Great play by Bridge!!!

Didn't start watching the game until now. The Rider 0-line looks positively lethal- for the Rider QB's. How did the Toronto D-line not eat them alive last week? Harris looks serviceable, the Rider Qb's will be reduced to pulp by game's end.

If speed was all there was to it, that would be fine. To my understanding, playing cornerback has a lot to do with reading the receiver and QB and then positioning self. That implies experience and intelligence, neither of which Carter has shown. It is also interesting that Chris Jones (in his august wisdom) sees him as the easiest receiver to replace.

Are we back to belittling Willy again?

Streveler will serve up a few oopsies as part of his learning, but he still needs all the help he can get from his O-line.

Hall described the defence as about average- not unacceptable. This sure as spit sounded like the norm, and it definitely looked like the same old. Coaches do not have to name names unless all else fails, but not being honest when your charges serve up yet another sub-par performance and cost the team the win is bush.

That's a hazard in Saskatchewan, where beef and swine are mostly corn-fed.

I'm not sure if this was part of the same interview, but on 1290 this afternoon, Hall was asked his opinion of the play of the defence against the Esks. He said that " the defence played about average"-no argument there, but did not see much of a problem in giving up almost 500 yards of offence, and that a couple of plays made them look worse than they were. It stunned me to hear that this was an acceptable standard and it sounded like every other post-game interview since he got here. Not to worry, O'Shea has his back.

And while Ross is recuperating, he is missing a lot of valuable reps. This could give Bennett and maybe even Gale a chance to blow past Ross in the QB rankings.

Well, that would explain a lot, but Trestman ought to have been able to anticipate that.

I'm happy to see Augustine still hanging around and getting coached up, but Lankford, meh. If our scouts cannot do better than Lankford, they ought to voluntarily take a pay cut.

Maybe God is trying to tell Ross to go do something other than football- croquet, for example.

The wins are not going to get gifted to us. So long as Hall is directing the defence, we can expect the same outcomes. Even Weicek in the Freep is onto Hall now. Its like shooting fish in a barrel to criticize H, but that's all we have, and so long as O'Shea sees that the defence is "playing fine", nothing is going to change.

I think that Streveler has to be careful in picking his times to sprint. Nichols has been pretty durable, but he hurt himself on a pretty innocuous play, and if Streveler goes down, we're really boned.

I sure hope not. If the Bombers acquired Masoli, it would mean that Nichols is a lot more racked up than reported. Besides, would we have the cap space?

With a lame duck QB, how can you tell?

Being as how they are playing in Montreal, shouldn't they change their names to "Eastermen"? Or would that have objectionable religious overtones?

What the heck happened to Ross? A bruised ego?

I think that the only drama might be the betting on when Collaros and/or Bridge will be pulled. Or which will be carted off the field.

To be fair, several so-so quarterbacks have had their way with Hall's defence.

While it is just one game and the first of the season at that, there is reason for optimism. We lost to Reilly- probably the best QB in the league, but the secondary play was the spitting image of what we have been witnessing since Hall's arrival. The first TD of the Esks was a perfect toss to a very good receiver coupled with a stumble by Randle. That was just one play, but there were other plays that a good secondary just doesn't give up all game. The 408 passing yards given up were the same old, same old. Bighill is at least as good as he was supposed to be, our receivers were good and Streveler had a GREAT debut. He's just going to get better and better- a younger, bigger, stronger version of Dunigan.

Why can't it be both?
