  1. Holding is a reputation call in the CFL these days. Because the Riders o-line is known to be good they have a lot (nd I mean a LOT) more leeway with regards to how blatant is has to be to be called holding. It's not a conspiracy, it's just that the refs in the CFL are really bad.

    Compeletly agree.  The only thing I would add however is that Proulx seems to be the worst of a bad lot...having him officiate big games like the LDC isn't actually fair to him or the players/fans...it only exposes his incompetence to a much larger audience...it embarasses the CFL and Mr. Proulx personally...

  2. The thing that I like about Etchs D is that all of the different alignments make it difficult for offences to key on weak spots. Remember a few years ago when Labbe got owned by Whitaker at the MLB spot...in a traditional 40 set, (4 down lineman and 3 backers) I dont believe our D would be effective at all given our personnel and the ratio...ie having to start Thomas on the line and Sherman at WIL. They are doing well in this system but would be owned in a system like Burke's for example.

    Etch's system seems to smooth over those weak spots...given our National personnel and the limited depth...its a great system....but...on the last drive I noticed and even Brown noticed that we weren't lining up 2 DT over the centre...result being huge runs right up the gut.

    I commented some time ago that not going after Ted Laurent a National DT and upgrade to our National DT depth...was a mistake because we needed to start 2 Nationals on D and our depth was Thomas and Richardson at DT...no matter what system you run on D...if you're not strong up the middle you will get owned...Etch's apparent disregard of this simple fact is the most troubling aspect of D IMHO

  3. Hate to be Capt Obvious...but keys to winning this game are generally the same as every other game...

    For the players...

    Dont turn the ball over

    Control the clock...win the Time of Possession battle...keep their offense off the field as much as possible

    Execute the game plan in all three phases mistake free

    For the coaches...

    Make adjustments to the gameplan as required...

    If we do all of the above...we win...

  4. I'm disapointed Kromah's Off, and not sure why we're keeping Unamba on over Sears

    I've been really liking Fraser so I'm happy he's getting another chance

    I'm assuming Sears isn't a 100% or it has to do with his comment about the signature jerseys :)
    According to Sears he‘s been healthy since last week. http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/football/bombers/labour-day-hex-vexes-bombers-272988891.html
    Right Dr. Sears it is then. :) With his health history, if I'm the coach I'm not playing him until I'm completely sure he's healthy. Like any position, we need consistency at his position that requires more than 2 games and done.
    Sears was getting regular reps with the scout team D during practise this week. He was showing no ill effects...but I‘m not a doctor...
  5. Bob Irving @BobIrvingCJOB  ?  3h
    Steve Morley practicing with blue bombers but no pat neufeld again....look for Jarvis jones at right guard in Regina.

    If we start 3 Internationals on the Oline then our lineup will likely be close to last week's depth chart, subject to a few changes:

    http://cfl.uploads.mrx.ca/wpg/pdf/depth/2014/Depth080712.pdf

    Kuale will take Kromah's place;
    Jarvis Jones comes on and I'm guessing Cotton goes off

    Our DI's will likely be

    Stoudermire;
    Unamba;
    Fraser/Vega;
    Kuale

    The Depth chart from last week indicates that we started Thomas at DT; that's not really the case.  We ensured that at all times we had two Nationals on the field when our D was playing...Bucknor at corner and depending on the D package, either Sherman or Thomas.  One of them could be swapped out with an International as long we had two Nationals on the field at the same time

    Because it looks like we're starting Jarvis Jones at RG we will not be able to swap Sherman or Thomas out with an International.  Thomas and Sherman, (and their National backups) will have to be on the field for every defensive play along with Bucknor.

    On O we will start Morley, Greaves, Kohlert and Watson.

    It's concerning to me that we're facing the best run offence in the league; and we're stuck with one of our DT spots being platooned by Thomas/Cornell/Richardson...on the upside, we'll be rotating Anderson, Turner, Peach and Fraser/Vega so they'll be fresh...

    I'm not sure who comes off if Richardson plays...maybe Cornell

    Goosen was a spectator at yesterday's practise..I haven't heard as to whether or not he was an active participant today, (August 28).  It may be that Gord Hinse comes on as the 6th O Lineman.

  6. I'm not sure why Wild wasn't Defensive Player of the Week...Fraser and Vega were also rotating in with the first team D as was Louie Richardson...Based on what I saw at practise, it may be that they're toying with the idea of having our 4 DI's consist of

    one LB, (Kuale/Wild)

    one DB (looks like Unamba over Sears at this point)

    one returner, (looks like Stoudermire who also got reps with 1st team D)

    one DLineman, (instead of dressing Cotton)

    I think this makes sense given we know we're going to get a heavy of dose of Sask's run game.

    Cotton wasn't getting 1st team reps at this practise...I didn't see him in any of the packages on O either.

  7. I was at practise.  Goosen and Neufeld were spectators.  Jarvis Jones got all the reps that I saw at RG.  Sears played with scout team D.  I didn't see him rotate into the starting D at all...Unamba and Stoudermire did rotate into the starting D.  Looks like Kuale gets back into the lineup over Kromah based on personnel packages for starting D at this practise.
