The supplemental draft is tomorrow?  That's not nearly enough time to build up disproportionate amounts of hype.  Roll this thing back a week.  And camp.  And the season.  It's going to be worth it.

Apparently thanks to Dom Picard, Nic Moore, and the stadium debacle, Kyle is well over the cap and over budget so what's the point of drafting anybody?  And then, if we do draft them, no one is going to be able to watch the guy practice at training camp.  And look out if he only signs a two year deal, the world will go into full apocalypse mode.

Yep, one-year-pay-as-you-go contracts looks like the way to go from now on.

WINNIPEG, MB The Winnipeg Blue Bombers emphasized defence with their picks in the 2004 Canadian College Draft, as three of their four selections come on the defensive side of the football.

 

The Blue & Gold selected Simon Fraser linebacker Neil McKinlay, Calgary linebacker Ryan Folk and Waterloo safety John Sullivan in todays draft, held via teleconference call from the CFLs head office in Toronto. Folk, a linebacker in college, is expected to be moved to safety at the Blue Bombers training camp.

 

Winnipeg used its other selection to obtain the leading punter in Canadian College Football, Reginas Jon Ryan.

 

Earlier this year, the Big Blue traded picks in the 2004 draft to obtain centre Corey Annett and fullback Randy Bowles from Toronto along with wide receiver/kick returner Keith Stokes from Montréal. They also used their 2nd Round pick (16th overall) to get Winnipegs 2003 Rookie of the Year, safety Joe Morgan.

 

Were very pleased with the talent we acquired today, said wide receivers coach and Canadian College Draft coordinator Bob Dyce. We shored up some areas where we needed more talent. When you add the players selected today with those we acquired through trade with draft picks, this was a very successful draft for the Blue Bombers.

With Westerman and a few NI backups already on the roster, why do we need to trade for a DT?

I don't think the Ticats are dealing defensive linemen, and the guys they would trade aren't very good with Gaydosh going down.

That question came up a few years ago, and I recall the answer to be that your classification does not change once you have entered the league - if you come in as an import, you are always an import.  Now maybe they've changed that policy since then, or maybe I'm remembering incorrectly, but if there's a chance a guy can become a NI by going thru the process, it's in all parties best interests to wait it out - the player can command a higher salary with NI status.

Is the draft tomorrow blind bidding or does each GM know what the other GMs bid?

It goes sequentially and I believe each GM knows the previous highest bid.
