Anyone saying Hellebuyck can't be blamed for letting in five goals is just being willfully ignorant.  He absolutely got hung out to dry a few times but he simply had to be better if he wants to make the team.  I don't get why some people want to give young guys a pass for every mistake.  The team is in the business of winning games, not coddling kids.  If a player isn't yet good enough to play in the NHL night after night, then he should be in the AHL.

Word is Helle has not looked good in practice either.  I think he needed a really good training camp to make the Jets reconsider their plan.  The plan is Pavs/Hutch with the Jets and Helle with the Moose.

Helle looks like he's not quite ready for primetime, even though he was left hanging out to dry a few times last night. Be better if they send him down to the Moose and if one of Pavs or Hitch stumbles, bring him up and let him prove his worth. I think some people were anointing him the current starter a bit too quickly.

I think the plan all along was to start the season with the Pav and Hutch show, more youngsters added to the team with a big learning curve, is this team ready to take the next step? probably not this year.

One game doesn't determine whether he is sent down or not........

I think management knew before that game who is going down as far as goalies...

Interesting to note that Lawless speculates that  Pavs not starting might  mean Pavelec might be traded/waived.....but Wiebe saying he really doesn't think so, that it doesn't really mean anything. Soooooo....

Strange that the supposed #1 goalie gets only 1 preseason game, up to yesterday this was to be his game, maybe he got injured or is sick or maybe there is something going on behind the scene's.

Lowry, Thorburn, Armia and Connor need big games but I think Armia and Connor stick.

Chiarot needs a big game I think too.

This could be the forwards opening lineup with the exception of Matthias and Stafford whose availability is unknown.

Hutch is not a starting goalie in the NHL, just barely a capable backup might be another trying year we will find out starting on Thursday.

Lol. Hutch has better career nhl numbers than pav does. It's crazy how much some people read in to pre season games. Hutch was fine. 

It's going to be Hutch and Helle this year. Pav will be traded or waived.  It's happening.  You know what you take from these games? Nothing really. Dano and Morrissey stood out tho. Solid games from both. 

Tanev LowryCopp Dano 4th line looks good to me. 

I think Burmistrov Thorburn and Chiarot really struggled tonight tho and have all preseason.  

To get back to the goalies tho... Maurice has said From day 1... 1 game doesn't matter... Pav getting a shutout against the echl version of Calgary doesn't matter. Helle letting in 5 vs nhl team pretty much Edmonton doesn't matter. Same thing with Hutch tonight.  

He's said they will look at their overall body of work... and if you actually do that.... Hutch has better career numbers than pav and so does helle. Pav has no future here. None zilch zero Nadda.  He done. 

Hutch Helle will be the goalies to start the year.  

This Is a young team with a bright future. Why not let the younger goalies grow with the team. Helle has nothing more to prove in the AHL.

Forgot to mention Perreault was a lil firestarter out there tonight and i mean that in a good way.

Perreault Scheif Wheeler Laine little ehlers Buff Toby Myers even Connor. .. they have made the team and know it so what I saw tonight we're guys who really didn't care about the result of a game that means nothing. Buff taking a penalty and then laughing about it is a huge reminder that pre season means pretty much **** all.

preseason games ...

Hutch is guaranteed to start with the jets. Won't risk waiving him. He was signed as expansion insurance. 

Lots of time between now and Tuesday when they have to set their roster, will the Jets have a few surprises on who they send down, are Mathias and/or Stafford ready to play, who really is the starting goalie, will they let Trouba twist in the wind, will buff play 26-28 minutes and night and how long will he last doing this, how many games do Stuart and Thorburn sit in the PB.

What H & L suggested was that if Comrie showed well that one idea would be to send Pavs down to the Moose because he's low risk for anyone claiming him and even if they did then that would be 5 million off the books that they can use elsewhere and that it would be easy to sign a veteran journeyman for injury insurance. 

Maurice said it's time to find the courage to make the tough decisions. To me that means the courage to tell a few vets that they are moving on. 

 Hutchinson played pretty good in the first and second. It's too bad that the hockey game has three periods to it.
