As much as it pains me to say a healthy prime bighill much better than Jones. Honestly if I’m the bombers I don’t bring AB back but I also don’t hand the starters spot to Jones, he’s ok but I feel like there’s better out there. Most teams have a better lb than jones. I dunno. 

Healthy prime bighill is legit one of the best players in the league.... but it's not 2019 anymore... that was 5 years ago.

Jones is good and currently cheap, that's important with a number of higher profile players heading towards FA.

It would seem that this situation might be added to a long list of previous examples where an athlete does not go out on his terms but forced by others to accept reality and exit stage right.

But we can still be excited about his award last night and not **** on the guy just because he's still hanging on. I think there were some weirdly bitter posts about him winning the Pate last night just because of recent issues. People need to remember how important he was to this team prior to last year. He's one of the best ever and that can't be taken away from him. Also a legitimately GREAT dude who does so much in t community. It's awesome to see him be rewarded.

Knowing I'm not an expert and knowing he's 29 but my guess is Jones may have a bit more room before he reaches his full potential. Needs to hurry up though. 🙂

Zach hinted last game Biggie could be the next Prez. of the CFLPA, with his business background kind of makes sense, following in the footsteps of his old partner Soli.

And yes I love the guy and what he does but there is still that stark reality of being an elite athlete. Not shitting on him at all, I least I'm not, just thinking of the team moving forward as well.

I would hope we are done with the awarding of starter spots regardless of TC....Impressive play...or you're a rookie...etc......thats what got us in a bit of a issue before...and we still not totally out of it

Jone's definitely deserves to come to camp as the incumbent, but has to have challengers and has to earn it..be it a guy already here in...a new guy next yr....or FA signing

This idea of you need to be around a yr or two before you can be a starter is B.S....seems to only happen here unless an injury dictates otherwise, or a player defects

I'd take Anderson from the Elks over pretty much any of our current guys...he was allowed to earn the spot...grow into it...and is a legit stud now

 

I fully expect BA to be back in camp next year. Maybe he takes a reduced role (and paycheque) and helps groom his replacement. 

My guess is for some players, the choices they make for next season will be dictated on what the game outcome is this Sunday.

You can't have Anderson, he's still on his ELC.  They're also not likely to go after a high profile MLB due to higher cost or plug a CFL rookie into such a vital position.  Next year's MLB is most likely on the team now and it's not an area of concern.

i know...I meant that in if we had our own Anderson we allowed to play into a stud...as opposed to take a seat behind tenured...decling injury prone vets

And to me any ara of concern is one where you dont have a top 3..4 player....or viable predecesor/back-up.....we have several areas of concern

Wouldn't awarding Milligan the MODP (look INT's but not best clampdown DB) be equivalent to awarding BLM something for his productivity (look threw for a league-best 5,451 yards and 32 touchdowns but didn't help the team make the playoffs)?

Or maybe I'm being too harsh on both these players because football is indeed the ultimate team sport.

I would guess the primary concern on D. is re-signing or replacing Ford and Holm, everything else seems secondary.

why would it pain you to say that?... of course a healthy, prime Bighill was SIGNIFICANTLY better than Jones... he is literally one of the best ever in his prime... You're letting the last couple years taint your memory of one of the all-time greats

Yep, if we still have a healthy prime Biggie, there's not even a conversation to be had but that guy doesn't exist anymore.

Prime healthy Biggie left us late 2021....Good rotational vet leader Biggie showed up in 2022, and after that.....depth role Biggie arrived....but someone here didn't see it that way

Rider fans complaining Mace got hosed on COY. Did they forget that the award is for the 18 game regular season and doesn’t reflect the playoffs? It should have been O’Shea/Mass based on overall record and getting their teams to first in their respective divisions. I think Mace did a great job this year taking a non playoff team to second in the West but O’Shea starting out 0-4 and rattling off first is much more impressive. Being that it was Mass/ Mace then Mass winning makes sense to me.

They would have missed the playoffs if they were in the East. Glad to see that being mediocre is still acceptable in Saskatchewan. They even want awards for it.

Awards and all star selections mean a lot more when you’ve only won 4 championships in over 100 years give them a break!
