US Politics

Lets see if we can keep this thread a little more civil.

I found this interview very interesting.  A lot of soft balls thrown at Trump, he explained his back pedalling on his more extreme issues as a lot of his claims as opening bids for negotiation purposes.  Which .. whatever .. I still think that those are insincere claims he used to get elected.

He does now come across way more presidential then he did prior to the election.  A lot of his noise, yelling, and rhetoric has been scaled back.

Do respect this one though:

Quote

Lesley Stahl: Are you gonna take the salary, the president’s salary?

Donald Trump: Well, I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is no. I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. But it’s a -- I don’t even know what it is.

Donald Trump: Do you know what the salary is?

Lesley Stahl: $400,000 you’re giving up.

Donald Trump: No, I’m not gonna take the salary. I’m not taking it.

He’s unraveling.  Asked to show leadership.  Given a chance to console and comfort Americans. Trump loses it.  He’s toast.

Trump is way over his head, people said this would happen if a tragedy happen because of lack of empathy and depth of knowledge, his base wont admit it but down deep inside them they know this to be true

And there it is:

Trump's stupidity and hubris will never allow him to admit mistakes or resign. He will try to find a scapegoat and demonize anyone who points out that the emperor has no clothes, and his followers will go right along.

Yeah the Trump administration has really shown just how broken the system is. The rich are waging war on the plebs. They best be careful they don't go over the line cause the mob outnumbers them by a very significant amount.

Solid metaphor - maybe I’ll invite you to my ELA class sometime.

You may be underestimating the confidence the GOP and Trump have in the will of the police and military to enforce any edicts, legal or otherwise, that they see fit to mandate. A survey I saw a couple of years ago  stated that about 25% of the US military rank and file and somewhat higher in the officer corps and police were strongly right-wing/fundamentalist in their views. This would probably predispose them to unquestioningly follow orders ("trust and obey, there is no other way"). The Kent State incident proved that most people, especially military and paramilitary will obey illegal orders when stressed. A sociology course I took examined the rise of fascism in post-WW1 Germany and apparently only about 20-25% of the German population were solidly behind Hitler's policies but were aggressive and vocal and the rest of the people went along out of fear and apathy.

Madness indeed...

Maybe, just maybe, the tide of opinion among the semi-sane right-wingers in the US is starting to turn. The fundamentalists are showing signs of realizing that they are being used by an amoral would-be dictator and now David Frum. Frum, the son of former media person Barbara Frum, has been an unquestioning cheerleader of the Bushes but now is turning on Trump and his cronies.

When the polling begins to show trump wirh zero hope, everyone will turn on him looking to make him a scapegoat for a democratic victory.  And to get him and his kids to go away and make room for a more traditional candidate on the future.  Fox will turn. Trump will crate a new party and network which will compete with fox.  It will be fun to watch

I almost feel bad for him that he doesn't realize that he is just the useful idiot for the republican party. The crazy right wing voters aren't loyal to him, they're loyal to the Republicans in power, whoever that may be, and Trump is going to be the most epic scapegoat for them. If only the Democrats hadn't sent their double agent to do these things!

Beating Trump is one thing, but the GOP should also pay a heavy price....

Trump is a symptom. The right wing in the states has been priming the population for this type of president for a long time now. The next guy might not be a complete raging idiot, which would be far more terrifying.

Oh brother...
