  1. The Koch brothers contaminating the Fraser Institute is simply putting icing on the cake. The Fraser Institute has been an echo chamber for the most right-wing conservatives in Canada for decades.
  2. Rumour has it that John Turner is still available.
  3. And for that, we give great thanks.
  4. Top Tory Lawmaker Resigns After ‘Drunkenly Groping 2 Men’ Another day, another disaster for Boris Johnson. Senior Conservative party lawmaker Chris Pincher resigned Thursday after allegedly getting drunk and groping two men at a private members club in London. “Last night I drank far too much,” Pincher wrote to Johnson in his resignation letter. “I’ve embarrassed myself and other people which is the last thing I want to do and for that I apologise to you and to those concerned.” Pincher relinquished his job as Tory deputy chief whip—a figure responsible for party discipline—but is astonishingly set to stay on as a lawmaker, despite howls of protest from the opposition. This is actually the second time Pincher has resigned from the whips’ office; in 2017, he stood down after being accused of making unwanted advances towards a former Olympic rower. News of Pincher’s resignation comes after the Tory chairman resigned last week in the wake of a humiliating double-election defeat for Johnson’s party. https://www.thedailybeast.com/top-tory-lawmaker-chris-pincher-resigns-after-drunkenly-groping-2-men?ref=home
  5. Texas educators propose changing 'slavery' to 'involuntary relocation' to pacify Republicans An advisory group of Texas educators has proposed changing the word “slavery” to “involuntary relocation” after the Texas State Board of Education directed them to examine how to implement a new law, signed by Gov. Greg Abbott, banning the teaching of topics that would make students “feel discomfort.” The group, comprised of nine educators, made the proposal for second-grade social studies instruction, but “board members have asked them to reconsider the phrasing, according to the state board’s chair,” The Texas Tribune reports. State Board of Education Member Aicha Davis told the Tribune, that calling slavery “involuntary relocation” is “not going to be acceptable.” “Part of the proposed social studies curriculum standards outlines that students should ‘compare journeys to America, including voluntary Irish immigration and involuntary relocation of African people during colonial times,'” the Tribune notes. https://www.alternet.org/2022/07/texas-educators-slavery-involuntary-relocation/

  18. Even Russian Army Bosses Shocked by Putin’s ‘******* Imbecile’ Troops Even Russian military leadership was shocked to learn of the mayhem and dysfunction among Vladimir Putin’s troops in occupied eastern Ukraine, according to Ukrainian intelligence. In a five-minute recording shared by the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry on Thursday, a man identified as a fighter in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic can be heard complaining to his wife that “Russians are ******* imbeciles” and revealing that his fellow fighters raped and murdered civilians. No details were provided on when the phone call was said to have taken place, or where exactly in Donetsk the man was based. “Basically, today our guys went to the Russian headquarters,” said the man, who was not identified by name. “They are not aware that there are so few of us here... They all think that we’re professionals, that we’ve been fighting since 2014 and we’re already experts, that we’re badass ******* warriors,” he said. “They raised the question about us not having a rotation, and not having weapons, nothing,” he went on. “Basically, they promised that within three days, some ******* Russian bogeys will come... they promised to change us out, the generals didn’t even know what kind of situation we had here,” he added, complaining that “we are almost down 50 ******* percent.” The fighter recalled an incident where he said a group of Russian troops were sent to back up their fellow Russians, but then both sides “started to shell the **** out of each other, Russians with ******* Russians, they ******* killed each other.” The wife then asked about the fate of an acquaintance, who the man told her was being interrogated along with several others in connection with a string of recent executions. “Lena, he gunned down 75 people, you understand? Both locals and our guys,” he said, going on to recall how two of those shot were fighters who “raped a 55-year-old woman and beat the **** out of her husband” before returning days later to terrorize the pair again and shoot them. “Our guys buried them,” he said. https://news.yahoo.com/even-russian-army-bosses-shocked-160706096.html

  20. There is reason to believe that the roots of this gun mania in the US go waaay back to the time of the American revolution. There is evidence that one of the biggest reason for the rebellion against British rule was that Britain outlawed slavery at that time and since the majority of agricultural and other work was being done by slaves imported for that reason, the loss of those slaves would have been ruinous to the owners. Moreover, the colonials had good reason to believe that the British were not above re-invading the American colonies and bringing them to heel again. So, maintaining an armed populace was a good idea for them. But local militias right after the war of independence were formed specifically to track down, capture and return runaway slaves to their previous owners. Even after the establishment of the Macon-Dixon line, these militias were permitted to pursue the fleeing slaves right into states and territories where slavery was no longer allowed. After civil war, the southern slave states were no longer allowed to have slaves, but it took years for all of the slaves to be freed, and the southerners kept the militias as acts of defiance under the mottos, "The South will rise again"- ie: that these states would regain their independence from America by force one day. The culture of victimhood has persisted to this day and so has the fantasy of rebellion and devotion to firearms.

  23. Tucker Carlson spins new conspiracy theory saying US gov will lace country’s water supply with antidepressants Fox News' Tucker Carlson is attempting to spin a new conspiracy theory with a tall accusation involving the United States government. During his latest segment of "The Tucker Carlson Show" on Tuesday, the conservative primetime host claimed the U.S. government will be lacing the country's water supply with "SSRIs – selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors – in an effort to placate an increasingly dissatisfied population," Mediaite reports. Broadcasting from Rio de Janeiro, Carlson expressed concern about the United States' low fertility rates. On multiple occasions, Carlson has leveled attacks at Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) over her concerns about having children. In fact, last year, the Fox News host reportedly said claimed: "some liberals are 'offended by fertility and nature and the idea that people reproduce.'” During Tuesday's segment, Carlson revisited the same argument but went a step further this time. “The more atomized and unhappy American society becomes, the easier it is for them to control,” said Carlson. “Fewer marriages and babies and family-owned homes means more rootless and dissatisfied people. It means an entire nation of desperately unhappy grad students. Sandy Cortez could become the queen of a country like that.” Carlson went on to highlight the inflated cost of having a family as he insisted that the issue is no longer just a temporary problem, but rather a new staple in American society. https://www.alternet.org/2022/06/tucker-carlson/ “Families are for the tech tycoons in Napa, they’ve got a ton of kids,” he continued. “And for the Haitians huddled underneath the bridges at the border in south Texas, they’ve got a ton of kids too. But for you, a middle-class American, sorry. Your deepest desires are far beyond reach.”
