Maybe or it can be a case of Wilson being with the team for a few years feeling like he’s earned his keep and should be the back up, but wasn’t re assured ( nor should he be) and decided to quit. I’m not overly concerned. Thorpe by all accounts has interests else where. I’m going to believe it’s a case they believe in the guys currently on the roster at the quarterback position are going to be in a position to make the team better. I would feel the same way. Wilson is a good short yardage guy but if he’s never going to be a starter, and he’s not a specialist like Stevens really why would we continue to put time and reps.

All I know is tomorrow is going to be VERY interesting. In some ways, Condell's job just got way easier, but if both TE and BP look like ****, it just got way harder. Pray for the former...

Brilliant. Will be stealing and passing off as my own. As to the rest of the post, I just think this was the plan all off season. We never brought in a vet QB, even before Ermergerdsma was signed. Perkins was signed with the hope that he could fill the Streveler role. Whether that’s purely SY or the primary backup will likely depend on how the preseason goes, but I’m putting my money on Ermergerdsma.

Character & leadership. Something Perkins & Wilson don't appear to have. If they still want to play then quitting isn't going to help convince other teams to give them a chance. I can see someone like Jake Dolegala or Mason Fine signed as a fourth qb. They have never quit. Wilson was a waste of time.

It's not terribly hard to see why either guy left from a football stand point. As a P4 QB, it's possible that Thorne made more money than Collaros last year and he was likely going to be on the PR. It's possible that Elgersma is going to be QB2, and Wilson would be going on his 3rd straight year of QB3 if he were to beat out Perkins. Yeah you are playing professional football, but at what point do you pull the plug? He wouldn't be the first person to quit after a few years of not getting Second-team reps, and he won't be the last I'm sure.

It’s possible there’s some family/personal issue that will make us look like jerks for calling him a quitter, but you have to think the team would have stated that in the press release if that’s the case.

I find it extremely strange that two QBs are walking away. Extremely unusual. Even if Wilson could see the writing on the wall, he should at least keep grinding in case someone gets hurt or something else happens. Don't cut yourself, make them cut you. He still could have won the #3 job and had a nice football salary for another year. Very, very weird.

I think bryce and elgersma made them quit. Thorne because no chance at qb3/4 and wilson because he wasn’t going into games as qb2. yep. now maybe small chance it’s some family stuff or some thing important that took him away. but if that happened we would hear about it soon at the latest as much a vet as wilson was. All 3 are in the same tier. No real live regular season action. Dividing up cfl tc vs nfl pre season regular season ufl play offs etc is beyond splitting hairs

He’s more of a veteran in that he’s played professional football before. Wilson shouldn’t have been kept around unless he had made major progress, so no big loss. Have to imagine they will bring someone else in, need at least 1 QB on the PR

Perkins is a veteran pro, just not a veteran CFL pro. Multiple years in NFL, UFL MVP, etc.

How is Perkins a veteran back up? He's no more a veteran than Ermergerdsma. This game tomorrow will determine a lot. If the two rookies look good, they won't airlift a veteran like MBT or whatever... They'll find a neg lister to bring in. If the rookies look like ass, however, then they might panic and being in someone with CFL experience (a "veteran", if you will ..)

Elgersma has been getting second team reps the entire camp. Perkins can be the SY guy and veteran ban-aid if needed. Thorne could have been our PR guy - but I guess didn't want to. But Wilson was getting cut if he didn't force himself into the back-up role and he didn't. So he beat Walters to the punch.

Apparently Busch was in more trouble than he thought, well you're burning up and coughing up blood it might be too late and apparently it was. There is talk he might of had a blood clot.

I'm not too sad to see Wilson leave, it's clear Elgersma will be the next QB hope (whether it works is TBD). It is definitely concerning that we have no other CFL experienced QB on the roster behind Zach. Wonder if we try to change that.
