Pass pro was really hit or miss. Randolph got whupped with speed a few times. He's still an upgrade in pass pro over lofton, and a side grade in run pro. Dobson was good, but he certainly hasn't lived up to the Desjarlais level of potential he possesses. I think Wallace is more reliable now than Dobson was last year. And with the out side shot at ending up a RT.

When Bryant came out was that Vanderpoo or Randolph in his spot?

If we play like we can we will be fine. If we play like country club princesses like last night it will be a long season. If we don't see more out of our team than what we got last night then clean house and start the rebuild.

Maybe, I'd prefer to find out mid-season where they're lacking while there's still time to adjust, rather than late season and be shocked how poorly they play against competitive teams.   It's easy to beat up on the weak teams, but if they can't beat the top teams during the regular season it's unlikely they'll beat them in the playoffs.

When was the last time Zach mounted a comeback from 2 TD's down?

  3. 7 out of 8 games coming up will be challenging, Stamps (2) Argos (2) and Als (1) leading into back to back with the Riders and the LDC, good chance all starting QB's will be back for those games.  How they perform in that stretch will define their season and whether they still have the ability to compete with the top teams, or if they've officially been dethroned as King of the Hill.

I definitely think the Stamps are better than the Riders... For the simple fact that VA is a better QB than Trevor Harris at this point. Now, having said that, Beggleton is a huge loss for them on offense.

At any rate, it's the Bombers and then everyone else way down the list.

Have you seen any promotion of the Stampede Bowl?

Most of the league is either in trouble or right in the verge of being in trouble. Ham and bc are ok because their owners can eat it / buy fans and won’t sweat losses. We are rock solid of course.
The rest, at best treading water.

Even at that, if bc/ham had a sudden ownership turnover they’d be in serious trouble quickly.
For us, we obviously have deep coffers now. And a strong fan base. But we did at the turn of the 90s to. If we had an extended competitive collapse, the eventual fan base exodus would be a massive problem for the league. The riders are half way down the toilet already. If the top draws in the league barely got 20k the tsn deal would plummet and total gate average would be serious trouble.

The league is at a crossroads. New tsn deal soon, bunch of teams on the fringe, already failed to capitalize on a younger generation the new commish has his work cut out for him, and the board.

Depends what the viewer numbers are, if they can increase the viewers of broadcast and streaming services, they could potentially make more revenue through other venues.  Somehow league revenues have gone up, when game attendance appears to have fallen off a cliff.

Agree with a lot of your assessment of the BC roster.

To be fair Rigmaiden was only mad GM in Nov 2024 so a lot of the brutal contracts are millstones he inherited.  Obviously I’m not a Lions fan but just for the health and competitiveness of that franchise, I think we see Rigmaiden make his mark over the next offseason and beyond.

Rigmaiden has been with BC since the start of 2021 in various roles, he's as responsible for player personnel as much as anyone in the Lions organization.  Adding the GM role provides him the ability to choose his coaching staff.

Masoli is done....He literally threw the game away with one interception after the other,,,,You'd think he would have wised up to the fact, that if you throw to the sidelines, and it takes forever to get there, that someone is going to pic it...Looks like he can't run anymore as well, most likely due to the previous leg injuries he has suffered....That all adds up to one thing...or two things really, an apple and a pink slip....See ya and it's been a slice....NOT...Rourke better get well soon

Maier's not much better, thought maybe there was some hope of him becoming a starter, but clearly not.  Throws a decent ball when planted but goes into all out panic in scramble mode and loses track of his receivers.

I wonder if he is over his head even if he does that? I know he'll get enough rope to hang himself so to speak, but the Lions I'm sure were ecpecting much more from this team. I'm thinking there will definitely be a Buck watch all season.

I gotta also say that even if Rourke had been playing the last few games this team could stil be 0-3 in them. Not good times in Vancouver Pro Sports. Can't see the Canucks much better either 🤮

With Rigmaiden as GM I wouldn't expect the Lions to make a rash decision on Buck, pretty rare for a HC to exceed expectations in his first year.  There wasn't much of a case for firing Campbell IMO, he had them performing at a high level, with only the Bombers being consistently better in the West the last few seasons.

"The Professor". Or was it "the Factor".  Or was that bellfool?  I can't keep up with all the failures we had as OC's in those horrible stinker years.  Still think no one could ever be a bigger flame out in the CFL than this guy:

I think we do need more coaches from out side the cfl ecosystem.
I’d particularly look at cos and position coaches to fill the same roles up here. I would also give more chances to cis guys and try to strengthen the coaching pipeline up here. Instead of mostly relying on ex players to join current cfl coaches and maintain the status quo.

in general, we need larger coaching staffs though. More scouting in league and down south, more position coaches, more quality control, film, and analytics/stats roles.

I like how the CFL coaching staff has been evolving, players become assistants, than coordinators before moving on to HC roles and most are fairly young, done with the stodgy old NFL retreads of decades past.

.....Well the game showed Zack is back.....hope he can keep it going

....Also showed that Demski's physical problem, that made him a game time decision, kind of evaporated...Played a great game and was having fun out there

.....Liked our defensive effort mostly....blew coverage on a Elk receiver that cost us a td but otherwise a good showing....Kept Ford from revving his engine and taking off most of the game ...I believe Zack out rushed him and that's saying something ...heh heh.....AND that bull$hit call on Holm for interference was unbelievable....That was a pic that should have stood....Hope Wheatfall is good to go next game ...he took a pretty good rap and sort of disappeared after that....Can't lose his clutch play....All in all beat a a club on 4 days rest ...has to make the team feel good...

    ....

If Wheatfall came back, he didn't make a catch after his crash, but also didn't notice Corcoran on offence at all other than in a short yardage blocking role.

Its too early to say what Smith can or cannot be, currently he seems suited to sam or wil, but thru coaching could be db similar to Griffin.

Haggarty Makonzo,Kelly are all light to be will.

O'Shea said they consider Smith more suited to DB than LB but that was early in TC.

Do we know what his deal looks like for next year?  I know he's getting big money this year with a large guarantee but I don't think I've seen details for 2026.  If there's no guaranteed money next year, we're not necessarily tied to him.  It's not exactly the MOS way but if ZC doesn't perform up to his pay level, they could walk away from him in the off-season.

Interesting that it was Zach that initiated the extension talks, I think he spent the winter ignoring his phone and thinking about his future and realized the only thing he knows is football, and he isn't well suited for media.  He's mentioned a few times in the last month that he wants to get into coaching, he has a lot of league connections so that doesn't necessarily mean Wpg, as he still lives in Ont.
