  1. Bo is the weak link. If he can't win with those receivers & Kadeem Carey running the ball then the Stmps should cut him loose in the off season & promote Maier.
  2. Teams are signing a lot of D2 qbs. There's a reason why they are. They are furious on social media. Saying Sunderland shouldn't be allowed to sign any players long term as he'll be fired & that Arbuckle hasn't won anything.
  3. You have to wonder why he'd leave Winnipeg to go to one of the worst teams in the league & just sit on their practice roster. He could have done that here. & at least perhaps share in playoff & GC money as well as another ring. Of late.
  4. I like Petermann but do we want guys like that on our roster that put winning second? This is pro football & players only get a short window to win championships. I want players that are only committed to winning a championship. Sorta like the NHL where you have players that will only sign with Sun Belt teams. They refuse to play in colder climates as they can't use their pool in winter, golf or go to the beach. These guys just want a paycheque & the good life over playing for a championship in a city that snows.
  5. It takes courage to go out & know you'll be mugged on the football field nearly every time you drop back to pass. I'll give tons of credit to Drew Willy for doing that. He stood in there & took his lumps. Willy never quit.
  6. I think part of development is competition. So, if two players are vying for a third string qb position the best one should make the roster. Making it a Canadian position only would be a mistake. If a Canadian can play #3 qb then sure but it shouldn't be de facto Canadian. When I say putting the needs of the fans ahead. That should be Job Number One by the CFL in a gate driven league. High ticket prices need to come down. . So, make it more affordable. Fans are refusing to pay these high prices so they don't buy tickets. They don't feel they're getting good value for their money. In calgary, if you want to buy game day single tickets on the 55 yard line, they are somewhere close to $120 each which to me, is madness. Those tickets should be half that price. All ticket prices should be slashed so that when the CFL televises locally shouldn't keep thousands of fans at home. Evening start times late in the season have to stop in Western Canada when it gets to be mid October. The teams not TSN have to call the shots here as they know what times & days of the week work best in their markets. Let then have more of a say with start times. The biggest insult to fans in my mind is UFA. There has to be a mechanism in place where fans know that good players just can't leave their former teams high & dry with no form of compensation. Especially if they were drafted as rookies or signed as 1st year free agents. Time & money went into developing these players & teams need to be paid accordingly with draft picks & money. The better the player, the more it should cost to sign them to help stem the tide of free agent frenzy we see every February. Restricted free agency has to be negotiated into the new CBA. I think any player who has been in the league 6 seasons or is signing his third contract can be UFA's. Younger players, no. Teams need to recoup the money spent on development. One year deals & NFL opt outs while under contract are another insult. Players come & go. As fans, we barely get to know these players & then they're gone. I think it's much more difficult for fans to know & relate to players than it was a generation ago when I was half my age or when I started out as a Bomber fan as a 10 year old. We knew who the players were on the Bombers. We also knew many players from other teams. There was more of a connection with fans to players back then than today. A deeper connection means a fan has more invested in their team. They're interested. They care about their team & the players. Now, as a lot of fans say, they spend a couple hundred dollars on a nice Bomber jersey with a certain player's number & name on the back. Then that player leaves the next season. Which is an expensive slap in the face especially if that player signs with the Riders. It's a sign of disrespect as the rules let players leave. TSN, the CFL & the CFLPA seem to have no interest in the fans. We pay the freight. We go to the games. We buy expensive merch. We go to the regular season, playoffs & Grey Cup. We buy season tickets. We watch the games on TSN so the broadcaster & the league can sell advertising. Without US, there'd be no CFL. It's time they started respecting what we want instead of what they always want... in a gate driven league. The day television covers all of football operations so the 9 teams all make money then they can do what they want. Until then, quit taking US, the fans for granted.
  7. NFL plays Thursday nights so once September rolls around the CFL can't schedule any games that night. Why would ypou allow for NFL opt outs? Players need to stay with their CFL teams while under contract. It's assinine to let a player try out when he has a year left on his deal.
  8. He might have been if we would have had some decent OL blocking for him.
  9. They'll never win anything with Kirk Cousins at qb.
  10. Three more games left in the regular season. They have to play hard.
  11. I think the Elks will indeed be blown up. They are the Walking Dead. But gosh, I mean... would a new coach be a cultural fit???
  12. Community ownership relies on the support of the business communities in each city. I don't see that in Edmonton. They have lost tens of millions of dollars the past 2 seasons. As have others but Edmonton, wow...
  13. If I was Commish: Get rid of one year deals. Try to put an end to unrestricted free agency. The only ones eligible are players with 6 years or more experience or about to sign their third contract. Otherwise any other free agent signing with another team must give up appropriate draft picks & receive compensation from the team signing that player. Get rid of the NFL window. Only CFL free agents can work out. Players still under CFL contracts cannot. Get rid of the salary cap on asst coaches & scouting. Bring back at least one more position assistant coach. Bring back a 3rd qb. It shouldn't just be Canadian as there aren't that many good U Sport qbs. around It should be a rookie position only. The #2 qb could then be a veteran. Get rid of the 18 game schedule. Go back to a 16 game schedule with 2 exhibition games. Only have one bye week & then only after the 8th game. Start training camps May long weekend. Have a controlled scrimmage with ahnother CFL team. Season starts last week of June /July long weekend & GC second or third week of November. Put a cap on CFL Presidents & GMs salaries. No more half million dollar salaries for Club Presidents while some lowly assistant get $45,000 with no benefits. Give a pension plan to coaching & scouting staff along with dental, life & health insurance. Lower single game day ticket prices by 35-50%. Lower concessions & parking. Survey fans on what kind of pre & halftime entertainment they want to see. Tell TSN that Canadian Country has to go. To use a more variety of music during broadcasts including country. Try to get Global, CBC, CTV or City TV network interested in bidding on broadcast rights. Finally, make the CFL respect the fans once again. Don't put the needs of players ahead the needs of fans, Make them feel egaged again.
  14. Bomber fans today who weren't around when Dave Raimey played for the Bombers have no idea just how good he was & the moves he put on would be tacklers. He wasn't called The Knife for nothing. Playing on brutal Bomber teams with sub par offensive lines & crappy qbs defenses could key on him & he still was a thousand yard rusher. Put him on a powerhouse team like Ottawa, Calgary & Sask at the time & he'd have been a 1600-1700 yard rusher. He was traded early season in the 1969 season to the Argos where he shared the same backfield with another thousand yard all star halfback by the name of Bill Symons. A season ending knee injury in 1970 ended his career as an offensive halfback but in 1971 he switched to cornerback & played very well at that position until 1975 when he retired.
  15. I had some favourites when I was much younger. The Bombers were like the Elks back in the late 60's with very few great players. We couldn't score touchdowns on offense & we couldn't stop teams from scoring them. We used to get our asses kicked on a weekly basis. We had one superstar in HB Dave Raimey whom we traded for Argos QB Wally Gabler. There wasn't much after Raimey left so I liked some players from other teams. My favourite was Stamps QB Peter Liske. The first CFL qb to throw for 4000 yards in 1967. Another was Lions Jim Young. The wingback/SB for the Lions was a phenomenal player & one of the true characters in the history of the league. He wrote a bestseller in 1973 called Dirty 30 (his nickname as a player). Then there was Halfback Rudy Linterman of the Stamps. He was the first player I ever saw who had long hair flowing out of the back of his helmet & he wore low top white shoes while the other players wore high top black boots.
  16. Every game this weekend had tens of thousands of empty seats. The games have no more atmosphere or exitement. I don't know what to think anymore except that I'm worried for the future of the CFL.
  17. I've never felt Aaron Grymes is as good as his reputation seems to be.
  18. A lot of it has to do with the shape of the football. It ain't round so sometimes the bounces can go either way. Teams have good days & bad days. The Elks good days are still worse than our bad days so a game may be closer than we'd like it to be. Is my analogy making sense or should I just quit while I'm ahead. 😉
  19. We don't know if Chevy stayed silent??? How can you even say that? Holy .... ! He has never spoken about it.
  20. Just one more thing regarding sexual abuse. When I coached football, I was a bantam HC here in Calgary. This was back in 2003-2005. I instigated a team rule at practice or games that any coach or volunteer that needed to take a player back to our locker room to treat an injury or fix an equipment problem with a player couldn't do it alone. At least 2 adults always had to be present at all times when a player went back. To protect not only the player but the volunteers or coaches themselves.
  21. My son Tyler played football for Simon Fraser University from 2012-15. He played Junior College in California after playing two years iof Junior football with the Rifles. So, he was 22 & nearly 23 when he went to SFU as a qb. They wanted to haze him with the 18 year old rookies. He just looked at the veterans wanting to do it, stared them down & said there's no way he was going to allow it. As he was 4 years older than some of the veterans on the team & he was a qb, they backed down. Refusing to be hazed never affected his relationship with any player after that as he was elected as a captain his second year & was very close with a lot of guys in the locker room. Of course, he was always thought of as the Old Man on the team. FIFO doesn't mean anyone should take abuse from anyone associated with their team..
