Covid-19

I'm starting this thread as a side discussion of all things Corona Virus related. I understand that this is going to be discussed in almost all other topic threads but we could collect news and other items here.

At work, many conferences have been cancelled.

NBA - Suspended.

NHL - About to be suspended.

NCAA March Madness - Playing - no crowd.

Political Rallies have been cancelled.

Travel bans.

Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks tested positive. They're in Australia where testing is available. If they were in the US, they wouldn't have been tested.

Former Alberta Municipal Affairs Minister Tracy Allard who resigned her portfolio yesterday flew to Hawaii this year despite the travel restrictions because for the past 17 years her family has spent Xmas in Hawaii. Didn't want to break with that tradition. How many of us can afford to vacay in Hawaii every Xmas & bring family for one year let alone 17? Out of touch with reality.

Are you intimating that she was answerable to the unwashed rabble?

On the other hand, if you can afford to go on a vacation you dont need the CRSB.

1 In 2 Canadians Broke COVID-19 Rules Over The Holidays, Poll Suggests. OTTAWA — A new survey suggests nearly half of Canadians visited with family or friends over the winter holiday period.

The poll by Léger and the Association for Canadian Studies found 48 per cent of those surveyed visited with people outside their households, compared to 52 per cent who said they did not.

Public health officials had pleaded with Canadians to sharply limit their contacts during the holidays to avoid massive spikes in COVID-19 cases. But it appears something gave for Canadians, said Léger vice-president Christian Bourque.

“Usually, we Canadians are sort of much more, I would say, disciplined when it comes to going by what governments are recommending in terms of our behaviour, but over the holidays, apparently, it was sort of tougher on Canadians,” he said.

Of those who did visit with friends or family outside their homes, 34 per cent did once, 12 per cent did two or three times, and two per cent did it often.

Not. Good. Enough.  We are seeing the results of holiday gatherings.

77 in the Winnipeg Health region.

I was going to say that 130 new cases isn't bad- but then I saw we didn't do very many tests.

"Winnipeg health region
Laboratory testing numbers show 1,264"

Gonna have a week of this, thanks to the brain-dead who have valued their socializing more than the lives of their fellow citizens.

At an afternoon news conference, deputy chief provincial public health officer Dr. Jazz Atwal said nearly 60 COVID-19 cases and 400 close contacts have been linked to recent holiday gatherings.

Those just were the ones who admitted it.

It's beginning to look like a covid Christmas.

Test Positivity for the Province has dipped below 10%, at 9.9%. Winnipeg is still higher at 10.5%.

That's good news but hardly anywhere near where it should be two months after the "circuit breaker" Code Red.

And, we found out today that the Province will not vaccinate everyone that wants a vaccine by the end of the year. Brian told us that they could vaccinate everyone by the end of March, if they had the supply. So, it's either that we're not going to have enough doses or Brian was lying. Seeing as his lips were moving, I bet the Premier was lying.

Will be interesting to see if they will lift any restrictions tomorrow, unfortunately I see a rise in cases for the next little while as for vaccination as long as we can get 75% or higher of people who want the vaccine immunized that will help in the grand scheme of things

Yes, every vaccine helps, especially with those that are vulnerable or those that are caring for the vulnerable.

Pallister wanting to open the economy (move from Red to Orange) by the end of January. If things keep going up, as we suspect based on Christmas gatherings, I just don't see how he can do that in good conscience.
