New TV Contract

https://3downnation.com/2026/01/14/cfl-sets-start-of-2026-season-as-self-imposed-deadline-for-new-broadcast-deal/

Well, same ****, different year. The CFL screwed itself 100 times over by going to a single game provider in 2008. The other networks basically said, Eff You. Now, they're stuck with a shitty provider who chronically underpays because they can do what they want. And a former TSN president negotiating with his old company?? What good can come from that?

  • Sounds like $500 Million over 6 years. 66% increase over the last deal. Each team should get about an extra $3.5 million/yr.

  • I'm really curious to know why everyone seems to think DAZN is so low on the totem pole. They're huge outside of the US. Their NFL service in Canada is great. I hate the price, but the quality is amaz

  • Because the greedy fucks who make decisions don't realize that people don't want 1000 subscription payments to watch everything. They want 1 or 2 places to get what they want. More than that piracy is

It’s pretty typical of any sports league to have to pay for more than one service to get every games.

How many other leagues only have 4 games a week max?

Crave would have been a better option. At least more people have it.

Crave is Bell though too.

And also like $30/month isn’t it?

Thought it was cheaper.

My bigger point was a service people already have (see Netflik having NFL games or Prime having basketball or hockey games) is different than a service many don't have.

With HBO something like that. We get a bundle deal putting crave and TSN together for the season

Crave basically started out as the movie channels on cable packages. It was the place movies hit first after ppv. It was the way to get HBO. Which is why it had the premium price tag. Since everything needs to be streaming now bell turned it into its own streaming service.

My favorite complaint about the new deal was shared by DT on the pre-game show last night. "The CFL wasn't considering fans who dont have the internet with this deal. My 80+ yrd old mother doesnt have the internet and is upset she wont be able to watch all the games."

Like...ya that does suck for your mother. But no professional league anywhere is making considerations for people (regardless of age) who dont have the internet, its 2026. I suppose it can be tough to hear that you're no longer the target audience of your favorite TV program.

Even homeless people have internet... the number of people without internet must be extremely small.

The internet now exists at my cabin for a ridiculous fee but we pay per month of use we are there and in winter we don’t. Internet is everywhere. I’ll say this bell just sent me a free crave TV thing, that might be the better long term cfl streaming app but maybe they got good international numbers on cfl plus and dazn is more international. But if you want ppl to watch pre season games you gonna have to make production at least amateurish as opposed to the stupidity that was yesterdays cfl plus and I get that’s YouTube but production levels were embarrassingly bad. The Buffalo Gals have a studio here, they could spruce it up. lol.

Have they announced what the break down is between who is paying the 500 million? The reports keep saying DAZN this and that... what if Bell is paying 450 million and Dazn only 50 million or something along those lines? I'd be curious to know the breakdown.

I don't think TSN or Bell is paying that much as they've undervalued the CFL for decades.

DAZN doesn't fix that problem. Your son will now be able to easily find 20% of the games. Big whoop!

Tyler couldn't find 75% of the games before so it is a big whoop. He could have as he is as tech savvy as most of you guys but he just said, "**** it". Great tv deal making American fans jump thru hoops for a measley hundred thousand dollars a year per team. Typical Ambrosie.
