  1. The reason I have always disliked the True North chant and why it is different than the octopus/cannon in Columbus etc. is the attachment to the corporate entity that it represents. I understand that for many people they are considered the saviors of hockey in Winnipeg and if they want to cheer it then good for them I guess but they might as well sponsor the anthem. If it was the Octopus throw sponsored by Little Ceasers, I would have the same disposition as I do the True North chant. Personally, I don't understand why there is a need to publicly fellate the owners of the team before every game. As a fan I don't feel the need to ass kiss, the team is back and I pay a LOT of money to watch them play. That is more than enough thanks in my books. Also, this will be the same ownership group that will support a lockout in a few years when the CBA expires. Take my thoughts with a grain of salt, I'm an Oilers fan anyways. That's my personal opinion on the matter. But keep it the **** away from my Bombers please.
  2. Thank God I'm not the only one who rolls my eyes at the True North chant. I hate it at Jets games, it's beyond stupid to yell it at Bomber games.
  3. Resident Rams fan here - Givens is a good pickup for us. He can stretch the field well, had an excellent rookie season in St. Louis and then fell off once Sam Bradford got hurt (both times). He definitely isn't anything like Thorpe, he won't be a possession guy but will outrun coverage on the deep routes.
  4. One of two things has to be true. Either he asked for his release and it was granted or they are bringing in someone else to replace him on the roster that they feel is better (Eric Rogers please and thank you). I don't want to believe that they feel L'Damian Washington is a better player than Thorpe, that would make zero sense and is depressing to think about.
  5. I'm a Rams fan myself and have been following him closely. From what I've read, he has no more PR eligibility so that doesn't make him an attractive option on the FA market and this is likely his last stand in the NFL.
  6. Yeah count me in for the group that is nervous for this game, not because I think that these teams are that close but more so that historically the records don't matter. If this was a game in October or July, I go Bombers all the way. I also wasn't thrilled with how the offense moved the ball against the Als. I'm hoping they get Flanders more involved this week which in turn should free up Harris a bit more like in the Edmonton game, maybe not to the gaudy numbers he put up but in terms of helping create some space for him.
  7. Good lord this thread was exhausting to read form the beginning. I'll just make 2 points: Point #1 - I have no issue with fans of any team commenting, even critically, on the Bombers on this forum or otherwise. I walk around with a fairly large pair of blue and gold glasses on and even I know our team is not without it's criticisms. I can handle when people talk **** about the Bombers. If I value their opinion, it helps me look at the team more objectively. If I don't value their opinion, who gives a *** what they think anyways? I'm not going to let it ruin my day/week/life. Point #2 - As far as the trolls go, it's the old standard that all you do is encourage them when you engage so I find it amusing that people reply constantly to them and then complain that they are still around. Want them to go away? Stop encouraging their discussion. Simple. Disclaimer - I am not pushing my beliefs on anyone and feel free to continue getting #madonline if you want but this all seems a bit too tiresome for me.
  8. Ciante Evans at both CB and HB, these guys must also vote for NHL all stars
  9. I have a hard time believing that the league would allow a player with a rap sheet similar to Briles onto a roster, this does not look good at all.
  10. Yeah I would agree on Knox. LB recruiting needs an overhaul this offseason. Santos-Knox has done a nice job on teams, maybe he is worth a look in more of an expanded role on D and let Kyle Knox play predominantly on teams again. How much of a drop off could it be?
  11. Or it was pre-determined that he would follow Popp to Toronto
  12. It's not a stretch to say that right now Walker is better than Dressler. Hence, acquiring him now would be improving the team this year. If he signs a 1+1, even better. As others have alluded to, without knowing what room the Bombers have to play with it might not be a one or the other scenario if Walker signed a pro-rated 1 year deal and then tried the NFL again next year but if I had to choose I'm taking Walker this year, next year and beyond over Dressler. (I'd take Eric Rogers too but he has his own injury concerns)
  13. I don't think it's a matter of wanting to move on from Dressler (at least myself personally), but when you have an opportunity to add high end skill you need to make it work and unfortunately that would likely spell the end of Dressler as a Bomber in order to make the money work. In this case, age plays a big factor. If we are talking Dressler in his prime then I probably don't do it but how many years does he have left in him? The injuries keep piling up and eventually take their toll. That having been said, I would take a healthy Walker over a healthy Dressler right now hands down anyways.
  14. Well considering the lanes that Sask's OL will open for him will be as big as the one on the left, he should be very comfortable in that offense.
  15. If it means losing Dressler to sign Walker to a multi-year deal, as much as I love Dressler I don't see why we wouldn't make that trade-off. If we sign him to a 1-year deal, Denmark goes to PR when Dressler gets healthy. Either way, Walters should be interested and put together a serious offer.
  16. It's hard to find much fault in any one particular player from last night, the guys played a great team game for 60 minutes. There were definitely things that need to get cleaned up, like penalties, but as many have stated already most of the Esks yardage came via the long ball and some pretty contested throws at that. I doubt that you can sustain much success hoping Duke Williams can catch a ball in 2x coverage after it hits him in the helmet as he's falling down. Run defense was a little spotty again yesterday though and it's slowly becoming more of a concern for me, especially as it comes in conjunction with the secondary starting to round into form. If we can get our run D back on track and the secondary continues to gel then we can really become a force. Finally, I was a big Lapo doubter when he was hired but it's hard to argue with the results he has given us so far. He really plans to his players strengths and puts them in a position to succeed. Yeah, there will be times where the gadget play comes in a situation where it wasn't warranted like last night but no one complained when we pulled out 2 trick plays in one drive against BC last year because they both worked. Sometimes you get burnt on those but when they connect it's a huge momentum swing. TL;DR - we're awesome
  17. I thought it looked like he overran it thinking the ball was going to end up deeper in the endzone and at the last minute tried to adjust but Stafford had boxed him out.
  18. We did get a 3 on the first drive with the trick play but yeah it's a minimum of 7 points left off on those two drives. Add in the drive that got stalled due to penalties and we could have been off and running early.
  19. I would love to see Thorpe get into the end zone, that guy is such a valuable piece of the offense already.
  20. I love how Adams wins almost every 50/50 ball, he has great hands and does a nice job at high pointing the ball int he air and adjusting.
  21. That was Chris O' Leary. He said on the radio that he is picking Hammy until they win.
  22. Could also be the case the the team did the player a favor in the sense that he could start for a few teams but he wouldn't here so they cut him to explore other opportunities. Walker looks like a keeper so far and they are obviously high on Carmichael so the DI spot can be for Fogg and that leaves Porter on the PR. Not a lot of room for a vet DB likely making more than what they would like for a PR guy.
  23. He was one of their better defensive players, and on a team devoid of talent the leash is longer. Makes you wonder if Reinbold was vouching for him and now that he got canned they are cleaning house.
