  1. Then the question might be: Why is it other teams come up with guys that can light it up from the word go? We got cleaned by a third stringer last night. So they're still around. Just need people who can spot talent. Also, why is the team wasting all that time trying to develop a 30/31 year old recycled NFL reject. Hey, that's normal here. I called it yesterday in the game thread (before the game started). Every year since I can remember it doesn't matter who plays QB for the Eskimos, that player always looks like Warren Moon. It doesn't matter how good the Bombers are coming in, how bad they are, and same with the Esks. Even in that 51 to 48 game - the coming out party for Khari Jones - he was severely upstaged by third string QB Dan Crowley who passed for almost 500 yards and 5 TD's. I wouldn't fire MOS because of what happened yesterday, Edmonton and Commonwealth, for whatever reason, is Wpg's Bermuda Triangle. As John MacKinnon, sports editor for the Edm Journal, opined in yesterday's pre-game article and the headline says it all "Bombers are the Eskimo's Pinata". That says it all. They just don't beat us, they dominate us - they kick the crap out of us. Not once in awhile, but every fricken game they play here. So happy I left at half time - I missed nothing - NOTHING. My buddy called later we had a good laugh about it. He just shakes his head. What the BUMBLERS do in this stadium is outright embarrasing. Year, after year, after year, after year.
  2. You can say that again. My son and I left at halftime. I figured one of two things would happen - rain would continue and I'd be very un-entertained (that first half off football was terrible) or the rain would stop and we'd see what we saw. Positive from the bombers - I agree on Westerman - first game I really noticed him, and Marshall look like a keeper. But that was about it. Our coverage sucks on D and our offensive schemes aren't that good. How could the Eskies have plays ran with so many wide open uncovered players and yet our schemes couldn't do that?
  3. Some of those were former Bombers. Meh, it doesn't matter. What matters is what the Bombers do. I think we'd all like to see our team doing the same thing. We're not there yet (but we are getting better, last night's and the Hamilton debacle not withstanding). I just hope Drew doesn't miss too much time, as already mentioned here Brian Brohm is terrible and Marve is in the dog house now for whatever reason. Bombers are not a playoff team (again) this year, sadly
  4. Nick Moore LMAO - nice answer. But sorry boys - Edm's strength is their Defence, and they have no weakness. They have ferocious pass rushers, outstanding LB's (led by McCoil and Sherrit) and a very solid secondary. I guess if there is one weakness it's Muamba at Safety. But, last year - Drew Willy was absolutely terrible here and thankfully got hurt on a safety sack (just for the rest of that game) or it would have been really ugly. Last year the Esks outscored the bombers 67 to 12. That's pathetic. Are the bombers better this year? Yes Are the Esks better? Don't know - luckily for us the Esks have Nichols as a starter - but our defense can make Nichols look like Warren Moon easy (they usually do make 2nd and 3rd string QB's in Edmonton look like all stars - especially games in Commonwealth). I'll be at the game, will most likely leave early in the fourth quarter when the score is 45 to 3 to Edmonton - and I'll get more Kal Tire $100 coupons - so there's always that. Bombers always play like **** here and I see no hope for a pattern change. BTW - headline in the Journal today - "Bombers have been Eskimos' Pinata" - how apt. You need to stop smoking that stuff. Same old same old. One day we might play well in Edmonton again..... I guess we'll go for round four next year eh fella's? I'll say we'll get blown out again, and you would have forgotten all about our pathetic showings here over the past 10 years and give me more grief. I hope, for once, next year I'm wrong. I'm really sick of watching the bumblers stutter and stumble in this stadium
  5. No but he does go in when Hinds is hurt or needs a rest. One can only hope that Hinds goes down early
  6. I say Collaros but of course that's the guy I wanted here. I'm still not sold 100% on Willy. Looking forward to seeing him play live today. Last time I saw him live he played like absolute garbage and then took a sack in the end zone at the end of the 2nd quarter and did not return after that (thankfully). So far this year Willy is playing like he started last year - so to see him operate 'healthy' I can pass better judgement. Of course, didn't see much of Collaros last year either - Mr. Willis knocked him out of the game really early here (and he stayed out for 6 weeks). But Collaros to me seems to have that 'it' factor, that will to win. Willy has 'happy feet'.
  7. Cool - that's fine. We all have our opinions don't forget. I just find it funny how people here forget how bad the Bombers (generally) play here. I personally have no idea why. Though the best game I ever saw at Commonwealth was the introduction to Khari Jones - who came in in the second quarter for an injured Kerwin Bell and played great. Though Dan Crowley - a THIRD STRINGER - for Edmonton had close to 500 yards passing and 5 TD passes in that game as Edmonton won 51 to 49 or something like that. I was very entertained but even then - third stringer = Warren Moon in this stadium for whatever reason. I have a feeling Nichols, who has been under a lot of heat here - is going to have a coming out party today.
  8. Nothing - tell me Noeller - when was the last good game here? Funny, Every year I post my 'drivel' here about how bad the Bombers play here and get 'smoked', and every year you and others give it right back to me like you're all in a severe memory lapse and have no idea what happens in this stadium. And every year, the bombers stink, they get blown out, and no one says "gee, you were right" or even if they do, next year, same thing. Look up the Edmonton Journal if you think I'm 'making things up'. Eskimos destroy us in Commonwealth every year. Last year, our D played great - turned the ball over twice deep in Eskie territory. First time - two and field goal (Willy did nothing) - second time - Willy completed a pass - to Dexter McCoil who ran it back for a TD and the rout was on. Not saying I 'hope I'm right' just telling you what I'm expecting. Another Wpg Blue Bomber colossal meltdown - just like they do every year here.
  9. 10. Isn't that always the case? Yes, Brohm is a much bigger, stronger, man than Marve and is more suited for a 1 yard sneak. Marve is a good option when it's 3rd and 2 or 3rd and 3, over 3 and it's Willy. Don't tell MOS that though
  11. This to me was the biggest fault of the game. I actually forgave him on the fumble as he was trying to make a play. That last return though - IMO earns him a ticket of town. His job on that play is to field the ball cleanly and move it up field and get out of bounds. I'm 100% sure those were the specific instructions given to him by our coaches as well. He totally ignored them, taking 10 seconds off the clock and losing 10 yards on the return. Not sure where his head was at in the game but I hope I see Veltung next week here in Edmonton
  12. Yep - agreed. That tell me in Spades how BAD the Stampeders were. That game was there for the taking and if any of those things listed didn't happen we win that game. That's how bad the bombers can be in Alberta. Even when a team is on a short week, with four of their starting olinemen missing and one playing with one arm, we still lose. If Calgary was healthy and had a full week to prepare................. Well, Edmonton does. Taking my son to the game - should be an easy win for the 'smos
  13. Nah, I'd rather have an oline that could block. Picard hasn't been very good, he's either getting beat, holding, or doing stuff to get fined. I think there's a good reason Sask dumped him.
  14. LMAO - well when you put it like that kbf......... like I said I haven't seen him much so far. I have only watched on TV so far and I only see players who make plays
  15. To be fair Adams has been open. Just not getting the ball. I don't understand why. In fact on one play last week he was wide open down the middle of the field. We got a first down anyway, so it did't hurt us too bad, but he was scoring if he got the ball there. I think Willy said after the game too, that he needs to get Adams more involved. That's easy to answer (though you may not like it). Drew Willy (specifically) and CFL QB's in general. That's the way the game is played today. They have their 'favourites' and they also have their 'plays' they are comfortable with. I said it many times last year when I was screaming for Willy to be benched - he has tunnel vision and doesn't see the field well. But there a ton of CFL QBs you can paint with that brush. I remember Brock and Clements both being masters of 'spreading' the ball around. Brock had his fav's too for sure but usually for the deep ball. Anything short to middle he was able to find the open guy. Clements was brilliant at it. Willy is the new generation. They're told the play and are afraid to improvise. You watch him against the Stamps, watch how he um, ahem, 'surveys' the field. He's usually zoned in to one guy (maybe two) that's it. And with his happy feet he's too uncomfortable to scan anything more than that. Oh well....................
  16. I think the convert percentage will start going up. Right now it's in the kickers head. They'll get used to it. The '2s' will be more frequent in bad weather and windy conditions. IMO a professional football kicker has a much better chance of kicking the singles and once they figure it out they'll be fine.
  17. Interesting, I was wondering why they wouldn't have done this years ago. Especially in hockey. The entire puck has to cross the line so you put a metal filiment around the edge of the puck. Embed it as part of the rubber. A laser wouldn't work in football though it's not as cut and dry as that. As mentioned, we'd have the same issue as a hand, foot, or helmet could set it off as well. Also, most TD's are reviewed via a 'catch' (as in did the receiver catch the ball , trap it, maintain possession, etc) which are all judgment calls on the field and can be (usually) easily proven on replay, the 'laser' would have nothing to do with it. I think the right call was made. I don't think based on the angle the ball crossed the line. IMO better than a laser, have a camera embedded on a string high above the goal posts that follows the ball, plus one embedded on each pylon, and two on the goal posts themselves. That should give us plenty of angles to view.
  18. Hey guys, I thought this was a 'defence' thread not a "Hurl" thread lol. I most likely haven't seen this guy as much as a lot of you have, but I'm also not a professional evaluator of talent. Looks to me like the Bombers are committed to Hurl for this year, and though Hurl has struggled so far this year (trying to be polite ) it doesn't mean he won't 'get it' eventually, along with the rest of our D. I fully expect us to be trounced by Calgary, and most likely Edmonton as well (for some reason the Bombers never play well here 'cept for that miracle play and that only happened because I got pissed off when Glenn fumbled and I left the Stadium - if I had stayed that play never would have happened lol. But - I expect them to learn a lot more in their Alberta trip. This is the CFL, and every year, for most teams, the game is a process. It's bad enough when all the coaches and players come back, but when you have new 'key' personal plus a new coach - well Training Camp is a joke for prep, pre-season doesn't really exist. We're in pre-season mode now. We won't see the real Bombers until Labour Day (or a week or two before hand), like we do every year with most teams (saving those that have consistent personal and coaching from the year before and have remained relatively healthy) so I say patience. I'd much rather start the year 3 - 3 or even 2 - 4 so long as we get better as the season goes one. Last year was terrble, going 5 - 1 then finishing 2 - 10. That was a regression.
  19. Looks like what the CFL has done has worked. You guys realize the new rules have absolutely nothing to do with the increase in penatlies, right? Every week on the Jason Gregor show here in Edmonton he has Bud Steen on the show. He explains it all very well, and I've learned a lot listening to his show. In a nutshell - "If you ain't cheating you ain't trying". There's probably an infraction on 95% of the plays run in this league. The CFL has changed their positioning of the officials on the field. There are now officials running up and down the sidelines and the umpire has moved. The purpose was to give them more field vision and the ability to spot more infractions that were being missed in the past. The players will and are adapting. They are learning where they can 'get away with stuff' and where they can't on the field. And if you yell at the officials you should get an unsportsmanlike penalty. I don't mind when a player or coach calls an official over and asks them to explain a call - but to yell at them, berate them, and insult them is unacceptable (we can do that though we're fans lol). Players are human, they make mistakes. They blow coverages, they miss their blocks, they drop passes, they fumble the ball when no one is around them, they force passes they shouldn't, they run wrong routes. I don't see officials running up and berating them when they make a mistake. And CFL players make 10x the mistakes officials do. When an official makes a mistake, they know it (maybe not right away) and if you point it out respectively to them, then maybe they give a bit leeway on the next infraction. But if it's a penalty, it's a penalty, and it's not the officials job to determine whether or not it's near the play or not, it's their job to call infractions. It's the players job to play in the rules.
  20. I really hate trying to pass this game off as luck. Yeah it wasn't pretty but they worked hard for that win and I don't think it was luck at all. The Adam int was a good defensive play. He read the pass and made a break on it. The Randle INT was just a bad decision by Cato, but bad decisions happen in football all the time. The punt block was a hard work play by the special teams. They brought some heat and it paid off. The D still has issues but they gutted it out and did make some stops when they had to. I would call this a character win more than a lucky win. Yes I would have to agree with this. The Bombers won because they made plays... not because the Als were shooting themselves in the foot or anything. I would add that the Randle INT was a bad decision by Cato but he had a ton of pressure in his face from the Bombers D so that's a credit to them as well. I agree guys to a point but you missed it - unless you think (well Nichols could I guess) our d and special teams will be good for scoring two to three TD's a game....... yes we won and it was a great 'team' effort. I'm just saying Willy has to contribute too. He doesn't have to throw 4 TD's a game but he should get us a couple every game if we want to win consistently. I still stand by what I said, if our offense can't put the ball in the end zone, we'll get killed in Alberta.
  21. good job DoD but you missed on Liam - he was four for four on field goals (not 3 for 3). Also very disconcerning that Willy couldn't put together one TD drive. Hey, we won and it was a hard fought game but if not for a couple of rookie mistakes by Cato this game would have been a Montreal victory. Willy needs to be better and get rid of his 'happy feet'. Dunnigan pointed it out on one play, deep in Mtrl territory. Willy had a great pocket he could step up in, but he focused on one receiver (like he was doing last year), he was covered, he panicked when there was no reason to panic and he ran from the pocket, was pressured, and threw the ball away (at least he did that much). I think overall we were lucky to win. A win is a win and I'll take it - but we'll be killed in Alberta playing like that.
  22. I don't know if Waggoner is ready yet - he should stay as a backup and brought along slowly. He'll have his chances when (not if) injuries happen but lets not rush him. Hurl makes me hurl - he reminds me of what Henoc's brother Cauchy would look like if he played MLB instead of Safety. I watched him on some replays and he seems to be running to areas where the ball isn't when he isn't be blocked out of the play. You gotta think there are better MLB's than that around.
  23. Well I guess we'll see how he does tonight. Edmonton redeemed themselves with a blowout win last night. Can the bombers do the same? If they can't beat Montreal, being led by a raw rookie QB (whom we now have game film on) then, like here, it's going to be a summer of 'hockey' in Wpg and what the Jets do get better to be more successful in the playoffs. Offseason? What Offseason? Hey, in all seriousness, this game is HUGE for Wpg even though it's only the third game of the year. MOS is seeing 'progress' in practice but if we get blown out again then IMO things are going to get really ugly here really fast.
  24. If you've been knocked out .. you've suffered a concussion. That's not true. A concussion is a very specific injury and there's a lot of misinformation out there. You also don't have to be knocked out to suffer one. I've been in sessions done by the Dr. who works with the NHL on concussion research. He also said you heal almost instantly, the actual injury that is. You may suffer some lasting effects however. Everyone is different. He said the most dangerous aspect is taking a second hit shortly after. As in the same day. You can recover quite quickly from one. If you have been knocked out .. you have suffered a concussion. Full stop. Here's the actual medical definition for you: "The formal medical definition of concussion is a clinical syndrome characterized by immediate and transient alteration in brain function, including alteration of mental status and level of consciousness, resulting from mechanical force or trauma." Simply put, a concussion IS a traumatic brain injury. It's not more specific than that. There are a host of accompanying symptoms and those resulting symptoms can manifest themselves differently in each individual but I'd suggest that being knocked out is an "alteration of mental status and level of consciousness". ;-) I would agree with you if the knockout came as a result of his brain being rattled causing him to go unconscious. However, as a martial artist, I can tell you that there are several areas on the human body that can be struck causing a loss of consciousness that does not result in a concussion, just simply stops the blood flow to the brain temporarily. They are called pressure points and can cause a loss of consciousness and even temporary paralysis. From what I saw of the hit it sure looked like a pressure point loss of blood flow could have occurred. Two spots that render a person unconscious without causing a concussion are the side of the neck (carotid artery) and the point of the chin which also disrupts blood flow from the carotid to the brain and can cause unconsciousness (along with several other pressure points along the human body) that are not concussion related. Have you ever seen a boxer knocked out by a body punch? Happens all the time. Think he suffered a concussion? If so, I am not sure you understand the medical terminology you are reading. Being rendered unconscious is just a common symptom of a concussion, it does not create the concussion. Your brain being slammed into your skull is what causes a concussion. In my martial arts training, I have seen several people knocked unconscious by very slight pinpoint blows to the side of the neck. Sometime just a jab of a thumb from an inch away. They were not concussed. Knocked out....yeah...concussed...nope. Just a temporary disruption of blood flow and it's sleepy time. Interesting - and don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't agree with you or the fact I don't believe the bombers or Willy that he doesn't have one, but that hit looked a lot more like a brain slamming into the skull than a pressure point being struck.. just saying
  25. Agreed here Bigblue - this is the CFL. In one week, your team can look absolutely pathetic, next week could look like this years Grey Cup champs. A new defense takes awhile to learn. What this team needs more than anything in consistency. If we fired coaches after a bad game, we'd have no coaches. As for Willy - good to see he has no lingering affects. SPuDS - thanks for the update on the concussions. I agree with you that if he did have one he wouldn't be playing. Also, sorry to hear about your circumstance. Knock on wood I've never had one and hope to never have one as it's certainly no picnic. Not very much you can do when you are suffering from one.
