The Wild Card race aka hockey's Final Four

This topic is for teams in the Wild Card race.

L.A.: We can write off L.A. as being a concern. After hibernating for most of the season the Cup champs have woken up and have won 8 in a row. No surprise. When you've won multiple cups recently you can take 50 games off and turn on the power when you need to.

4 teams - 2 spots...

Calgary: Kings play lately has knocked them down into the Wild Card race but they have a March schedule that is the best of all the teams included in this post. 15 games(7 home) with 10 against teams below them currently in the standings.

Minnesota: Pulled off the trade/gift of the year by getting Dubnyk. 14 games(8 home) in March and 6 against teams below them currently in the standings.

Winnipeg: 14 games(8 at home) and 5 against teams currently below us in the standings.

San Jose: Has a brutal March schedule. Of their 13 games they only play 3 teams below them currently in the standings. On the plus side, the least amount of games.

And the rest...

DAL/COL: Can not find the post from last fall but I called DAL/COL as missing the playoffs this year and that's holding up. Really seeing nothing changing in that department plus I just can't be wrong in my predictions :)

Conclusion...

Advantage Calgary/Minnesota

Or we could just win again and say to hell with them both

  • sweep the leg

It would be nice to win tomorrow and end it there. Let Pavelec sit the final game of the season.

  • I'm gonna say it, but Chicago is a team that i could see struggling down the stretch too, They are without Patrick Kane now and their D leaves lots to  be desired, Jets aren't far back of them actuall

Minnesota +2 = 98 pts (claim 1st Wild card spot) Quack!

I thought they've clinched a playoff spot but not the 1st wild card spot. Wild have a couple tough games to close the season (Nashville and St. Louis) - they lose out and we win out, we have more points.

My bad. Who wants to play Anaheim tho? That team is together.

Hockey gods were not on LA's side tonight

Well they did get that goal from center ice.

I'm not sure whether my heart can stand it. We win 1 more game or Kings lose 1 more and we're in. Big game against the Avs on Thursday and here's hoping the Flames beat the Kings too.

As of right now, the 2nd wild card team would play Anaheim, wouldn't they. They have 107 points to the Blues 105. Blues, Preds and Hawks have tougher last 2 games than Anaheim has as well.

Just to clarify, The Kings need to lose in regualtion for us to make the playoffs.

If they win and we lose to the Avs in regualtion, the Flames game is huge.

If we make the playoffs on Thursday and cannot make the 1st wild card spot, I would play Hutch on Saturday and also rest some people and see what Copp and others look like.

Not exactly. Most kings can get is 97 points. We have 96. We win one game or go 1-0-1. Kings can win out and we still in.

Kinda what I said no?

If the kings lose in regulation they are done. If jets win in regulation or ot or Shootout and kings win. Kings are done

haha

not sure if you are disagreeing with me or not?

all i know is, the Jets will beat the Avs tomorrow and clinch a spot.

Honestly I would keep playing Pav all the way regardless. One game of rest... I don't see the value. Change as little as possible because the team is rolling and you don't want to knock them off course.

if the Jets clinch tomorrow, it's an interesting decision for Maurice.  Not playing Pavs on Saturday leaves a pretty long lay off before the Playoffs.  On the other hand, shouldnt they get Hutch some game action?

Knowing Maurice, he'd say Pavs wants to play and Pavs deserves to play.

If the Jets win today (please), you'll see all healthy press box players and dancing gabe in the line-up against Calgary.

I know I shouldn't, but I just laughed right out loud...

I think that depends on whether we have a chance at the first wild card spot...if Minny wins tonight, we don't have a chance but if we win and Minny loses, we still have a chance at the first wild card spot.

Speculation abounds that some guys are very banged up. Clinching tonight and it might be more valuable to give them the long rest than shoot for one spot higher in the standings which really only benefits us if we play the Wild in the conference final.

I would rather see them play the Blues or Preds than the Ducks....my opinion.

Pretty much anyone but the Ducks, at this point...

I bet the teams at the top are saying anyone but Winnipeg.. Winnipeg is a type of team even if you win its going to take so much out of you that it will affect you later down the road.

It'll be fun downtown tonight, if when the Jets win this game.

huge party will be happening I expect.

It's gonna be windy lol

Pacific is the easier route. Boudreau teams are soft in the playoffs and Anaheim's point total was inflated by playing 5 non playoff teams 6 times each or whatever it is. Second round looks even better if it is the winner of Van Cgy. Line the Ducks up, they're the easier target.

I agree. Ducks are vulnerable

But could still face st louis

Won't have any trouble getting up for St Louis. Not as much emotion against ducks.

Ducks are vulnerable tho. Iffy goaltending. A few games or 2 would get it going. They could play buffalo and I'd be jacked watching it. PLAYOFFS! !!

They probably don't care who they play.

Wish we were playing Nashville. They are going out first round.
