The Wild Card race aka hockey's Final Four

This topic is for teams in the Wild Card race.

L.A.: We can write off L.A. as being a concern. After hibernating for most of the season the Cup champs have woken up and have won 8 in a row. No surprise. When you've won multiple cups recently you can take 50 games off and turn on the power when you need to.

4 teams - 2 spots...

Calgary: Kings play lately has knocked them down into the Wild Card race but they have a March schedule that is the best of all the teams included in this post. 15 games(7 home) with 10 against teams below them currently in the standings.

Minnesota: Pulled off the trade/gift of the year by getting Dubnyk. 14 games(8 home) in March and 6 against teams below them currently in the standings.

Winnipeg: 14 games(8 at home) and 5 against teams currently below us in the standings.

San Jose: Has a brutal March schedule. Of their 13 games they only play 3 teams below them currently in the standings. On the plus side, the least amount of games.

And the rest...

DAL/COL: Can not find the post from last fall but I called DAL/COL as missing the playoffs this year and that's holding up. Really seeing nothing changing in that department plus I just can't be wrong in my predictions :)

Conclusion...

Advantage Calgary/Minnesota

Or we could just win again and say to hell with them both

It would be nice to win tomorrow and end it there. Let Pavelec sit the final game of the season.

  • I'm gonna say it, but Chicago is a team that i could see struggling down the stretch too, They are without Patrick Kane now and their D leaves lots to  be desired, Jets aren't far back of them actuall

Leafs are bound to win eventually, why not tonight lol. Honestly of all the games tonight, the teams i could see losing are Minny and LA. But i think if Minny loses, the Jets do too. The Jets/Wild spot is probably gonna come down to who wins that game a couple weeks from now, Jets vs Wild will be a huge game coming up.

Everyone wins.

It's amazing how the West's wildcard race is running in lockstep: Calgary, Minnesota, LA, and the Jets all have 14 points over the last 10 games. Vancouver has 13 points and Chicago 15. No one's made up any ground in March.

Tomorrow is big. Kings at rangers. Wild at nyi. Jets at Vancouver.

So do we cheer for Minny or Calgary tonight

I'm cheering for a clean win .... need a 2 point game here, not 3.

Minn. They are 3 regulation wins up on us while Cal is only 1 win up.

Whoever survives this wild card marathon is going to put a scare in the west's top teams -- every marginal playoff team in the west is playing great right now, while the division leaders are cooling off a bit.

Funny with less than 9 games for most teams only one has clinched a playoff spot. The distance between the top 9 teams in each division is not that great.

I am not being a smartass but why would someone want Minny to win?

If Calgary wins, they are still behind us and would knock LA down below us.

LA plays Minny on Saturday and if LA wins and we beat Chitown on Sunday, we have the 1st wildcard spot.

Minny can't keep this up forever...........can they?

I think I'm more confident in Calgary dropping out than Minny or LA so Calgary can go on a four game losing streak on the road starting in Minny tonight.

I think you always want to keep teams behind you. If it comes down to us and Calgary they currently have the tie breaker. Better for Minnesota to run away from us than for us to miss 8th hoping to catch 7th

Minny wins. Calgary gets zero points

Great result! Jets playoff odds would have dropped with a Flames win, as it stands our chances improved pretty significantly.

Hawks and Stars lost as well.

I don't think last game will matter can rest a couple guys. Also win on Sunday and are 2 points behind Chicago.
