Teemu's jersey
I'm not sure we'll ever see the retro Jets jersey in action. True North has tried to distance themselves from it as much as possible. Even the employees who pick people for on-ice contests are told not to select fans wearing the old jersey. I agree it won't happen anytime soon. But in another 10 years and the novelty of the Jets being back has completely worn off and they've established the new brand ... The money to be made on retro jerseys will be too big for them to refuse.

Teemu's jersey
They won't retire numbers but the Jets have hinted that they may honour former players at some point. Hull, Hawerchuk, Steen, Selanne all come to mind. My guess is they don't do this until attendance starts to slump, and use it to sell the place out. Same with the retro Jets jersey.

Garcia to Als
For me it is not even practice. The guy is 44 years old. What happens the first time he takes a devastating sack from someone like Odell Willis. Would he even be able to get up and keep playing at a high level after that. I am just turning 40 this year, and no I am not a professional athlete nor do I train like one, but you do notice the aches pains and extended recovery time more and more. There is a reason why most athletes can't make it into their late 30s, never mind mid-forties. And even if he does play effectively this year, how many more years can he play in Montreal. Past this year? Montreal needs to find their QB of the future. Playing Garcia will just delay that, and I don't believe he can lead them to a Grey Cup, so what would be the point of playing him. Take your lumps now, and find your future.

Is Kent Austin the most "hated" coach in the league?
I've been curious about this too. What happens when the team goes on an extended losing streak. We won't really know the answer to this until it happens, but everything I've seen of him in his interviews and what he says, I think he will handle it fine. If it ever spills into a 3 - 15 type of year, then that would be the real litmus test. Historically speaking, good coaches (Buono, Huf, etc) rarely have those really bad losing seasons. Not that I think O'Shea can be put in the same sentence as those coaches yet, just a comparison for the argument. He has been preaching to keep an even keel throughout all of this. After every game, we are 1 - 0 and now we prepare for next weeks game. The benefit of having this winning streak early, is he can continue to preach this once a losing streak comes. We lost a game, we are 0 - 1, and now we prepare for next week. Saying this during the winning times gives credibility when they say the same thing during the losing times. He was a player in Toronto under Pinball coaching, and while I think he is his own coach, and will always have his own style and his own stamp on the team, the things he says and does to unite the team, elevate the team above individual players, and actually have his players believe and buy into the whole team rather then individuals reminds me an awful lot of what Pinball did in Toronto. He gets his players to believe, to play for each other, and when the chips are down, that type of leadership pays dividends.

Drew Willy - Offensive Player of the Week
- So what have we learned after week 6?
I've edited and deleted a bunch of posts out of this thread. Quit calling people out and degenerating threads into pissing matches and name calling. I swear, in the past week this forum has been worse then it was all of last season.... and the Bombers are 5 - 1.- Garcia to Als
He'd probably do okay. The guy is a phenomenal athlete. Phenomenal athlete or not. He is 44 years old. No one is immune from time.- Practice report August 4
Let's not get too confident in our backup QBs until we see them in actual game action We may have the most inexperienced backups in the league.- So what have we learned after week 6?
If wishes and buts were candy and nuts we would all have a Merry Christmas. We are a 5 - 1 team because that is what our record is. That is what will be in the record books. This has no bearing on what we will be in the next 12 games This is why they play them.- Bomber Transit Question
You could always walk to the Balmoral bus stop and just bus directly. Here is the link to the transit page: http://winnipegtransit.com/en/special/bomberfanfare This is the downtown bus route to the stadium (link is from that page): http://winnipegtransit.com/assets/961/160_Pembina.pdf Here is a google map to show you how close you are to that bus stop https://www.google.com/maps/dir/49.8916293,-97.1526392/Holiday+Inn+%26+Suites+Winnipeg+Downtown,+360+Colony+St,+Winnipeg,+MB+R3B+2P3,+Canada/@49.890806,-97.1539655,17z/data=!4m9!4m8!1m0!1m5!1m1!1s0x52ea73e32e95bd35:0x9da1b43d7634b190!2m2!1d-97.15148!2d49.891171!3e2 EDIT: Just to add, That google map points to point A on the transit map- Injury updates August 3
Marve may be kept around. It is pretty common for teams to keep 4 QBs now. It really depends if there is a different QB they want to bring in for a look. Marve hasn't been great on 3rd and short, and while he rushed for a TD against Hamilton, he kind of tripped going into the goal line. Wonder if Portis can do the sneaks better.- Bomber vs Rider Game Preview: Willy's Biggest Non-Grey Cup Game
Have to believe Ford will have the extra motivation for being cut.- SK @ Ottawa
Does the West continue its dominance over the East, or can Ottawa win their 2nd home game?- Canadiens sign Subban to 8 year deal
Wasn't meant as a comparison as the Crosby deal was signed 6 years ago, and his salary was huge back then when he signed. It was a commentary on the inflation and escalation of salaries over time.- Canadiens sign Subban to 8 year deal
It is crazy how salaries keep escalating, this is just going to set the bar for future signings. Crosby signed to an AAV of 8.7M until 2024/25 will seem like a steal in a couple of years.- Canadiens sign Subban to 8 year deal
Financial details not yet released, but rumoured to be in the 9M per year range. Is he worth it? If they wanted to keep him, they didn't really have a choice. I think he was likely to get 7 - 8 in arbitration for 1 year .... then what?- Argos at Als / Leos at Stampeders
Huge fumble- Argos at Als / Leos at Stampeders
Wow, good for Glenn. I was expecting the patented last minute pick. Would be nice to see BC win this game so we can stay in 1st place.- Argos at Als / Leos at Stampeders
Wow ... would be passed out by half time.- Jets Sign UFA...
There are a few teams, like Chicago, who will have to trade something due to them being over the cap. Now, unless it is a huge block buster, can't see it being for one of the Jets higher salary guys (Kane or Buff) Off topic, but anyone think the Jets have a chance at signing Kevin Hayes? Former 1st round pick of the Blackhawks, if they don't sign him by August 15th, he will be a free agent.- Argos at Als / Leos at Stampeders
Miller and Dunnigan! Game is already looking better.- Argos at Als / Leos at Stampeders
Put this game out of its misery and hope for something more entertaining with the Lions and Stampeders- Argos at Als / Leos at Stampeders
Or a pick six- Time For The Als To Hire Barresi As OC
If offered a HC job, which if one of these East teams like Montreal and Ottawa never get out of the hole, he probably will. Somehow, I don't know that he'd settle for an OC job with Higgins. Don't know what their history is together, but guessing he would want all the marbles as a HC. Don't think they've ever worked together. It really depends how badly he wants to get into coaching again. Chances are if he wants to get back to a head coach again he will have to go back to being a coordinator first. His stint in Winnipeg, regardless of the situation he was put in, was too much of a mixed bag. Also, I'm not sure Montreal is the right situation to "show" what he can do, especially if it is an interim mid season type of deal. - So what have we learned after week 6?
