    Positive sign for Ryan Smith and his injured thumb ? #Bombers receiver is catching balls and practicing for the first time since Banjo Bowl.

    Bob Irving‏ @BobIrvingCJOB
    No andrew harris but ryan smith and quincy mcduffie are practicing with blue bombers

    Darrin Bauming‏ @DarrinBauming
    Still no Andrew Harris or Khalil Bass, but Dressler, Smith Cole, Cummings, and Corney are all back precticing today. #Bombers

    Darrin Bauming‏ @DarrinBauming
    Quincy McDuffie is back practicing today after getting nicked-up in the game, but neither he nor Smith are working with the first-team O.

    The above injury reports are correct.  I would add that Wild, Hurl and A. Richards did not practise either.  Posey is back practising with scout D...this was a pad-less practise

    Offence lined up as follows (from left to right)

         Mayo, Dressler, Flanders, Gudino, Denmark, Kohlert

    DBs lined up as follows (from left to right as you would see on depth chart)

         Adams, Johnson, Loffler Fogg, Randle

    It should be noted that Randle and Adams each took turns at boundary and field...Frederick also took reps with first team at corner (field and boundary) rotating both Randle and Adams out...

    LB's
         Burnett at WIL for Wild;
         Knox at MLB for Bass;
         Leggett at SAM

    O and Dlines remain unchanged from last week

    Of note: Heath got first team work with punt return, and punt cover team...this may be an indication that he draws in as a DI this week

    Notable plays from practise

     - Mayo caught 2 long passes (30+ yards) from Davis and Nichols
     - Heath picked KG
     - Posey caused fumble;
     - Keith Lewis (39) picked Nichols
     - Eric Martin got some reps with punt return team (not as many as Heath)
     - towards the end of practise, Smith did get reps with first team taking out Mayo.....very few
     - McDuffie caught some punts; but was not involved in the O at all
     - about one hour into practise, Smith and MOS were talking at mid-field...Smith removed his glove from his hand and they both         looked at his thumb
     - team still does pushups when there's a penalty...Wade and Kyle were there...Kyle joined in and did his share of pushups...Wade didn't..lol

    - Davis remains 2nd at QB depth

  2. Here's a copy and paste from the FreeP this morning, (Sept 14, 2016)

    Breathe, Winnipeg Blue Bombers fans. It appears tailback Andrew Harris’s lower-body injury isn’t serious.

    Harris, who pulled up lame in the second quarter of the Bombers’ 17-10 Banjo Bowl win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders Saturday, was considered day-to-day Tuesday afternoon. Head coach Mike O’Shea downplayed any long-term fears following the team’s practice ahead of Saturday’s game against the visiting Toronto Argonauts.

    "We’re at that time of the year where they’ve had piles of reps and they need rest," O’Shea said. "Just wait and see until the end of Day 3 (of practice) to see what it looks like."

    Harris, along with linebackers Khalil Bass and Ian Wild, missed Tuesday’s proceedings due to injuries. Their status will be evaluated later this week, but they don’t have to practise to be named to the 46-man roster for Saturday’s game.

    Harris appeared to injure his right ankle after a nasty collision. The Winnipeg native had his ankle taped and appeared in two more drives before sitting out the second half.

    Wild left the game in the second quarter with an upper-body injury, while Bass played all four quarters, recording six tackles.

    Meanwhile, receiver Ryan Smith, who has missed six games this season due to injury, might miss more after suffering a new injury.

    Smith, who left Saturday’s game in the third quarter with an upper-body ailment, was spotted at Tuesday’s practice with his right hand wrapped.

    O’Shea said he thinks Smith is a couple of weeks away from returning to the lineup.

    Veteran defensive back Chris Randle has finished his stint on the six-game injured list with a lower-body injury and could return to game action Saturday.

    "We’ll see, I feel good health-wise," Randle said after Tuesday’s practice, in which he was taking first-team reps. "We’ll see how the week goes. It’s been a while, so I got to get my feet under me and see how things go. Hopefully I have a good week."

    Khalil Bass is also taking a day off practice today. Also Morgan (injured Sat), Hurl & Thomas (1gm IL). Briggs (injured Sat) is practicing.

    Bob Irving‏ @BobIrvingCJOB
    Ian wild, ryan smith, and andrew harris not practicing with bombers --all have "BODY" injuries vs non-body injuries. Status TBD

    Darrin Bauming‏ @DarrinBauming
    Ryan Smith's right thumb is wrapped up as if it may be cut. Smith left Saturday's game and did not return. #Bombers

     - Flanders and Lochard each got some reps with first team in "team" scrimmage;
     - Randle at boudary corner with starting D; Adams to field;
     - Frederick and M. Harris practising with second team;
     - Godino and Denmark got reps with first team; majority of first team reps to Denmark;
     - Knox is back practising with punt ST, and 1st team MLB in place of Bass;
     - Briggs also practising with punt ST;
     - Randle picked long toss; Glenn hit a couple of passes...looks like he'll be alright with our playbook;
     - Heath practising with second team;
     - Burnett in at WIL for Wild; Wild was doing wind sprints;

    In a couple of "skelly" sessions (no D defending) starting O was McDuffie, Dressler, Lochard, Sheppard, Denmark, Kohlert...also flipped out Lochard and inserted Flanders

    Or do we throw young qbs into a situation with bad teams and expect them to work miracles and throw them on the scrap heap when they don't? Cause we haven't exactly had great teams here lately.

    I kind of felt that way about Elliot...but the others I listed...not so much...fair comment though

  5. I think learning from established starters is an important component; but our recent history with Goltz, Boltus, Elliot, Brohm etc is that they either didn't have the physical/mental abilities to play as a starter in this league or were really lacking in their mechanics/fundamentals...we just haven't recruited guys that if given the opportunity to learn, would be able to start in this league because of their deficiencies...

    Because it's worked out oh so wonderfully the last time we've fired coaches mid season (Ritchie/Daley, Lapo/Burke)

    Who are we going to replace him with, hypothetically if we do? Lapo? Hall? With their "pristine" head coaching records, give me a break. IF this season ends up being another dismal one, then relax - O'Shea won't be back and everyone knows it. That said firing him at ANY point during the season accomplishes NOTHING BENEFICIAL whatsoever.

    The firing would cater to the pitch fork mob...that's about all we'd be accomplishing...statistically unlikely that it will result in a huge turnaround for the team's on field product.

  7. Huge game.  Montreal looks like they will be the Bombers' main competition for the final playoff spot.

    CPRSMBt_Uw_AEyj_MO.jpg

    Sergio Castillo is on the roster.  I'm guessing the two healthy scratches will be Selvish Capers and D. Johnson, with Castillo coming on as the punter.

    Nick Moore out.  Justin Veltung in.

    For the first time in awhile we are not dressing a backup American defensive back.  Risky.

    Penton tweeted this out

    Sergio Castillo won't be dressing for the #Bombers tomorrow.

    Castillo and Capers look to be the scratches which means we're dressing 7 Dlineman.  I think we can expect a healthy dose of Mtl's run game.  Not expecting our O to really dominate time of possession so our D might be grinding it out on the field quite a bit.  I like this roster for that reason.  Both offences are struggling...this will likely be a defensive battle.  A bit shocked by Castillo coming on to the 46...but it gets him a game cheque and maybe sends a bit of a message to Lirim after he had arguably his worst game as a BB in the Banjo Bowl.  For the first time this year, I'm impressed with what appears to be strategic thinking from MOS and his coaching staff...

  8. D Johnson as well has taken reps in the middle, has played it in the past as well. Bass, Johnson and Randle would do more than what we have going on now. If Wild comes back maybe put him in Randles spot and put him back on the corner. He is more valuable there than where he is now.

    I thought Johnson played DE/Outside L'Backer in college...and that we primarily had him as a DE...I didn't know we had him taking MLB reps...it would be great if we had him playing in that spot in the "Cowboy" set we currently have Hurl lining up in on most plays

    Is it just me or are Picard's shotgun snaps terrible? When they're on-target, they're slow. When they're fast, they miss Willy's hands.

    getting old is a *****. At this point the best thing Picard brings to the field is punching guys in the nuts or whatever he does to piss people off.

    that's gold!!!

  10. We're still starting three Internationals on the Oline.  I was hoping Goosen would draw in ahead of Jones.  This again limits what we can do on the defensive side of the ball.  According to the depth chart 3 Nationals will have be on the field for every defensive snap...positions targeted again are on the

    Dline, (Thomas, Richardson, Pall)

    Dime Backer, (Sherman, West) and

    Field Corner, (Bucknor/Jones).

    Looks like our DI's are

    Stoudermire

    Hickman

    Kromah

    Unamba

    Surprised that Hickman draws in ahead of Gibson/Moseley...was Moseley injured?

    To get Sears back into the lineup at the Dime Backer position, (where he started the first two games) we need to be playing only 2 Internationals on the Oline...there are of course other ways to manipulate the ratio, (starting another National receiver over an International receiver etc) but based on the way we've worked the ratio this year, we need to start 3 Nationals on the Oline, 2 at receiver, and 2 for every defensive snap, (rotating DLine/Dime Backer positions and Field Corner).  That's how we did it for the first two games of the season...and we had pretty good results on D.

  11.

    disgusting depth at defensive line. and for fucks sake get sears on the roster!

    We've got two starters and the first guy off the bench hurt. How much name recognition do you expect there to be that far down the lineup?

    I am aware of the reasons, it's still gross looking and cause for concern.

    We could have - and IMHO should have - changed the ratio by adding another National on O...JFG starting ahead of a guy like Bryant...I mentioned in another post from a different topic that if we were starting 3 Internationals on the Oline, then our options were to continue with 3 Nationals on the field for every defensive snap, or adding another National starter to the Offence...I opined that the coaching staff would surely be looking at adding another National on O given our razor thin depth at National DT...I was wrong...

    This doesn't seem logical to me...starting 3 Nationals on D, (one position occupying the Dline for every snap rotating through Pall, Richardson and Thomas) as opposed to starting someone like JFG ahead of Bryant...does not seem like the lesser of two evils

    Hope it works out... :(

  12. If we have to start 3 Internationals on the Oline again...Pall may dress against BC, (in place of Cornell) unless

    • we use an undersized Norris or Briggs as a backup DL...starting 3 Internationals on the Oline means we have to have 3 Nationals on the field for every defensive snap...we've been placing Nationals on the Dline, (Richardson, Cornell, Thomas rotating) OLB, (Teague Sherman) and field Corner,(Bucknor).  Cornell is apparently out with a knee injury...we don't have any other (uninjured) National DLineman listed on the roster; or

    • The coaching staff could switch things up and start 5 Nationals on O, (replacing someone like Bryant with a National receiver) which means we would only have to have 2 Nationals on the field for every defensive snap...(Bucknor, Sherman or Thomas)...this would give us the flexibility to have 4 International D Lineman manning the Dline.

    It will be interesting to see what they do.  Neufeld still isn't ready to go...at the fan appreciation day Goosen told me that he's day to day...hope he can play and start...gives us more flexibility regarding our lineup.

    Dressing Pall probably isn't at the top of our list of options...I would think that if we start 3 Internationals on the Oline, the staff will look at adding another National on O to avoid having to start a National on the DLine based on our lack of depth...

  13. Depth chart indicates we'll have the same game day lineup as last week...so we'll be lining with 3 Nationals on D again for every defensive snap...targeted positions again are at DT, field corner, and WIL linebacker..Thomas, Bucknor, and Sherman...they can rotate with other Nationals...but can't be swapped out with an International if it means there will be less than 3 Nationals on the field...theoretically they could have 2 National D linemen on the field at the same time.,.and then swap Sherman out with an International..but I haven't seen that kind of combination this year...

    6th O lineman will again be Hinse

    DI's will be

    Unamba

    Anderson

    Kromah

    Stoudermire

    Hope this lineup on D can eliminate the huge mistakes they made last week...particularly Washington missing deep drops in zone coverage and the front seven getting lined up correctly...

    Looking forward to seeing continued growth and improvement from this squad...still wondering why Unamba draws in ahead of Sears...Sears is equally good if not better on ST's than Unamba...the primary and perhaps only edge Unamba has over Sears is that he's been healthy for every game...

  14.

    Start two Canadians on the line... we're not getting much push anyway

    Get Sears back in the lineup

    We don't need to start two Canadians on the line to get Sears back in...we just need the coaches to decide that he's better than Dunn and re-install him at the SAM L'Backer position, (I think Etch calls it the dime).

    That is WIL... but I agree

    Etch's verbage is different for sure...the SAM is the Dollar L'Backer in his system...cute...

    No... I mean SAM = DIME and WIL is Dollar, ha

    I miss the days of MLB and two OLBs

    LOL...sorry you're right...in any event...Sears slotting in at either OLB position, (Dollar/Dime or Nickel/Wil or whatever you want to call it) is an upgrade over Dunn IMHO...Having said that we can easily have both Dunn and Sears in the lineup if Neufeld/Goosen draw back into the lineup, (as per game 1 vs Toronto)...or even if we have 3 International OL as long as Sears draws in ahead of Unamba as the DI.

    O'shea didn't come here to please the media and the fans.

    His mandate is to turn around this football team and win games.

    Still have  a lot of works to be done but so far it's good.

    Some fans are pleased by wins.  Others need a healthy dose of calamity to enjoy life.  Reassurance that the sky is falling.

    IOWT

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

    Sorry.  It's a reflexive reaction to the idea that if you support a person that all their decisions are correct.  OShea is not infallible and his decisions are not beyond examination.  Mack was not all bad.  OShea is not all good.  (he's been pretty close so far though)

    Start two Canadians on the line... we're not getting much push anyway

    Other side - Sherman is in Sears' spot.  There are ratio implications with re-inserting Sears.

    There is no ratio issue if we put him on in place of Dunn.  I didn't realize they had Sears at WIL but I looked at the depth chart from the first game...you're right...last year towards the end of the year we had him at SAM...that's where I thought he and Banks were slotted during training camp...I still think he's a better fit at SAM than Dunn.
