Looks like they'll be using this last game to take a second look at a couple of players for next year.  Has Padric Scott dressed this year?  Seems to me he was injured throughout T.C. and didn't play in an exhibition games.

I don't recall P. Scott even making the 46 man roster at all this year...definitely don't recall him dressing

    Is this good?

and thanks a lot for the observations

if having 3 Ints on the DLine produces more push, pressure, and closes off running lanes...then yes...but we all saw this "cowboy" D formation last year...it wasn't great...having said that we also ran more 3 - 4 at this practice than I've seen previously...one positive I suppose is that we will be giving Ottawa a different look on D this week...

  3. Notables
    - padless practice
    - Wild practising with 2nd team
    - Chungh practising with 2nd team
    - Denmark present but not practising
    - Bass present but not practising
    - I didn't see Bond anywhere
    - Hardrick shifted to LG
    - Foketi at RT
    - T. Flanders no reps with first team O or ST's - look for him to be moved off roster
    - Fogg reps at dime and kick/punt
    - Knox, Fogg and McDuffie all taking ST's reps..they're the likely DI's (other than Medlock)
    - McDuffie and Fogg sharing kick return reps...punt reps to Fogg
    - D. Adams all 1st team reps at X receiver
    - T. Gurley reps with first team in place of Denmark
    - B. Johnson all first team reps at field HB;
    - Cole and Shologan got reps only with 2nd team...not with first team
    - Green and Scott got first team reps on the D Line with Thomas and Corney rotating...look for Green and Scott to come on roster
    - Hurl and Knox splitting reps at MLB
    - Nichols one pick, and a few drops...other than that pretty efficient;
    - Davis continues to get more reps than Glenn
    - as has been the case for most of the last full days of practice during a week that I've observed, (after stretching) team starts with positional drills, red zone 0 and D and ST's

    Here's how they lined up

    DB's
    - (Field) B. Johnson, Frederick
    - (Safety) Loffler
    - (Boundary) Heath, Randle

    LB's
    Burnett Hurl/Knox, Leggett
Hurl mostly in "cowboy" (on the DLine taking up a block) and on the field when we have 3 Ints on DLine...Knox rotates in when we're running 2 Int's on DLine, (ie Corney takes out Green or Thomas takes out P. Scott or Cummings)

    DLine
Westerman P. Scott Cummings Green (Thomas and Corney rotating)

    OLine
Bryant Hardrick Goosen Neufeld Foketi, (Couture extra O Lineman)

    Receivers
    D. Adams Dressler Smith Gurley Kohlert

    RB's
    Harris (Normand)

FYI: this is what I observed between 11:30 and 12:30

I know that Fogg will get snaps on D, but not as much as when he's starting.

I just think that having Gurley at receiver in red zone situations would be more valuable than the marginal upgrade Mcduffie provides over Fogg on kick returns.

If Wild is back as a starter this year there will be a domino effect regarding DIs...Burnett will likely stay as our LB DI...Knox out...the remaining  2 DI spots will be interesting...

I would've preferred finding a way to get Gurley on the roster as well...I think they will find a way going forward....one way to get him on the roster would be to start 3 Nats on the OLine...and put Kohlert in a backup role

I wonder if we might consider having Neufeld take over RT again...Nat at RG (Chungh Couture Keeping) and Centre (Goosen)...

  5. 22 minutes ago, Blueandgold said:

-Why dress Mcduffie if Fogg isn't even starting? Fogg's more than capable of returning kicks and punts if he's in a reserve role. I'd rather us play Gurley (or Flanders but they wouldn't use him anyways) than dress THREE DI's for special teams.

Fogg will likely rotate in when we go into a dime package on D - last week D. Jones was our "dime", I'm confident Fogg will be our dime over Jones or Sherman...

MOS hinted at this when he said both Johnson and Fogg will be playing this week

WPG Blue Bombers ‏@Wpg_BlueBombers 4 hours ago

"Both guys are going to get to play." - Coach O'Shea on Fogg & Johnson

Knox has been used on 3 - 4 sets/formations with the D (but sparingly)...

I haven't seen McDuffie used on O since he's been back from injury...but they did have him come in on different packages at the beginning of the year when he was in the DI role.

I think they will likely all have some snaps with O/D respectively aside from their ST duties...and of course if a starter gets injured during the game...they are all valuable back ups . ..

  6. 23 minutes ago, johnzo said:

Just love that we're rostering four draft picks from this year.

I agree...and the confidence we're showing in our Nat depth is notable as well...

    - last game our back-up DBs were Jones and Sherman...no extra Int DB...

    - we're only rotating 6 DLineman, (not dressing an extra Int DLineman)...

    - and we're apparently not dressing an Int RB this game..relying on Normand and Tuck...

Our Nat depth has come a long way from the days of Jade Etienne and Rene Stephan

  7. 2 hours ago, Arnold_Palmer said:

Hope we get to see Adams and Gurley on the field on a few packages. I understand the loyalty to a guy like Smith but I think our receiving core is the most dangerous with Adams, Gurley, Denmark, and Dressler on the field at the same time.

Doesn't appear like we'll see Adams and Gurley on the field at the same time this game...our scratches will likely be Gurley and Flanders

  8. 38 minutes ago, wbbfan said:

thanks, great break down. I hope they take the DI that was used on flanders and use it on gurley. Love to see him rotated in especially in the red zone.

Wonder if macho harris will make it back onto the active roster for his teams play / depth.

Pretty sure Flanders' DI spot will be filled by Fogg.  Nothing at practice today suggests Gurley will dress.

    Thanks very much SS.

'Davis is still 2nd option at QB'

I'm somewhat surprised by this. Wouldn't Glenn be our better option 2 at this stage of the season?

I think Glenn is absolutely our better option...but he's at vet that doesn't need 2nd string reps...I think this is part of their plan to develop Davis...as the 2nd option, he gets considerably more practice reps than Glenn...in all the years I've gone to practices and through many regimes...there seems to be some constants...one of them is that 3rd string QB's don't get a lot of meaningful reps during practice....

interesting. is this the game that we will see Richards dropped from the 44 (or 46) in favor of STers Warden / Sherman?

It depends on what they want to do with Wild..ie keep him on 46 or take him off and insert Sherman.  I couldn't make out if Warden was getting ST reps...they could swap Warden out with Sherman as well...seems like a waste to do so as Wild doesn't appear anywhere near able to take the field.

    UPDATE

    11mDarrin Bauming‏ @DarrinBauming

Moe Leggett (lower-body) and Ian Wild (upper-body) did not practice today and both remain questionable to play Friday. Justin Warden is out.

  12. Notables
    - Wild not practising
    - Sherman back practising and likely back on roster this week
    - Legget not practising but did do some positional drills...I would be surprised if he didn't play this week
    - Posey practising at SAM in place of Leggett; but did not take part in any ST's which signals he may be odd man out if Moe can go...
    - Jones came in on "dime" situations...again, this coupled with no ST reps for Posey and Sherman likely coming back leads me to think Posey or Leggett scratch for this game.
    - Knox and Heath seemed to switch numbers for practise.
    - Knox, Flanders and McDuffie all taking ST's reps..they're the likely DI's (other than Medlock)
    - McDuffie all kick return reps
    - Gurley all 1st team reps at X receiver
    - B. Johnson practising with 2nd team; made a nice pic off of Nichols.
    - Nichols very efficient in red zone with the exception of the pic, (under-throw on corner route)
    - Davis is still 2nd option at QB
    - as has been the case for most of the last full days of practise during a week that I've observed, (after stretching) team starts with positional drills, red zone 0 and D and ST's

    Here's how they lined up

    DB's
(Field)Frederick Fogg - Loffler - (Boundary) Heath Randle (Jones in for dime package)

    LB's

    Receivers
    Gurley Dressler Smith Denmark Kohlert

    RB's
    Harris (Flanders DI)

  13. Darrin Bauming‏ @DarrinBauming
Terrence Frederick, who been scratched the last two games, looks to have won the starting job over Johnny Adams at boundary corner.

    Darrin Bauming‏ @DarrinBauming
Justin Cole, who missed last week with an injury, is back at his regular starting rush end spot.

    Darrin Bauming‏ @DarrinBauming
Watching first and second-team reps, Andrew Harris (ankle) isn't participating at all. I'd list him as doubtful for Friday night.

    Bob Irving‏ @BobIrvingCJOB
2 changes on bomber defence this week--terrence frederick for johnny adams at c.b. And justin cole for eric martin at defensive end.

    Bob Irving‏ @BobIrvingCJOB
Neither andrew harris or quincy mcduffie is working with first team bomber offence--that would make them very ?? For friday.

    Darrin Bauming‏ @DarrinBauming
Sounds like Andrew Harris is headed towards being a game-time decision for a third-consecutive week. He may play despite zero practice reps.Sep 28, 2016, 2:01 PM

    Darrin Bauming‏ @DarrinBauming
Ian Wild has been suffering from "general malaise" according to Mike O'Shea, rather than an upper or lower-body injury designation. #Bombers

Got to practise at about Noon.  Pad-less practice.  MOS had a team meeting at mid field...team went into stretches...positional drills...then ST and red zone O and D

Here's how they're lining up from left to right

    DB's
         - Frederick, Johnson, Loffler, Fogg, Randle

Unlike last week when corners stayed static on left and right side of field so each played boundary/field corner with HB's rotating, Randle would rotate to boundary with Fogg.  Randle and Fogg clearly boundary side DB's

    LB's
         - Wild, Bass, Leggett

    DLine
         - Westerman, Shologan, Cummings, Cole - Corney and Thomas rotating in.  I did not see Green rotating in at all.

    OLine (no changes)
         - Bryant, Bond, Goosen, Chungh, Hardrick

    Receivers
         - Smith, Dressler, Gudino, Denmark, Kohlert.  McDuffie got a lot of reps with 2nd team; but none with first team

    RB's
         - Flanders, Lochard, (Normand).  As Bauming noted above, I did not see Harris get any reps whatsoever.

    ST's
It appears as though our DI's (other than Medlock) will be
         - Heath, Knox and Burnett.

Hurl slots back in on ST's, and Jake Thomas has replaced the wedge blocking position I've seen Green previously occupy.
It looks like Green might be the odd man out with Cole and Wild coming back onto the roster..both he and Eric Martin seem to be coming off. Green did not get any reps with ST's.

    Primary punt return reps to
         - Fogg, (both McDuffie and Legget took some reps)

    All kick return reps to
         - Heath, (McDuffie did not slot in)

    QB's
Looks like Davis remains the second option

    Notable:
    - Teague Sherman was not practising...could mean Tennant draws back in...this is complete speculation but based on the fact that it looks like Green might be out of the D line rotation

    PR addition receivers
    - Davis, Quinshad
    - Duncan, Kieren
    - Outlaw, Lonnie
all got reps with 2nd and 3rd team O.

    PR addition QB
    - Bethel-Thompson, McLeod was practising.  Has a strong arm...but didn't get any team reps with O.

    - Majority of reps to Nichols and 1st team O.  Nichols did not throw a pick; but had a pass knocked down by Heath, (on 2nd team D)...and a near pick by Keith Lewis (2nd team)...

    Notable Plays:
    - Moe Legget picked off Davis;
    - Flanders making nice catches out of the backfield, (not checkdowns)
    - McDuffie made some nice catches and a spectacular spin move after a catch...whatever his injury is/was...it isn't affecting his mobility;
    - Smith caught 2 TD passes (from Nichols)...nice routes;
    - Denny caught a nice TD on a corner route (from Nichols)

I assume Hurl is the other scratch?

That's what I thought...he hasn't practised in 3 weeks or so...but CJOB reported the following:

    4h680 CJOB Sports‏ @CJOBSports

Harris/McDuffie on #CFL #Bombers depth chart vs @calstampeders , Neither are expected to play. Eric Martin replaces Justin Cole at DE

I heard Jeff Hamilton on 1290 this morning say that Harris didn't get on the plane with the team...he's back here in Winnipeg.

So Harris and 1 International, [we can only have 20 Ints on 44 man game-day roster(not including QBs) and we currently have 21 Ints on the depth chart]

McDuffie or Knox...wow...they're keeping us guessing this week...I'm guessing McDuffie sits...I don't think Hurl is healthy enough to step in and help out the LB corps...he'll dress but I don't think we'll see him all that much...kind of like the approach we took with Thomas last week.

Actually Sam, I liked your practise report. If what you wrote is for real or not, is the Calgary coaches problem. Now let's say they take what you allegedly observed and practised to counter those plays. Who's to say our Blue would even run those plays in a game. Maybe your throwing the Stamps off their plans. Wahaha ha. It's like the ol' rope a dope. Let the stamps offence get tired out by marching the ball up the field, and when they are exhausted, "Whammo". We hit em where it hurts.

Maybe our coaches are just that smrt. Like Ditka smart. But Canadian.

Looks like Cole missed practice again today.

Who's the Nebraska guy we picked up?  Martin?  Does he get a shot in the rotation this week?

As I mentioned in the report for Sept 21...Eric Martin (52) was getting reps with ST's punt return unit...if Cole can't go, seems likely that Martin comes into DI role based on what I saw yesterday, and that Green takes Cole's regular roster spot.

  17. Darrin Bauming‏ @DarrinBauming
T.J. Heath is also taking some reps at kick returner. If McDuffie is out; Heath, Fogg, Feoli-Gudino, and Leggett are options there. #Bombers

    Darrin Bauming‏ @DarrinBauming
T.J. Heath enters the #Bombers first-team D as they roll out their dime package, aka six DBs.

    Darrin Bauming‏ @DarrinBauming

c'mon guys...Dickenson and every other co-ordinator know what we're running...and our practises are open to the public...that's not the only time we've used the formation I refer to above; I mentioned it specifically to give others an idea what it looks like, (it was the best video example I could think of)...but I appreciate what you're saying...I wouldn't ever disclose gadget plays etc that other teams may never have seen us run...if the mods want to delete it...I have no objection

Gotta be as a DI that'll rotate in for certain packages. Just can't see them outright pulling Fogg or Johnson......but maybe.....?

If today's practise is an indicator..he'll be a DI...He didn't replace Fogg, Johnson or Leggett in any D configurations I saw today...they worked on different D alignments in the Skelly sessions, (no D or Olines)...he was on the field with starting DBs and Leggett at the same time...it's a formation  we've shown before this year on D with different personnel...in the game against TO at BMO field...Leggett got his 2nd int while we were in this formation (pic on sidelines near end of game)...didn't mention it above because I only saw it in Skelly.

You can see the formation I'm referring to starting at the 118 minute mark (1:58) of the youtube video of the TO game
