Andre Proulx has become quite popular in Canada due to his work in the CFL. One day Andre and his wife were sitting in a lovely St. Boniface cafe and a reporter who was there to interview Andre began chatting with Mrs. Proulx.
“Madame Proulx, what do you think the most important thing in life is?”
    “A penis”, she replied.
Overhearing, Andre said to her gently “I believe, my dear, dat in English eet eez pronounced ‘appiness.”

The checkdowns are self preservation for Nichols in the sense that 2 and outs are graded higher than turnovers.  It’s a mindset that’s allowed the defence to carry the team as they have been great at turning the ball over and winning field position.

Another thing I hope Osh takes into consideration. He’s already 3rd all-time in wins for the Bombers (56). Behind Cal Murphy (86) and Bud Grant (102)

Win the cup on Sunday and a few more winning seasons and who knows? The guy could one day be cast in bronze outside IGF—its not that far-fetched.

Blimey,  Riders goose egg at awards show. Tough luck, that.
Maybe it's time for a little self reflection. Maybe you're not as influential as you thought you were ?

I have a blank home jersey that will be fitted with a #8 Collaros on Monday. You simply can’t go wrong, it will always be relevant and legendary. Arguably best trade in CFL history when he pulls it off on Sunday (/positive energy)

that hinges on the amount of time that the o line gives the QB... the last 3 games the o line has played very well, however, if I chart both Streveler's and Collaros' last regular season games you would see that they are indeed almost identical...
but I will add that Lapo does seem to trust Collaros a bit more than the other two in regards to calling the deep ball... Collaros had three 20+ yd completions in the last game, the other two rarely saw 3 deep calls... which is good, but that is about the only real difference between the game plan...
I've posted this before, but I'll add it again as it does illustrates how similar those 2 games I mentioned above are... the 'targets by depth' is telling...

Just because LaPo has that kind of continuity with what he wants out of a QB with his throws, doesn’t eliminate the fact that the QB still has to make his reads and decide which target to throw to. What we are seeing with Collaros is a willingness in the LaPo offense to use the medium-deep route more, and if the pocket collapses to escape pressure and still make those throws. Whereas Nichols seems to prefer dumping it off to his ‘safety route’ once Darvin or someone doesn’t seem open downfield and/or the pocket collapses before he gets a chance to make that call. Or he’ll throw it out of bounds. Decision making and maybe confidence (Collaros is on fire) being the ultimate difference between the two. But overall I still think Nichols and Collaros are cut from a similar cloth.

Probably not. But Collaros looked pretty flat in Riderville. Could he sustain his current form over a whole season and then into Playoffs? Or would he end up being Nichols 2.0?

A lot of people seem to forget that Collaros also needs to want to come back... he may already have his mind made up that he's going back to S Ont...
this is kind of the argument I made about Nichols even when he was going through rough patches... Winnipeg was a desolate wasteland for QBs from 2009 to 2015... Matt Nichols at his worst is better than anything we had in that time frame... not spectacular, but efficient and good enough to lead the team to victories... should the team strive for better? of course... but you don't throw away a good QB just because he's not a "great" QB...

I cringe when I think about the coaching wilderness we could find ourselves in if O'Shea were to leave.
We've enjoyed sustained success for the first time in a decade.  We have players who sign (and re-sign) here because of our coach.   (As fans) we now expect to finish at / in the top of our division year over year.
This is, in large part, because of the man patrolling the sidelines.
Is O'Shea perfect?  No.  He's still growing as a coach and some may quibble with perceived 'personal traits' (the stubbornness or loyalty he shows to players / staff as an example) but consider this .. he's done more / achieved more (with arguably less talent at the most important position in the CFL) than any other coach.  4 straight years with 10 or more wins.  44 regular season wins.  4 years in the playoffs .. progressing year over year (in the playoffs twice > winning the semi-final > winning the final and going to Grey Cup).
I hope he re-signs.  I hope we get a deal done sooner rather than later.

To play devil’s advocate for Nichols....

he started the year with us 7-2, first in the West. He finished with 15 TDs and 5 INTs with just short of 2000 passing yards. Had he not gotten injured, you could argue him being on pace for the West MOP nominate. (Fajardo was 18-8 4300 yards. Nichols was on pace for 30-10  4000)
If we resign Zach and he equalled those Nichols numbers next season, we would all be singing his praises. The problem with Bomber/Winnipeg fans is we get bored. We want change for the sake of change. Look at those calling for the heads of MOS and Walters, even though we’ve posted 4 consecutive winning seasons and are now in the GC, but people still want change.
Prior to Nichols, do people remember the QB situation? Or the coaching situation prior to the MOS stability era?
It wouldn’t be the end of the world if we went into next season with Nichols and Strevs, in fact Nichols might operate with a chip on his shoulder depending on this Sunday’s outcome...

If Walter's has gone on record as saying what he did...the mutual confirmation of wanting to be, then I would take it as a done deal eventually...and to me that is good news...Oshea is a big draw and gets the best..and most outta guys as a "team" if you ask me
If there was trouble in the water, or a pretty good feeling of ways parting..Then Walter's would have just said we have talked about it, but nothing in ways of progress and left it at that...

The problem with Nichols is he’ll air it deep and everything is fine. But as soon as he throws a pick, or a few deep balls don’t work, he goes back into his shell. Its not that Collaros is 1000 times better with the deep ball, its that he’s more confident of himself it seems to keep slinging it out. Plus his ability to escape pressure and not just tuck and roll/toss it away, allows for much more when it comes to the deep ball. Nichols stats to start the year were insane, but he never sticks with it and falls back to safety-blanket things that will only get you so far (see 2018 west final).
