Covid-19

I'm starting this thread as a side discussion of all things Corona Virus related. I understand that this is going to be discussed in almost all other topic threads but we could collect news and other items here.

At work, many conferences have been cancelled.

NBA - Suspended.

NHL - About to be suspended.

NCAA March Madness - Playing - no crowd.

Political Rallies have been cancelled.

Travel bans.

Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks tested positive. They're in Australia where testing is available. If they were in the US, they wouldn't have been tested.

They announced it at the end in passing and limited the questions to one for each reporter. So, no opportunity to get more details.

**** off with this do everything right BS.

Go back and watch the full presser. Was talked about immediately after announcing the changes in orders. Answered more than a couple questions including the date of they original test ( Jan 21) , test sent for sequencing as they started doing with all international tests, 5 household contacts who needed to isolate for 24 days to ensure not spread.

Being the infectious disease expert you are what else should they have done?

What does being an infectious disease expert have to do with leaving the most important release until the end? They're sitting there talking about opening up again to start the third wave and they neglect to tell everyone until the end that a more contagious and more deadly Covid variant has been detected in the province.

But, no, let's talk about getting Smitty's open at 25% capacity, again.

You are failing to understand that the caught it because their precautions worked and the transmission chain ended.

Really is a non story other than a reminder to everyone that we need to be careful and reinforces the need for travel restrictions.

Winnipeg

21 new cases.

Only 10 active ICU patients in Winnipeg.

Of the active cases only 515 are from Winnipeg.

Rumors are the variant was found in a case from the north.

Encouraging, but will hold my breath for the next two weeks to see if the variants show up in numbers.

I'm convinced that by the end of March, we're going to see skyrocketing numbers because of the UK variant. Not sure about Manitoba, but the larger provinces for sure...AB, I think we're right ******...

Too cold to go out, hence low numbers. Shocked shocked but not that shocked.

if it has to come to this then I hope my workplace will give us more masks, even tough the masks I do wear don't need the paper towel or coffee filter to be inserted

Bad News For Alberta?  People with dementia are twice as likely to contract COVID-19, according to new study

Recently, scientists have discovered peculiar connections between neurological conditions and COVID-19 risk. We know that there is a heightened risk of dying of COVID-19 complications for those with schizophrenia. Now, this week comes a new study which finds that people with dementia are twice as likely to contract COVID-19 as those without the deadly cognitive disease.

The study, which was mainly written by researchers from Case Western University and published on Tuesday in Alzheimer's & Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer's Association, analyzed electronic health record data for nearly 62 million Americans adults.

Winnipeg TP 3.9%

Is it just me or is it stupid to hang around an indoor public space for anywhere between 30mins to an hour, where a group of maskless people are just 8 feet away from another maskless group who are also themselves 8 feet away from another maskless group? All the while have a person going back and forth from each group?

Then why dafuq are they opening up indoor dining?

honestly, how many times does this have to be explained? Jesus...

Right. I don't know why people look to that Chris twitter account. the percentage is what matters and he never posts it.

This is worrisome considering both vaccines (Moderna/pfizer) don't stop those who have them from spreading it. The vaccines stop people from dying/getting seriously sick. But don't stop people from getting it or spreading it.
