US Politics

Lets see if we can keep this thread a little more civil.

I found this interview very interesting.  A lot of soft balls thrown at Trump, he explained his back pedalling on his more extreme issues as a lot of his claims as opening bids for negotiation purposes.  Which .. whatever .. I still think that those are insincere claims he used to get elected.

He does now come across way more presidential then he did prior to the election.  A lot of his noise, yelling, and rhetoric has been scaled back.

Do respect this one though:

Quote

Lesley Stahl: Are you gonna take the salary, the president’s salary?

Donald Trump: Well, I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is no. I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. But it’s a -- I don’t even know what it is.

Donald Trump: Do you know what the salary is?

Lesley Stahl: $400,000 you’re giving up.

Donald Trump: No, I’m not gonna take the salary. I’m not taking it.

Alexander is voting against witnesses.  That will lead to a quick acquittal.  No surprise there.  We’ll see how this cover up plays in the election.

One thing seems clear.  This goes beyond trump.  The GOP is rotten. How many knew...how many have been compromised?

Trying to have his cake and eat it too.  Tried that at epsteins place didn’t he?

If it’s a tie vote it will be real interesting what chief Roberts does.  I tend to think he’d decline to break a tie since it won’t matter anyway.

Trumps WH lawyer was in the room.   He’s a material witness.

Remember this date if the Democrats can take the Senate come election time, Bolton's info will drip out and Parnas seems to have the goods on a lot of people, that will also drip out. People need to worry that Trump will do absolutely anything and everything to stay President and it's becomes apparent that his enablers need to keep him there too.

Whatever morals the GOP claimed to have had have been completely abandoned. Trumps' attorneys have given thousands of dollars to the re-election campaigns of all the GOP senators who sat in judgement on Trump, and they have taken the position that the abuse of power never happened, that it was legal, and finally, that it didn't matter. According to constitutional scholars, this is a massive step towards a fascist dictatorship in the US.  Now that Trump has been given absolution and blanket immunity for any future actions, he will run wild, and so will his followers.

Can't wait till Trump tries to have people that oppose him arrested, you know his little pea sized brain has thought about this

There is a very scary precedent here. In the late 50's, two rednecks in Alabama shot and killed two black men for no particular reason. The evidence was absolute and uncontested, and the two miscreants even admitted to the killings in an interview with a magazine, but the jury acquitted them, with no directed verdict or appeal filed. When interviewed, the jury members said there was no doubt that the two accused did the killing but acquitted them because they believed there was nothing wrong with whites killing Negroes. That sort of thinking is rife in much of the US and in the GOP.

As with the Kavanaugh hearing Democrats went full Thelma and Louise. Should have gone with a new team for the trial phase.  All they did was alienate centrist republicans with talk of "treason" who were already turned off from the hysterical, over the top  rhetoric. Tsk. Had a real shot at prolonging this.

Clear pattern of ridiculously bad decisions. As in life revenge and anger can be so self defeating.

None of this is true.

The fact two voted for witnesses is shocking enough.  But If there is a clean member among the GOP it’s likely Mitt. He was beat up badly by trump too.  Not shocking unfortunately is GOP taking their chances on no witnesses.   I mean, they don’t have much of a choice lest a bunch of them end up implicated.

Hopefully the electorate remembers this.  But you can never count out the Dems to self destruct.

let's be honest, if they didn't know for certain that they were going to shoot this down they would never have allowed anyone to vote outside the party line.

It's just tremendously sad that the checks and balances shirked their responsibility and effectively made the US into a dictatorship. For an unhinged moron no less. God willing the voters in the US wake up and vote the assholes out of power and the Democrats grow a set and go on the war path rooting out the systemic corruption and jailing all these traitors.

Never heard of the guy to be honest. Just thought it was interesting

In news that should surprise no one, at a Bernie rally a staffer led the crowd in anti-Hillary chants.

Bernie really is a first rate a$$hole. Only left wing delusions would embrace a guy who is 1000 years old and had a heart attack during the campaign as its nominee.   The shame is that it’s over shadowed Warren, a legitimate progressive option who could whoop Trump.  Bernie should have dropped out after his heart attack.

Now it will be Biden who should beat trump handily but he’s got the stink of Burisma and will face attacks from all sides.   He’s also not going to choose Warren as his running mate due to age so the progressives are going to be hot.

The trump trial went exactly as expected.  Now Dems have to use it to their advantage and punish the alt right not each other.

It is interesting, but when you unpack it... it's like most of his ****- partisan crap of a strawman argument.

So no checking the credibility? Just regurgitate anything that agrees with your world view? Regressive problems in a nutshell. Anti intellectualism.

So tell me, what stopped them from having Bolton as a witness at any point? Or any other witness.  Please enlighten us as to the current regressive argument of the day....

Here I will save you time, the only thing stopping witnesses were republicans putting party over country. There is no reason to block witnesses whatsoever unless you know the guy is guilty as sin and want to acquit anyway.
