He should be grateful he got to play so many years in the best pro hockey league in the world with minimal talent with the exception of dropping his gloves.

The worst part of expansion is that the Jets would lose someone very very good.

Arizona still in limbo?

It wont be expansion... It will be relocation. Nobody in Seattle was willing to put up 500 million.

One way or another the league will take their cut,  if this goes through I see Seattle with both Hockey and Basketball very soon.

Kings/Clippers

Kings have a new arena to play in while the Clippers play second banana to the Lakers.

WHOA! King just playing here or are the Flames in trouble?!

It's all a political game , Calgary trying to keep up with the Jones's in this case the Oilers and their state of the art castle and the politicians in Calgary not wanting to play ball.  Longer this takes the more it will cost. Maybe some of our Calgary friends can give us a better perspective.

Good timing.  Flames fans will see Seattle in their future and rally against politicians.

Smoke and mirrors move....they're just trying to force politicians hand. The Saddledome is a giant piece of ****, and they desperately need a new barn, regardless of cost, but southern Albertans are SO unbelievably against any kind of public spending, it'll just never happen until the oil industry comes back around and it can be fully privately funded. Orrrrrrr.......if they get the 2026 Olys.......

Nenshi hates sports and won't play ball, with the economy in the shitter compared to what it was when the Oilers got their new arena and Liberals in power federally there is no political will at all to build an arena in Alberta anymore and the Flames will have to try all the tricks they can. I expect to hear about the Flames top brass visiting Seattle sometime to try and put pressure on Calgary.

The Flames won't go anywhere though, the NHL isn't going to let that happen and neither is the saddledome so bad they can't make a go of it just yet. They got time before things get to that point.

Here's hoping the Flames fans throw the pressure right back where it belongs; at the owners feet.   Good on the mayor for not budging.

The government should be willing to invest to a degree.  But the bulk of funding should be private.  The nearly $2 billion pie-in-the-sky dream was wonderful but crazy.

Why should governments fund arenas for wealthy owners and franchises worth hundreds of millions?

Because its an investment in the community.  For example, a lot of people were angry when Manitoba put money for MTSC.  I remember when they had a presser a few years later to announce the investment was complete paid back through new taxation as a result of the arena being built.  Thats a small price to pay.

there is direct return in the form of new and increased taxation.  There is indirect return in the form of increases taxes for all the things around the arena.  There is abstract return in the form of renewed development in the area.  And then measure the "feel good" aspect of having a world class facility, NHL team, people downtown etc.

I 100% believe there is absolutely a place for government investment.  They get a return so asking them to kick in isnt asking too much.

The rivalry between the Avalanche and the Red Wings at that time was absolutely incredible. Some wild, wild games/series between those two teams.

Well... Ill be
