US Politics

Lets see if we can keep this thread a little more civil.

I found this interview very interesting.  A lot of soft balls thrown at Trump, he explained his back pedalling on his more extreme issues as a lot of his claims as opening bids for negotiation purposes.  Which .. whatever .. I still think that those are insincere claims he used to get elected.

He does now come across way more presidential then he did prior to the election.  A lot of his noise, yelling, and rhetoric has been scaled back.

Do respect this one though:

Quote

Lesley Stahl: Are you gonna take the salary, the president’s salary?

Donald Trump: Well, I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is no. I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. But it’s a -- I don’t even know what it is.

Donald Trump: Do you know what the salary is?

Lesley Stahl: $400,000 you’re giving up.

Donald Trump: No, I’m not gonna take the salary. I’m not taking it.

The idea that Ukraine eventually got the money therefore I did nothing wrong is stupid, hey I robbed a bank on Friday they didn't find out till this morning I got caught, I gave back the money, the bank has the money now so i did nothing wrong.

hey hey now everyone knows that Bolton is a war pig, one of the shitgoblins who masterminded the Bush Iraq War II and Zontar has been real consistent about not being a big fan of the war pig branch of the GOP.

And when lefties say "hey let's hear what Bolton has to say under oath" that doesn't mean they're all big stans for him now. I would love to see Bolton's reputation completely ******* destroyed as part of this process, he's a dangerous man.

The thing about Trump that's underplayed is how he campaigned against the Iraq War and in foreign wars in general and in this I was actually really strongly aligned with Trump ... and with Zontar, I think.  There was a locked and loaded plan to disproportionally retaliate on Iran for the refinery attack, and Trump backed away from it at the last moment and I think that was actually a good moment for the country.  The bar to generally dispatch the US military with live rounds and fire orders needs to be super high.

Now that dude is playing drone footsie with Iran, who knows though.

But it is all heresay Not one witness has proof of a direct order. They are all parotting what the other said. Cant build a case on assumption and supposition .

THIS ISN'T A CRIMINAL TRIAL.

The Senate "trial" is better understood as a firing process.  One doesn't have to commit a crime to be impeached -- there's lots of impeachable conduct that is not against the law.

For example, if the President sold New Orleans back to the French or announced they were  moving the White House to Riyahd ... there is no law on the books against those things ... but Congress would probably step up to weigh in on the President's continued employment.

And even if your premise were true and the trial were a criminal one, with the defendant protected by all the conventions and regulations of criminal law -- how do you think that mob bosses get prosecuted?  Mob bosses never cut direct orders when criming.  And yet there are mob bosses in jail.  RICO prosecutions are a thing, and are constitutional per a bunch of Supreme Court rulings.

Trump's people had a clear understanding of their working orders even without a smoking gun order.  That's how a criminal syndicate works.

Bolton stated before the House hearings that he wanted to testify.  The White House indicated that they would initiate a lengthy court battle to prevent this.  Wouldn't the Republicans be eager to discredit this stuff?

But do they really want to know about what he (and other senior members of the administration) saw and heard?   That is the issue here.   Based on statement and (in) action....they seem pretty terrified at the prospect.

Bolton is just echoing whats already been discredited. No need to be eager for testimony. Quit the contrary it would be just giving air time and sound bites for the media from a Trump hater.

If he gets sworn in then either or both of the Bidens do too. Dems are royally spooked by that notion.

Who is royally spooked by the notion of witnesses?  What have we been watching for months?   So Trump's NSA at the time..... would just be giving "air time and sound bites for the media"

You sound eerily, like a White House Spokesperson......

I hve a feeling trump isn’t very smart. Maybe he should check with lawyer before tweeting.  Oh never mind

Basic politics.  You don't go out of your way to give opponent the microphone and camera.

You really think that the mic and camera is the only thing they are worried about?  Bolton doesn't exactly fit the wide eyed, crazed leftist narrative does he?   Uber right crazy, perhaps....

Funny, he was good enough to be hired by a stable genius, who only hires the right people.....

As far as "the swamp".....one should take a closer look at past and present Trump Cabinet appointees.

A lot of Trump hires have been baffling. Bolton is at the top of the list.

I don't think Pam Bondi is doing the GOP any favours...

The reason AOC is getting such fierce pushback as a wacko kook lefty uppity marxist-leninist is because these are some damn big money targets. There is just so much money metastasized into all of the current bad American solutions to these problems -- the ownership class is profiting on the flipside of every one of these bullet points and they can see looming threats on the horizon.

Biden is the new Hillary.

What in the actual **** is Alan dershewitz arguing here? Obstruction of "Congress" is not a crime? damn...

And the fact he is arguing that Abuse of Power and Obstruction of justice is not an impeachable offense is crazy. Looks like someone is trying really hard to convince the AG to stop any serious investigation into the Epstein murder... lol

Dershewitz wants Barr's job.

What the **** do the Bidens have to do with Trump obstructing congress or his abuse of power?

Just a matter of time before they all start turning on each other, everyday more and more info comes out and it's never positive for Trump, but now his cronies are getting dragged into this

Legal rational is POTUS has a right to investigate corruption by an american politician in a foreign country. Biden somehow got his unemployed unskilled son on a ukranian energy company BOD. Trump defense wants it explained.

A legal rebuttal to the "abuse of power" prosecution theory.
