  4. The only sorta issue is the weather is all over the place. It literally snowed last night here. Melted quick but it snowed and it’s still chilly at night and during the day. But maybe it’s better than late November but not really. So the Victoria Day start is gonna be interesting. It’s also the first real weekend ppl go camping or to the cabins here. Not sure about starting it then. Honestly thought it used to start then and got changed cuz weather and potential conflict with nhl playoffs, tv scheduling and contracts and what not.
  5. I look at the first round thing less as playoffs and more as a seeding round to determine which of the 6 slots each gets. Also, it may now be possible to have Grey Cup matches we never had before more easily.

  10. If anyone saw a lot of Daniels, it would have been Danny McManus; that is the area he scouts, and he was quick to say Daniels when Walters asked who we're going with.
  11. yeah for seeding reasons some those late season games that before were just splaying out the string may actually have consequence now and real meaning for who they could play...and if they could host a game. Pro's and cons to it...but more football being played is never a bad thing....and nothing worse than to have a dominant team a wrap up the division, only to drop a deuce for whatever reason and be bounced out in a one and done And even tho was always a bonus to get that wf/ef game...and good if it's your team....never really liked the win 1 game and your in idea.....now teams gotta earn it....and more revenue for league...teams and filtered down to players is never a bad thing
  12. They're only meaningless if you don't care about going to watch a playoff game in your stadium. Is it a meaningless game for the teams that are locked in 3/4 spots now when the winner gets to host the semi? Of course not, because as a fan you want your team hosting the playoff game. There are plenty of actually meaningless games with the current format. This will provide at least some meaning. 1&2nd spots get locked up early all the time. Generally those teams will have healthy attendance because they're playing well. The end of year games between 6&7 or 8&9 is where the drop off really is. This playoff format at least gives hope that they can make a run at the cup.
  13. Even before the NFL draft CFL teams know which guys are likely to get drafted by NFL teams or who has garnered serious interest and may get a UDFA contract....if your scouting crew and GM are connected they know....mini camp invites for a good majority of NCAA kids is usually a given as well, but for most part those never amount to anything other than a delayed arrival in camp here at worst Teams can also be given an extra pick in the following draft if they drafted a player who subsequently got drafted and signed a deal with guaranteed money as they are likely never to show up here....or may be a 2..3 yr delay...of we move our draft to before the NFL's
  14. The problem is they need people to be willing to pay money to watch a slate of meaningless games in the fall.
  15. was it not Condell in the Hammer who used that big bodied Global Robinson like a true TE with actually passing plays along with blocking schemes? Why a team doesnt utilize a guy with that size on any down from 7 yard's out or closer on the goaline to slide out and basically post up on an undersized SAM or corner inside the goaline is beyond me...It's easy pickens and the new threat for that totally opens up and goaline plunge from a RB
  16. What a bizarre stream of posts. You think this pick was entirely Walters driven? Because of a one minute clip? Walters is the facilitator on draft day as the guy in the GM seat, but to think he just dreamt this up without significant input from the coaching staff is insane. Think about this for one second: we just hired a new OC who has a decent history of using this type of player, we have never sought out this type of player until now and people are suggesting it’s just pure coincidence that we went out and got a guy like Daniels? I don’t know why people are so dead set on this “it’s gonna be one or the other” thing. They all work together. I have no idea how to feel about the Daniels pick but I know it wasn’t just Walters and the scouts cooking up the bright idea of snagging a tight end. That desire for sure came with a great deal of input from the coaching staff.
  17. It was so slow last night that I gave up.
  18. I think a lot of teams know what guys will likely stick and which will be looking for work sooner than later before the NFL draft happens now. It will add another wrinkle but I don't think there will be that many surprises. Yeah people online are complaining teams won't have any reason to play starters late in the year, like that doesn't already happen. Or ignoring that the CFL is in desperate need of the next generation of star players. Giving backups playing time will hopefully pay dividends if/when they become starters.
  19. Today
  20. That will likely be 2 weeks prior to the NFL Draft. So back to the problem the league had before of not knowing NFL status of potential CFL picks.
  21. It looks like the plan is to keep the timings similar for next year. Draft is April 13th. Rookie camp 21st. Training camp 24th. IMO just offer comp picks based on the status of your draft picks. NFL roster: Round -2, PR: Round -4, Futures contract: Round -6. Puts some onus on teams making sure their picks will play but doesn't completely screw the team if they don't show up. Can maybe extend it to include players like Damien Alford where if they dip after a year you can get a comp pick by forfeiting their rights or allowing them to become an RFA if they come back or something
  22. I kinda like it...and sure it may seem like parts of the reg season near the end may seem irrelevant....but also can keep things a lil more interesting and some those teams who were before out if it basically by labour day had declining attendance as nobody felt the need to support their team knowing they were not gonna be in the play-offs...so could create more butts in the seats which is a plus for teams And really in a CFL SMS world teams are pretty restricted as it is already sitting stars and bringing guys on in place of them...so I doubt you see a bunch of training camp style rosters playing games ...just not economically feasable...That being said tho it will also allow guys to get a chance to show they belong, and unearth that diamond in the rough or player biding his time with no real chance in hell of ever getting to show it...and create a new fan favorite and give those stubborn HC's who refuse to play guys an eye opener that yes...back-ups can perform....only gonna deepen and broaden your depth
  23. The NFL isn't moving their draft either. Are we going to have the CFL draft a week into training camp?
  24. Same problem the NFL solved by adding a 17th game $$$. No room to add more games to the regular season in the CFL so adding playoff games.
  25. Yes! 100% yes! Money is the reason. That's literally the bottom line. They 100% have to generate more of it. That's it. done. period. over. more money is why this is happening.
  26. i'VE been saying for a couple a yr I wish we would go with a true TE set and actually utilize that player as well as more than a glorified OL guy and have them have to be accounted for running out to catch a pass. We could have/should have been doing that with MCI and Clercius, especially when you are a run heavy offence, and spreading out the dline with that extra man, and having the SAM or WIL have to accout for dropping off in coverage....be a huge advantage for BO maybe with this signing we are looking to do so and him bumping Corcorran right off the roster is okay in my books. The idea of trying to convert into a lineman is just bad thinking...and if you wanted a lineman...draft one...More often than ot the "conversion" guys rarely pan out....Same with these ST only giys....Draft the best possible guys with rotational and or possible starter upside...they can play teams just as well as the guys with next to zero upside who you draft for ST work....why fill back half of roster with a nunch of nothing burgers when you can do the same with possible upside guys?.. I would hope the GM has final say and control of who is brought in....sure the collective has input and some sway, and was even said by the organization that Osh had too much sway on things...hopefully that has changed....Any HC will have and should have a standing order of what he wants...and why, but at end of the day it's the G.M's show and he's the architect....and looks like Walter's with some the off-season moves/decisons has taken most of that control back. I curious and look forward to what Condell may be cooking up and a lineup with that kid..MCI...and Big Kev in multi use roles...and actually used....can be very beneficial....that being said...I doubt we needed to trade up to get him unless Walter's and his scouting team had info from connections and talking to coaches of him that other teams were very interested in him too...which could have been the case.... was stated in media as well that Osh has had too much control...and a lot has been taken back by all accounts....which is a good thing and not just a "bias" against Osh...tho a lot of the negative biases many have with him he rightfully earned
  27. the gm vs coach thing started because goalie claimed based of a 1 minute clip that MOS is just there to be there. All I'm saying is that a 1 minute clip doesn't prove anything. Yes the GM is the main guy during the draft. But coaches also play a role. This isn't a 1 or the other situation.
  28. This change in playoff format just reminds me again how I wish there were more teams in this league. Sigh. Like some others have stated, I'm not sure what problem is trying to be solved here. $$? You would think it will change the approach teams take with their starting roster as the playoffs draw closer. What it doesn't change is Riders suck.
  29. Do teams like Toronto actually make any money hosting games though? It was reported last year that low attendance in major markets (Toronto, Montreal, BC) meant that they had trouble covering their high operating costs. Teams like Winnipeg & Saskatchewan absolutely benefit from the extra games but the other teams?
  30. Zero say and final say are two different things. Walter's had 100% final say on the Daniel's pick. This was NOT a pick lobbied for by OSH at 10. 100% Kyle's selling the Daniel's pick to the room.
  31. Ya he really seems like a taller version of Bettman....
  32. He also has a shitty attitude of "F*** the few paying fans we already have, they'll just have to get over it."
  33. Not saying coaches have zero say.... But by watching that clip, it was very much Kyle's show. He's running ****. It was definitely very interesting to see him THAT animated about a guy... It changed my tune a bit re: Dante, to "let's at least give this a shot and see"... But anyone who thinks the Bombers had a bad draft and want to blame that on Osh because of biases, I'm convinced that's just totally wrong. Walters was very much in charge last night.
