Etienne was a FA this off season. It is entirely possible that the current regime did like him and did try to re-sign him but he opted to wait for free agency. In this case we traded him before we got nothing for him.
  15. Agree with this. While I went to every game last season, I can't remember any other year where I was ready to leave by half time most games (never actually left). The games were just not entertaining and you knew the team had no chance to win by half time.
  16. Do you have these stats from the other teams as well? Curious what the comparables are in terms of how many players drafted, positions, and retention.
  17. It has been a while since last season so my memory may be a bit fuzzy on this, but it seems to me that by the end of the year there more school buses being used then transit buses. Is this cost lumped in for all of the buses they use or just the transit?
  18. And people rag on Lawless for being a columnist instead of a reporter... Nate, this post is about as slanted as they come. What's your interest with Rabb? Secondly, if the City of Winnipeg has a seat on the BoD, shouldn't they want an inside person on that seat? To me, it should raise alarm bells that Katz is appointing someone who is not a municipal employee... in what could be his walk year from the mayor's chair. The optics are terrible in appointing what looks like a Katz buddy... Honestly, even if Rabb would make a great BoD member, he shouldn't be the City of Winnipeg's representation unless he has ties to the City. He doesn't have any interest in Rabb. It is the fact that the Bombers don't want him that Nate has interest in him. If the Bombers were welcoming him with open arms, then the rhetoric would be about the Bombers old boys club being back in play. That a business man instead of a civil servent is representing the city. Don't you know that anyone in the Jets or Bombers organizations are either incompetent, vermin, or 2nd rate. So anything they do is wrong, and anything they don't want to do... they should be doing. Keep that in mind, and you will understand pretty much all of his posts.
  19. Unfortunately if he doesn't make the big club next year (and at his size, I can't see him making the Jets), he will have to go back to the WHL for one more year. It's too bad, because I think he needs to start playing against the next tier of opponents to see if he can handle the size of the professional game. Doesn't have much left to prove in the WHL. He is probably 2 - 3 years out before we see him as a regular on the Jets.

  21. Cleaned up a few posts in here. Lets try to keep this on topic and not resort to insulting other posters. Deleted the insults, then the follow posts on the insults because those just didn't make sense anymore. So if your post is gone, that is why.
  22. Wasn't Perry Pearn also let go wit Noel? Wonder if they will bring in someone new to replace him.
  23. Because wrestlers have never contradicted themselves week to week in wrestling Wrestling is all about make believe drama and the story. Whatever sells. Whether it is in ring for the current story line or a DVD to sell. At least at the end, whatever issues HHH had with the warrior, he was able to forgive and not trash the guy after his death.
