US Politics

Lets see if we can keep this thread a little more civil.

I found this interview very interesting.  A lot of soft balls thrown at Trump, he explained his back pedalling on his more extreme issues as a lot of his claims as opening bids for negotiation purposes.  Which .. whatever .. I still think that those are insincere claims he used to get elected.

He does now come across way more presidential then he did prior to the election.  A lot of his noise, yelling, and rhetoric has been scaled back.

Do respect this one though:

Quote

Lesley Stahl: Are you gonna take the salary, the president’s salary?

Donald Trump: Well, I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is no. I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. But it’s a -- I don’t even know what it is.

Donald Trump: Do you know what the salary is?

Lesley Stahl: $400,000 you’re giving up.

Donald Trump: No, I’m not gonna take the salary. I’m not taking it.

The Secret service member on Trumps detail erased their text messages to save Trump so their bosses decided to have everyone involved delete all their messages from those days to make it look like it was a mistake and or glitch. Subpoena the lot of then and get then on the record recalling the events in question

Trump-appointed Secret Service watchdog knew about deleted texts — but didn’t tell Congress: report. DHS Inspector General Joseph Cuffari, a former Republican advisor, previously quashed Secret Service probes

The Department of Homeland Security's Office of Inspector General learned that the Secret Service deleted nearly all texts from Jan. 6 but did not inform Congress, according to The Washington Post.

Two whistleblowers who worked with Inspector General Joseph Cuffari, who was appointed by former President Donald Trump after serving as an advisor to Republican Arizona Governor Doug Ducey and former Gov. Jan Brewer, revealed the months-long delay in reporting a purge of Secret Service texts that has come under scrutiny by the Jan. 6 committee, according to the report.

One whistleblower reported the decision by Cuffari's office not to disclose the purge to the Project on Government Oversight (POGO), an independent watchdog group, which then relayed the information to congressional staff. Staffers then corroborated the account with a second whistleblower, according to the Post.

Cuffari's office in October 2021 had also prepared a public alert sounding the alarm that the Secret Service and other divisions of DHS were stonewalling it on requests for records and texts around the time of the Capitol riot but never issued it, sources told the outlet.

Mike Pence's Security Detail Feared For Their Lives During Jan. 6 Capitol Riot

Members of former Vice President Mike Pence’s security detail were so afraid for their lives during the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot that they made calls over radio to say goodbye to their family members, according to testimony given to the House committee investigating the attack.

“The members of the VP detail at this time were starting to fear for their own lives,” a former White House national security official said in testimony to the committee that aired in a hearing on Thursday.

The official’s identity was withheld for security reasons.

“There was a lot of yelling, a lot of very personal calls over the radio,” the official added. “It was disturbing. I don’t like talking about it, but there were calls to say goodbye to family members. The VP detail thought that this was going to get very ugly.

Steve Bannon is found guilty after his lawyers refused to present a defence. He is now liable for a $100,000 file and/or 30 days in jail. Trumpsters will raise the money, no problem but I hope he gets 30 days in a super max.

Instant Karma!

There is a joke in there and its Donald J. Trump. And I fear that the worst is yet to come. Merrick Garland is faced with a devil's choice due to the overwhelming evidence that Trump and his cronies planned and tried to execute a violent coup. If Trump is indicted and convicted,  there will be what some have said is already here: a civil war. If Garland does not charge Trump and his co-conspirators, this will be interpreted by them as a vindication that they did nothing wrong and an invitation to try again. The next time, they will have the knowledge of what not to do.

This could of all been avoided if the boot lickers in the Senate would of voted to impeach, he would be a foot note in US presidential history and neutered in terms of political say.

The corruption in the GOP is so transparent at this point I don’t know why the Dems are so worried about hurting their feelings. If the Republicans want a civil war they will choose one to stay in power whether Trump goes down or not. The decision to prosecute should be about protecting the institution of US democracy or correcting the many flaws in the US electoral, administrative, and judicial systems that the past election and administration exposed. Going on the honour system of “peaceful transfer or power” has turned into a joke, so future Presidents need the precedent of going to jail for insurrection to discourage them from following Trump’s lead. And if Democrats are worried about the Repubs exacting revenge when they are in power if the Dems go on the attack now, they need to realize the GOP will attack anyway. Marjorie Taylor Greene has filed articles of impeachment against Joe Biden in the House 9 separate times already since he has been President, it has just never been voted on.

Impeachment by itself means little- the real crunch comes when Congress and the Senate agree on a punishment, and that can be a verbal rebuke or as much as removal from office and a ban from ever running for office again.

Secret Service agents who were quick to say the events that happened with Trump did not happen would rather not talk under oath to the 1/6 committee.
