Ugh... got my years wrong. It's not often I mix things like that up, but I'll admit when I'm at fault here.. sorry for the misinformation.
-
...just the tone from the forum. Also, this thread?

My issue isn't with the suggestions, it's the fact that regardless of how good (or bad) a coordinator will eventually be, the first few years there is always some learning and growing pains: Dickenson's first year as OC was 2011, when they finished 3rd in the West (11-7), this was a regression from 13-5 the previous year. Maas's first year (2015), the Redblacks went 2-16. Although we'll eventually have to move on from LaPo, in the middle of the year isn't the time to do it, and certainly not with the team sitting at 6-2. If we were say, even 3-5 I could understand the logic, but at 6-2 you're really risking blowing up a perfectly good season. Not to mention Winnipeg fans are fickle to begin with, could you imagine the backlash if they promoted Pierce to OC, then went 0-2? That's how you end up with the cyclical firings we were notorious for most of the last decade, which would then make it more difficult to attract coaching talent, and the problem perpetuates itself.
-
So... you're candidates are: 1. Buck Pierce: A guy who's never been an offensive coordinator. 2. Ryan Dinwiddie: A coordinator that sounds like nothing more than a puppet with the current staff in Calgary. Dickenson calls the plays, and Dinwiddie's formal title is Quarterbacks Coach. When Dinwiddie was in full control in Montreal, in 2013 - 2015, they never posted a winning season... and oddly enough that was in large part due to their putrid offense.
-
Sure, they have a problem closing out games, but is the solution really to blow up the entire offense by either jettisoning LaPo or Nichols or as some on here would argue, both? From everyone calling for LaPo's head, I've yet to hear of a suggestion for a replacement OC. Or maybe they think we'd be better off without an OC at all?

CFL Players in NFL Training Camps

I'll agree Zylstra is better than Matthews, but we need Matthews as a deep threat... without him, and with Adams currently on the shelf, opposing D's would really come downhill hard on us. -
Well, actually OTT is tied with us for 2-and-outs. Although our 2-and-outs (44) are above league average (35.6), we also still lead the league in the following offensive categories, despite the bad road trip to Ontario: - Offensive touchdowns (23) - Overall touchdowns (25) - Passing touchdowns (15) - Rushing yards (982) - This is particularly good, considering how much more frequently SSK attempts to run the ball (SSK has 187 rush attempts, we have only 151 but still manage to lead the league in rushing yards). We are also 2nd only to EDM in passing efficiency (EDM - 104.5, WPG 102.6) I'd be more concerned with the high number of two-and-outs if we didn't maintain the ball offensively for so long, the two other teams with more two-and-outs (OTT, TOR) are also dead last in average time of possession (25:38 and 26:46), whereas the bombers (32:34) are much closer to the top average (MTL - 33:16). This is indicative of OTT and TOR having to change their strategy to more pass-happy because they play from behind more often. This in turn is riskier, and thus results in more two-and-outs. Changing your starting QB or offensive coordinator when you're 6-2 is nothing short of ridiculous.

Regardless of fan base, every cohort has its share of jerks. For example, Philadelphia Eagles fans have a terrible reputation for things like cheering opposing player injuries, and booing Santa. By no means does it mean every Eagles fan is inherently a jerk, it just means they are unjustly perceived as such.
-
I understand why they don't want delays, but forcing the score to final like that is just silly in my opinion. Anyone know if this rule applies to the playoffs / Grey Cup? Now THAT would be bush league.

It's time to hand the ball to Streveler.

Obviously Grant should be our new QB ... he had over 300 yards. -

HH to Nichols for properly executing QB Kneel formation after Streveler closed things out. -
2019 CFL Season: Around the League

Well, Etienne never played a single down for them, so I don't see how that trade could've been any worse for them? Sure Willy may have just never resigned, but they may have been able to flip him elsewhere for a more promising trade that may have panned out. -

Okay in the crazy-alternate reality world where we "win" the 2014 Burris sweepstakes, one would have to assume Willy stays with SSK going forward in 2014 (instead of traded to us)... I would think long-term that would've made us worse off and SASK better off (seeing as how they got Jade Etienne in the trade). So yeah, on top of Burris being a jerk, it would've made SSK better off and us worse off, so no thank you. Also if you assume Burris would result in the 2016 GC landing here - no way, Burris would've been mulch with those awful 2014/2015 seasons from the porous O-lines...and the supporting cast certainly wasn't there. -
Say what you want about his play, but he loves our city, his daughter's middle name is named after our city. People here say he's a crybaby, but nobody on this forum (except maybe Tburgess) has had even 1,000 people angry at them at the same time. That stuff stays with you, even if you are a professional.
-
Regarding management of our current and potential QBs, I agree that our organization both currently, and historically, has been horrendous at managing, and developing quarterbacking talent. Regardless of Nichols success/failure this year, Streveler has got to be the guy going forward, O'Shea's logic of essentially never pulling/resting starters has completely backfired in multiple scenarios, and worse it has resulted in our backups being greener than they need to be when called upon due to inevitable injuries.
-
It's the devil you know vs. the devil you don't...they could make the switch and end up worse off in the long run. Besides, there are other facets of our O that haven't performed well.. Matthews only had his first TD reception in the 4th against the Argos, despite his injury-riddled season and inconsistent play, nobody seems to be calling for his head.
-
That's because it is purely speculation... does nobody else remember things before Nichols? Drew Willy left to die on the field... Justin Goltz... Brian Brohm?!?? People seem to forget it was Streveler - not Nichols - that air mailed that open pass late in the 3rd quarter of the Western Final last year. Nichols has done everything he can to get better and come back from injury, he's a selfless leader, and owns his mistakes when he makes them. Is he perfect? Absolutely not, however he is still our QB, and has given his all for the city - show him at least some level of respect.

Pregame talk: Patriots North come to town
Eternal optimist replied to White Out's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Anyone else here notice Harris has 4 fumbles in 7 games, I can't find a full listing of fumbles by other RBs in 2019 for comparison, but that seems like a lot to me. -

Sure... the point is, dollar for dollar, they get the most mileage out of their players without having to pay premiums to get big free agent signings. -

They build from the draft within, it seems every year there are new unproven guys on their squad that step in.... they certainly don't do it by signing players for $700,000 a year, Mitchell is the exception, not the rule. -

You can't have your cake and eat it too, either one of those guys would be a massive cap hit, and the team would suffer in other positions. -

Stafford is 13th in receiving yardage as of Week 7 (Week 8 stats aren't out yet), always thought he was a steady player, though certainly past his prime now... -

I understand everyone purchasing a ticket is entitled to boo/cheer etc. but personally I always hate when a home crowd boos their own team. If they're playing like trash, they already know it, they don't need their own fans rubbing salt in the wound to boot. The one exception is if it is 'Riders fans booing their own team - that on the other hand is poetic justice.
